For a Nintendo eShop digital pre-order, cancel it from the Nintendo Account that placed the order: on your console open Nintendo eShop > Account Information > Your Pre-Orders, choose the game, and select Cancel. You can also sign in at accounts.nintendo.com, open Purchase History > View pre-orders, and cancel there. Nintendo’s self-service window ends when payment is processed and the non-playable pre-load starts, which is no later than seven days before release.
Canceling before that point normally prevents the bonus code from being issued. Nintendo does not publish a universal rule saying that a canceled order keeps eligibility for a title-specific bonus. Check the promotion’s terms and the selling channel before canceling, and contact Nintendo Support or the retailer first if the bonus is important.

What the cancellation rules mean
Nintendo separates a digital eShop pre-order into two stages. Until Nintendo processes payment, the order is still eligible for self-service cancellation. Once payment succeeds, the game begins its pre-load and any qualifying bonus code is issued. Nintendo says payment is processed no sooner than seven days before the release date, so that is the practical latest point for a normal eShop cancellation.

Before you cancel: identify the order and the bonus
Confirm which account placed the order
The pre-order belongs to the Nintendo Account used at checkout. A different profile on the same Switch console may not show it. If you cannot find the order, switch to the purchasing account before assuming that the pre-order disappeared.
On the Nintendo Account website, use the same sign-in credentials used for the purchase. Check the purchase history for the game title, edition, region, and release date. Keep the receipt email available; it can help support staff distinguish multiple orders for the same game.
Read the promotion’s actual conditions
“Pre-order bonus” can mean different things: a digital download code, an in-game item delivered to the purchasing account, a physical insert, or an item available only while supplies last. The qualifying action may be an un-canceled pre-order, payment by a stated date, purchase of a particular edition, or redemption in a particular country.

How to cancel a Nintendo eShop digital pre-order
Cancel on a Nintendo Switch console
- Open Nintendo eShop from the HOME Menu.
- Select the Nintendo Account that made the pre-order if the console asks you to choose a user.
- Choose your profile icon in the upper-right corner to open Account Information.
- Select Your Pre-Orders. Review the listed title, edition, and release date.
- Open the game’s pre-order details and choose Cancel.
- Read the confirmation screen carefully, then confirm the cancellation.
- Return to Your Pre-Orders or your purchase history and verify that the order no longer appears as an active pre-order. Keep the confirmation email or a screenshot for your records.
The order should remain available in purchase history as a past transaction record, but it should not be listed as an active pre-order. Removing the game icon from the HOME Menu is not a cancellation; use the account procedure above.
Cancel on the Nintendo Account website
- Sign in to accounts.nintendo.com with the account that placed the order.
- Open Purchase History.
- Select View pre-orders.
- Choose the game and review the order details, release date, and edition.
- Select Cancel, then confirm.
- Check the updated pre-order list and retain the confirmation message.
If the website and console show different information, do not place a second order immediately. Sign out and back in on both devices, verify the account email, and check whether payment has already been processed. A pending bank authorization is not by itself proof that the order completed; the Nintendo Account status is the relevant record.

When the Cancel button is missing
- Payment has been processed or pre-load has started: the normal self-service window has passed. Do not assume that deleting the software reverses the purchase. Contact Nintendo Support and ask what options are available for that order.
- Wrong account: sign in with the account that received the original receipt. Family-group membership does not move ownership of a pre-order between accounts.
- Order was already canceled: look in purchase history and in your email for a cancellation notice before attempting another action.
- Temporary service problem: retry later, preferably from the other method (console or website), and retain screenshots showing the date and time.
- Release date changed: check the updated date in the listing and account. The processing window follows Nintendo’s current release schedule, not the date in an old email or retailer advertisement.
What cancellation does to a pre-order bonus
When Nintendo issues a digital bonus code
For a title that includes bonus content, Nintendo says the bonus download code becomes available only after payment is processed and the game has been pre-loaded. The code appears on the emailed receipt and in the purchase history on the Nintendo Account website.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTherefore, a cancellation made before processing normally means there is no code to retain: the documented issuance event has not happened. If you already received a code, do not assume it remains valid after canceling. Nintendo’s general cancellation pages do not promise that a canceled order preserves eligibility, and they do not publish a universal bonus-retention percentage, refund amount, or exception.
Three practical timing scenarios
| Situation | What you can verify | Safest action if the bonus matters |
|---|---|---|
| You cancel before payment and pre-load | The order should disappear from active pre-orders; no Nintendo bonus code has been issued under the general rule | Read the game’s promotion terms and ask Nintendo Support or the retailer whether a new qualifying purchase is required |
| Payment succeeded, pre-load started, and a code is in your receipt or history | The code has been issued, but the general guidance does not say that cancellation preserves its validity | Do not redeem or discard the code until support confirms how the promotion treats cancellation |
| The bonus was a physical insert or retailer-specific item | Nintendo’s eShop code rule may not apply at all | Follow the seller’s promotion and return instructions for the exact edition and region |
How to ask support a useful question
Give support the order number, Nintendo Account email, game title and edition, region, release date, the promotion’s name, and the reason you want to cancel. Ask two separate questions: whether the order can still be canceled or refunded, and whether canceling changes eligibility for the named bonus. Request the answer in writing when possible. This avoids receiving a generic answer about refunds that does not address the promotion.
Physical Nintendo Store pre-purchases
A physical Nintendo Store order is not managed through Your Pre-Orders in Nintendo eShop. Nintendo’s physical-order guidance says these items are charged immediately and directs customers to Nintendo Store order management or support for cancellation.
Open the order-management page from the confirmation email or the Nintendo Store account, select the relevant order, and look for the available cancellation action. If no action is offered, contact the store’s support channel promptly with the order number. Because payment is taken immediately, the eShop’s pre-release self-service window does not describe this transaction.

Check whether the physical bonus is supplied in the box, sent separately by email, or limited by inventory. A return authorization may be different from a pre-shipment cancellation, and a bonus that has already shipped may have separate handling instructions. Do not rely on an eShop code rule for a boxed product.

Orders from a third-party retailer
Nintendo’s eShop rules do not control an order placed with another retailer. That seller determines when your card is charged, how long cancellation remains available, whether a preorder authorization is released, and whether a bonus is tied to an un-canceled order.
Use the retailer’s order page rather than Nintendo eShop. Verify the country, currency, edition, platform, and fulfillment method; two listings for the same game can have different bonus conditions. Read the retailer’s cancellation and return deadline, then contact its support team before canceling if the bonus is the deciding factor.
If Nintendo Account purchase history contains no record, that is expected for a third-party order. Conversely, a Nintendo eShop order will not appear in the retailer’s system merely because the retailer sells the same game. Keep the retailer’s confirmation number separate from any Nintendo order number.
Why Nintendo might cancel a pre-order automatically
Nintendo lists several reasons an eShop pre-order can be canceled without you selecting Cancel:
- Insufficient funds in the eShop balance.
- An expired, unusable, or declined card or PayPal account.
- A Game Voucher that is unavailable or no longer eligible for that purchase.
- Problems with account or tax information.
- A change to the game’s age rating that makes the account or payment method ineligible.
- A server error during processing.
Check the account email and purchase history for the specific reason. If the game has not been released, Nintendo says you can place a new pre-order. Before doing so, correct the payment, account, or eligibility issue and confirm that the desired edition and promotion are still available. A replacement order may have different bonus terms or a different price, so reread the listing before confirming.

- Confirm that the original order is canceled, rather than merely hidden by a different account view.
- Verify that the game is still unreleased and that the same edition is available.
- Review the current promotion terms; a new order may not qualify for a limited-time offer that applied to the first order.
- Check the payment method and account information that caused any automatic cancellation.
- Place the new order only after deciding whether the bonus or the cancellation flexibility is more important.
- Save the new receipt and note the new order’s processing window.
Do not confuse a pre-order bonus with My Nintendo Gold Points
My Nintendo Gold Points are a separate rewards program. They are not the same as a game’s pre-order bonus code, costume, weapon, soundtrack, or physical item. My Nintendo reported that digital pre-orders made after 9:30 p.m. PDT on March 24, 2025 no longer earn Gold Points. That program rule can affect a purchase even when the game’s own promotion offers a separate bonus.

When evaluating a cancellation, treat these as separate questions: “Will I receive the title-specific promotion?” and “Will this purchase earn Gold Points?” The answer to one does not establish the answer to the other.
A decision checklist before you select Cancel
- Is the order a Nintendo eShop digital pre-order, a Nintendo Store physical purchase, or a third-party retailer order?
- Am I signed in to the account that actually placed the order?
- Has Nintendo or the seller already processed payment?
- Has a digital pre-load started?
- Has a bonus code, physical insert, or redemption email already been delivered?
- Do the promotion terms require an un-canceled qualifying purchase?
- Am I in the same country or region covered by the promotion?
- Do I have the order number, receipt, and screenshots needed for support?
- Am I asking separately about the title-specific bonus and Gold Points?
If the answer to the bonus questions is unclear, pause before canceling and contact the party that sold the game. Once the qualifying purchase is canceled, a support representative may be the only source able to interpret the promotion for that specific title and region.
Common mistakes and their fixes
Deleting the game instead of canceling the order
Removing a pre-load or deleting an icon changes local storage, not the purchase status. Use the pre-order controls in Account Information or Purchase History.
Canceling from a family member’s profile
Profiles on one console do not share ownership of every purchase. Switch to the purchasing Nintendo Account before searching for the order.
Assuming every “bonus” is a Nintendo download code
A retailer may supply a physical item, an email code, or an in-game entitlement. Identify the delivery method and the promotion owner before applying Nintendo’s general code timing to it.
Expecting a refund figure that Nintendo has not stated
The cited cancellation guidance does not establish a universal refund amount or timing for every payment method and region. Ask support about the specific transaction instead of relying on a general estimate.
Placing a replacement order before confirming cancellation
Two active orders can create duplicate charges or conflicting bonus claims. Verify the original status first, then place a new order only if the game remains unreleased and the promotion still applies.
