If the page says “Turn on recurring billing” and shows an expiry date, renewal is already off and no further action is needed to prevent an automatic charge after that date.
Cancel Game Pass billed directly by Microsoft
- Go to Microsoft’s Services & subscriptions page and sign in with the Microsoft account used to buy Game Pass.
- Find the Game Pass subscription and select Manage.
- Follow the displayed option to cancel the subscription or turn off recurring billing, and complete the confirmation step. The exact prompts can vary by account and subscription status.
- Return to the subscription entry and check its status. If it now shows “Turn on recurring billing” with an expiry date, Microsoft says recurring billing is off and the subscription will not automatically renew after that date.
If you cannot find Game Pass or cancel it
Check the account and billing provider
Make sure you are signed in to the Microsoft account that purchased the subscription. If you bought Game Pass through Apple’s App Store or Google Play, cancellation is handled through that store’s support process rather than the Microsoft subscription page. Resolve an overdue payment
An outstanding payment can leave a subscription suspended and may prevent cancellation until the overdue amount is addressed. Microsoft’s Xbox cancellation video describes this issue, though it was published in 2020; check the current account page or Microsoft Support for the steps that apply to your account.

Turning off recurring billing prevents the next automatic renewal; it does not by itself mean that you have received a refund. The account page’s expiry date indicates when the subscription term ends. If you want money returned for a recent charge, check Microsoft’s subscription refund policy separately: it says the most recent recurring billing charge may be refundable if you cancel within 30 days after payment, subject to the policy’s terms. Refunds are not guaranteed, and eligibility may depend on the applicable policy and account.
