On a Mac, use Safari’s Responsive Design Mode to preview a site at mobile dimensions, then capture the visible preview with macOS screenshot controls. Web Inspector helps you debug the page, but Apple’s documentation does not describe a screenshot-export command inside Web Inspector.
Capture a mobile-sized Safari preview on Mac

Open the website in Safari on your Mac.

If Safari does not show a Develop menu, enable developer features in Safari settings. Apple places this control under Safari > Settings > Advanced; its exact label can vary between Safari releases. See Apple’s instructions for enabling Web Inspector.

With the target page active, choose Develop > Enter Responsive Design Mode, or press Control-Command-R. Apple documents the mode in its Responsive Design Mode guide.

Select a suggested viewport or set the width and height you need. Responsive Design Mode lets you change viewport dimensions, orientation and pixel ratio.

To examine layout or behavior as you adjust the viewport, choose Develop > Show Web Inspector. Use its tools to inspect page structure, styles, scripts and network activity; it is the debugging step, not the documented image-export step.

Arrange the preview at the size you want, make sure it is unobscured, then use macOS screenshot controls to capture the visible Safari preview. This produces an image of what is currently visible, not automatically a full-page capture.
What Responsive Design Mode does—and does not—simulate
Responsive Design Mode is useful for checking responsive layouts and media queries at different viewport sizes. A preset is not an exact substitute for a physical device. Apple notes that features such as the address bar, on-screen keyboard and device-specific form controls can affect how a page looks or behaves. Its documentation says viewport presets offer a “good approximation,” but do not represent the exact layout, rendering and behavior on an actual device.
For more accurate simulated-device behavior, choose Open with Simulator from Responsive Design Mode, if Simulator is installed. Capture the visible Simulator window using macOS screenshot controls.

Inspect a real iPhone or iPad from the Mac

On the iPhone or iPad, open Settings > Apps > Safari > Advanced and enable Web Inspector.

Connect the device to the Mac and respond to any trust prompt. In Safari on the Mac, open the device and its page from the Develop menu.

Use Web Inspector on the Mac to inspect the live page. Apple says that after the initial cable connection, you can enable Connect via Network from the device submenu for network connections.

Capture the device screen using the iPhone or iPad’s screenshot workflow. Remote Web Inspector provides inspection; it does not turn the Mac’s inspector into a documented screenshot-export tool.

Capture an entire webpage on iPhone
If the goal is a full-page image rather than a mobile-sized preview from the Mac, take a screenshot on the iPhone while viewing the Safari page. In the screenshot preview, select Full Page to capture content beyond the visible screen, including the webpage. This is a native iPhone screenshot workflow, separate from Web Inspector; see Apple’s screenshot instructions.

The capture-scope descriptions for the Mac and Simulator workflows refer to capturing the visible preview with system screenshot controls; Apple’s cited developer documentation does not specify an export control in Web Inspector.

Develop is missing: Enable Safari’s developer features in Safari > Settings > Advanced. Labels may differ slightly across Safari versions.

Responsive Design Mode is not opening: Focus the target page first, then use Develop > Enter Responsive Design Mode or Control-Command-R.

The preview differs from the iPhone: Presets approximate device behavior. Try Open with Simulator or inspect the page on a real device when browser chrome, keyboard or device-specific controls matter.

You cannot find a screenshot button in Web Inspector: Apple’s documentation describes inspection and responsive preview, not a Web Inspector screenshot-export command. Capture the visible preview with macOS screenshot controls, or use the device’s screenshot flow.

The Mac cannot inspect the iPhone page: Check that Web Inspector is enabled in the iPhone’s Safari advanced settings, reconnect the device, and accept the trust prompt if shown. For network inspection, first establish the wired connection and enable Connect via Network from the device submenu.
