To stop future charges, cancel the subscription with the company that bills it—not necessarily the streaming service whose shows you watch. Find the biller in the service’s account settings, receipt, or bank statement, complete that company’s cancellation flow before renewal, and save the confirmation and expiration date. Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription.
Find out who bills the subscription
Start on the streaming service’s account page and look under labels such as Subscription, Billing, or Payment Information. The account may name a billing provider. If it does not, search your email for a purchase receipt and check the card or bank statement for the charge descriptor.

The billing company may be Apple, Roku, a mobile or TV provider, a bundle partner, or the streaming service itself. HBO Max directs customers to check its subscription page or statement to identify the biller; it also suggests asking an internet, mobile, or TV provider if needed. Apple says that if a subscription does not appear in the Apple account, it may have been purchased from another company, which is the company to contact. Hulu likewise says third-party-billed subscriptions must be managed through the partner; its Payment Information section identifies the billing party.
- Apple receipt: Check which Apple Account appears on the receipt. If there is no Apple receipt, use the statement to identify the actual biller.
- Unclear or unfamiliar statement descriptor: Search the service account and billing history before assuming the charge is unrelated. Roku charges, for example, may appear as “Roku,” “Roku for ___,” or “The Roku Channel,” and may use a parent-company name.
- Bundle or provider billing: Check with the bundle, mobile, internet, or TV provider. That partner may control cancellation even when you watch through the streaming service’s app.
Cancel through the billing company
Once you know who bills you, use that company’s account or cancellation instructions. The examples below reflect official guidance available in September 2026; menus and available routes can differ by country, device, bundle, and billing arrangement.

Apple-billed subscription
- On an iPhone, open Settings → your name → Subscriptions.
- Select the streaming subscription and tap Cancel Subscription.
- Complete any confirmation prompt. Apple says that if there is no Cancel button or a red expiration notice appears, the subscription is already canceled.
Apple provides separate instructions for other devices and the web on its subscription cancellation page.
Roku-managed subscription
On the web, go to my.roku.com/subscriptions, select the active subscription, choose Manage subscription, then Turn off auto-renew. On a Roku device, highlight the app, press the Star button, choose Manage subscription, then Turn off auto-renew.

If Roku does not offer a cancellation control, the service provider may manage the subscription. Roku specifically directs customers with Disney+, Hulu, or Sling TV subscriptions processed through Roku to contact the service provider to cancel.
HBO Max or another streaming service
First check the service’s subscription page to identify the biller. HBO Max direct subscribers cancel through the HBO Max subscription page; customers billed by Apple, Google Play, Samsung, or an internet, mobile, or TV provider must use that biller’s cancellation route. Its cancellation instructions explain the provider-specific steps and advise confirming cancellation and noting the expiration date.

Cancel before renewal and keep proof
Finish the cancellation before the next billing date. Trials have their own deadlines: Roku says to cancel before the trial ends to avoid recurring charges, and Apple says trial subscriptions must be canceled at least 24 hours before the trial ends. Do not wait until the last minute; follow the deadline shown by the biller for your account.
Save the confirmation email or take a screenshot of the cancellation status, and note the expiration date shown in the account. These details help establish when you canceled and whether a later charge falls within a period that was already paid for.

Know what happens to access after cancellation
Turning off renewal does not necessarily end access immediately. Roku and HBO Max say customers can continue streaming until the current paid billing period expires. Use the expiration date and terms shown for your account as the guide.

If you cannot find the subscription or a charge appears later
The subscription is missing from the account
- Check receipts for another Apple Account or a different email address, and ask a family member if the subscription may have been purchased through their account.
- Check other devices, app-store accounts, household accounts, bundles, and provider accounts. Roku advises customers to look for multiple Roku devices or accounts and purchases made by other household members.
- Use the statement descriptor and receipt to identify the biller. If Apple has no matching receipt, Apple advises contacting the company that charged you.
You see a charge after canceling
- Compare the charge date with the renewal date and the cancellation expiration date shown in your account.
- Identify the merchant from the statement and check the relevant account’s subscription or billing history. A descriptor may name a billing platform or parent company rather than the familiar streaming brand.
- Contact the company that bills the subscription and provide your cancellation confirmation and the charge details. If Roku processed a Disney+, Hulu, or Sling TV charge, Roku directs customers to contact the service provider for help.
The available provider guidance does not establish a universal refund entitlement or a standard time to resolve a disputed charge. Ask the biller what applies to your account.
