To capture a whole webpage with ApiFlash in Python, send a request to https://api.apiflash.com/v1/urltoimage with your access key, a complete target URL, and full_page=true, then save the returned bytes to a file opened in binary mode. ApiFlash returns image data by default.
How can I make a full page screenshot?
ApiFlash’s Screenshot API Documentation says to set full_page to true to capture the entire target page. The endpoint accepts GET query parameters or POST form data; the example below uses GET and Python’s standard library.

- Get the access key from your ApiFlash dashboard and replace
YOUR_ACCESS_KEY. Keep the key private; do not commit it to source control or expose it in client-side code. - Replace the sample URL with a complete target URL beginning with
http://orhttps://. - Run the script. It writes the response body to
screenshot.jpeg.
This example follows the documented endpoint, parameters, and default binary response. It has not been independently executed here. For production code, catch network and HTTP errors and avoid logging the full request URL because it contains the access key.

Full-page size and lazy-loaded content
full_page defaults to false. Set it explicitly to true for the whole page; in that mode ApiFlash ignores the height parameter. If content is loaded only as the page scrolls, consider scroll_page=true to trigger lazy-loaded elements or animations before capture. ApiFlash’s FAQ also describes this behavior.

Image format or JSON
Image bytes are the default response. The documented formats are JPEG (the default), PNG, and WebP. To change format, pass the API’s format parameter; for JPEG or WebP, quality can also be specified. If you need JSON metadata or links rather than a raw image response, set response_type=json and handle the resulting JSON instead of writing the response body as though it were an image.
Wait for the page to be ready
ApiFlash defaults to waiting for network_idle. For pages whose important content appears later, the documentation recommends using wait_for or wait_until rather than relying on an arbitrary delay. wait_for can target a CSS selector, but the capture aborts with an error if the selector does not appear within 15 seconds.

Cache and viewport controls
Optional controls include viewport width, fresh=true to bypass a cached screenshot, and ttl to set cache duration. Use a cache bypass when you need a current capture rather than a reusable cached result. With full-page capture, changing viewport width may still affect responsive layout, even though height is ignored.

Troubleshooting ApiFlash requests
ApiFlash documents distinct HTTP statuses for common request failures. Check the response status and body before treating a response as an image.

Blank, incomplete, or stale-looking captures
- If page content is missing because it loads after the default readiness condition, wait for a relevant selector or use a suitable
wait_untilcondition. - If images or sections load only on scroll, try
scroll_page=true. - If the image appears older than expected, bypass the cache with
fresh=true. - If you set
response_type=json, parse JSON; do not save that response as a JPEG or PNG.
Performance, reliability, and quota considerations
ApiFlash documents a leaky-bucket rate limit of 20 requests per second with a burst size of 400. Excess requests may be delayed, while requests beyond the burst can be terminated with HTTP 429. The API documentation also says identical failed capture attempts are separately rate limited to five per hour. Spread large batches over time, limit concurrent workers, and use backoff for throttling rather than retrying in a tight loop.

According to ApiFlash’s FAQ, cached screenshots and failed captures do not count toward the monthly quota. Successful responses may include quota headers, and the documentation describes a quota endpoint for checking usage. Confirm current quota and plan terms on ApiFlash’s own site before relying on a specific allowance or price; the plan figures published on its homepage can change.
