You can buy a Rakuten Group corporate bond through Rakuten Securities only when a qualifying issue is listed for sale. First open and fund a Rakuten Securities comprehensive account, then use the PC site’s 注文 (Orders) > 国内債券 (Domestic Bonds) > 買い (Buy) path, read the issue documents, enter your amount, and submit the order with your trading PIN. The procedure is established; whether a Rakuten Group issue is available, and its coupon, maturity, price, minimum denomination and application dates, must be checked in the live inventory and issue documents.
What you need before you can place an order
Rakuten Securities’ domestic-bond instructions state that you must have a Rakuten Securities comprehensive account before trading domestic bonds. A bank account or another Rakuten service account is not a substitute for that securities account. Account approval, identity verification and any required tax-account selections must be complete before the domestic-bond order screen can be used.

The account-start instructions also require you to deposit funds before purchasing and to consent to electronic delivery of documents. Keep enough cash available for the full purchase consideration shown on the order screen. The amount can differ from the face value you initially calculate, particularly for an already-issued bond where the quoted price and accrued interest apply.
- Rakuten Securities comprehensive account: required for domestic-bond trading.
- Approved login credentials: use the PC trading site for the documented order route.
- Available cash: deposit before ordering; do not assume a later transfer will preserve the issue or price.
- Electronic-delivery consent: required for the account-start process and delivery of sales materials.
- Trading PIN: required at confirmation.
If you are still opening the account, treat the process as a prerequisite rather than an application for a particular bond. Opening an account does not reserve a Rakuten Group issue and does not establish that one is currently being offered.
#1 Best Overall
Is a Rakuten Group corporate bond available now?
The general order instructions do not establish that a Rakuten Group bond is open for purchase today. Availability changes as offerings open, close, settle or leave the secondary inventory. Before deciding how much to invest, check Rakuten Securities’ current 国内債券 inventory and open the sales materials for the exact issue.
Cross-check the issuer’s investor-relations pages under Stocks and Bonds and Rating and Bond Information. Those pages can help you confirm the issuer name, announced terms and ratings, but the broker’s live inventory and the issue-specific prospectus control what you can actually order through the account. If no Rakuten Group issue appears in the inventory, you cannot place an order for it through this workflow at that time.
Do not infer availability from an old announcement, a search result, or a previously completed offering. A bond may be visible in investor-relations material while its application period has ended, or it may appear as an existing-bond listing with different pricing and settlement terms.

When you open the bond list, determine whether the entry is a primary offering (新発債券) or an existing/secondary bond (既発債券). The distinction changes the dates and the price information you must evaluate.
| Item | Primary offering | Existing-bond listing |
|---|---|---|
| How terms are set | Issuer terms are published for the offering; applications are accepted during a stated period. | The bond is already outstanding and is quoted for purchase at the broker’s displayed price. |
| Price and interest | Review the stated issue price and any conditions in the prospectus. | Review the live purchase price and any accrued interest payable with the bond. |
| Timing | Application deadline and settlement date are specific to the offering. | Execution and settlement follow the displayed listing terms. |
| Availability risk | The offering can close when the application period or allocation ends. | Inventory and quoted price can change while you are deciding. |
Use the issue documents—not a generic description of Rakuten Group debt—as the controlling source for denomination, coupon, maturity, redemption provisions, taxes and settlement.
Step-by-step: place a Rakuten corporate-bond order
Once an eligible issue is visible and your account is funded, follow this sequence on the Rakuten Securities PC site.
Rank #2
- Sign in to the PC site. Use your approved Rakuten Securities credentials. The documented domestic-bond route is provided for the PC site; do not assume that a mobile view exposes every bond function.
- Open the order menu. Select 注文 (Orders), then 国内債券 (Domestic Bonds), and choose 買い (Buy).
- Select the exact issue. Match the issuer, bond name or number, currency, maturity and offering status against the issue document. If several issues are listed, do not choose solely by coupon.
- Open and acknowledge the sales materials. Read the prospectus, sales proposal and other required documents shown for that issue. The order cannot be completed until the required acknowledgements are recorded.
- Choose how to specify the order. Enter either the number of units or a budget, according to the fields presented for the issue. Check the denomination before entering a budget; a budget is converted into a quantity using the issue’s terms and displayed price.
- Review the calculated quantity and purchase amount. Confirm the system’s quantity, face value, purchase consideration, price, accrued interest (if displayed), fees or charges shown on screen, and available cash. Correct any mismatch before continuing.
- Select the account designation. Choose the account in which the bond will be held, such as the applicable taxable or tax-advantaged designation offered for that issue. The available choices and tax treatment are issue- and account-specific.
- Enter your trading PIN. This is a separate transaction credential used to authorize the order.
- Confirm the order details. Recheck issuer, issue, quantity, price or budget, settlement information, account designation and document acknowledgements. Submit only after the final screen matches your intended purchase.
- Verify the submission. Open 注文照会・取消 (Order Inquiry/Cancellation) and confirm that the order appears with the expected status. Save or download the confirmation and the issue documents for your records.
Rakuten Securities states that domestic-bond orders accepted by 14:30 on a business day are executed that day. An order submitted after that time, on a non-business day, or after an offering closes follows the timing shown for the issue and may be handled on the next applicable business day. The 14:30 statement is an execution cutoff, not a guarantee that a bond will remain available or that its displayed terms will not change.
What to verify in the issue documents
Read the documents for the specific bond before deciding on an amount. Record the following fields in a comparison sheet if more than one issue is available:
| Field | Why it matters | Where to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Issuer and guarantor | Identifies whose credit supports principal and interest and whether any guarantee applies. | Prospectus, sales materials and issuer information. |
| Currency | A non-yen issue adds foreign-exchange exposure when your spending currency is yen. | Issue terms and account order screen. |
| Maturity date | Shows when scheduled principal repayment is due and how long funds may be committed. | Issue terms. |
| Coupon rate and payment schedule | States the contractual interest rate and payment dates; it is not the same as your return if you buy above or below par. | Prospectus and sales materials. |
| Yield to maturity or purchase yield | Incorporates price and cash-flow timing more fully than the coupon alone. | Broker quotation and issue documents, where provided. |
| Purchase price and accrued interest | Determines the cash required for an existing bond and affects your effective return. | Live quote and confirmation screen. |
| Minimum denomination | Sets the smallest order and the increments in which you can buy. | Issue terms and order-entry fields. |
| Call, put or other redemption terms | Allows repayment before the stated maturity in circumstances defined by the documents, changing expected cash flows. | Prospectus and final terms. |
| Application and settlement dates | Tell you when an order is accepted and when cash and the bond are exchanged. | Offering schedule or listing details. |
| Liquidity and cancellation rules | Explain whether you can sell readily and whether an unfilled order can be cancelled. | Broker’s sales materials and order screen. |
| Tax treatment | Interest, gains and losses can be treated differently by account type and jurisdiction. | Broker disclosures and the issue documents; obtain tax advice for your circumstances. |
Compare coupon with yield to maturity rather than treating the highest coupon as the best offer. A high coupon can accompany a higher price, longer maturity, a call feature or greater credit risk. For a secondary purchase, accrued interest can increase the initial cash outlay even though it is part of the transaction mechanics, not an extra coupon.
How much money is required?
The minimum investment is not a universal Rakuten Group figure. It is set by each bond’s minimum denomination and order increment. Entering a budget on the order screen does not override those limits; the system calculates an allowable quantity and shows the resulting purchase amount.
For a primary issue, budget for the stated issue price multiplied by the denomination, plus any amount the documents require at settlement. For an existing bond, budget for the quoted price, the denomination and any accrued interest displayed by Rakuten Securities. Keep additional cash available until the order is settled because the final amount and timing are issue-specific.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDo not use an old denomination, coupon or minimum from another Rakuten Group offering. The absence of a current issue-specific figure means no reliable minimum can be stated until you open the live listing and its documents.
Fees, prices and the cost that “no commission” does not remove
Rakuten Securities says domestic bonds bought through its negotiated transaction require payment of the purchase consideration and do not carry a brokerage commission. That statement does not make the investment costless. The purchase consideration reflects the quoted price, and an existing bond can include accrued interest. Taxes and the economic effect of buying at a premium or discount still affect your result.
- Quoted price: buying above or below face value changes the amount you pay and the return implied by the cash flows.
- Accrued interest: an existing-bond transaction may require payment of interest accrued since the last coupon date, as shown in the quote or documents.
- Taxes: treatment depends on the security, account designation and applicable rules; use the broker’s disclosures and qualified tax advice.
- Market movement: the price can change before you submit or if you later try to sell.
- Currency conversion: a bond denominated in another currency can produce gains or losses from exchange-rate changes in addition to bond performance.
Read the confirmation screen for every amount Rakuten Securities will debit. “No brokerage commission” should not be read as a promise of a fixed spread, a guaranteed yield or a guaranteed sale price.
Risk: why a corporate bond is not a bank deposit
A Rakuten Group corporate bond exposes you to the issuer’s ability to pay. The official risk disclosure identifies two central risks: bond prices can move when market interest rates change, and issuer insolvency can delay or prevent principal and interest payments.
Interest-rate and price risk
If market rates rise after you buy, an existing fixed-rate bond will generally become less attractive relative to new bonds, so its market price can fall. Selling before maturity can therefore produce a loss even when the issuer has continued paying coupons. Holding to maturity does not remove all risk, but it changes the relevant question to whether the issuer can make the scheduled payments and whether any call or redemption term changes the cash flow.
Issuer credit risk
A corporate issuer can experience financial distress. Insolvency or a restructuring can delay, reduce or prevent interest and principal payments. Review the issuer’s current rating information and the risk factors in the prospectus; a rating is an assessment, not a guarantee.
Liquidity, call and currency risk
An existing listing may not be continuously liquid at a price you consider acceptable. A callable bond can be redeemed before maturity, ending the stated coupon stream and forcing reinvestment. A foreign-currency bond adds exchange-rate risk. These features belong in your decision before you submit, not after the order appears in Order Inquiry.

How to compare two or more available issues
If Rakuten Securities lists multiple corporate bonds, compare them on a consistent basis rather than sorting by coupon. The following framework keeps the trade-offs visible:
Recommended Free Tools
- Credit quality: compare issuer ratings, outlook information and the legal obligations described in each prospectus.
- Time commitment: compare maturity and any call or put dates with when you may need the money.
- Return measure: compare yield to maturity or the applicable yield using the purchase price, not coupon alone.
- Cash requirement: include denomination, quoted price and accrued interest for existing bonds.
- Currency exposure: decide whether exchange-rate gains and losses are acceptable for your objective.
- Offering type: distinguish a primary application from a secondary purchase, including different deadlines and settlement mechanics.
- Liquidity: consider whether a practical exit is likely before maturity and at what price.
- Tax and account designation: confirm which account can hold the issue and how interest and gains are treated.
Use the issue-specific prospectus and sales materials as the final authority when a general listing and a detailed document appear to differ.
Troubleshooting common order problems
The domestic-bond menu is missing
Confirm that you are signed in to the Rakuten Securities PC site, that the comprehensive account has been approved, and that domestic-bond trading has been enabled for the account. If approval or required electronic-delivery consent is incomplete, finish that setup before expecting the order path to appear.
The bond cannot be selected
The issue may have closed, reached its allocation limit, left the inventory, or be unavailable for your account designation. Recheck the live domestic-bond list and the application period instead of relying on a saved page or an old announcement.
The calculated amount is higher than expected
For an existing bond, inspect the quoted price and accrued interest. Also verify the denomination and quantity: entering units rather than a yen budget can produce a larger face value than intended. Return to the issue documents and confirmation screen before submitting.
The order does not show as executed
Open 注文照会・取消 (Order Inquiry/Cancellation) and read the status. The 14:30 same-business-day execution statement applies to orders accepted by that cutoff; orders submitted later or on non-business days may follow the next applicable schedule. An order appearing in inquiry is not the same as settlement being complete.
Best Value
You need to change or cancel the order
Use the cancellation function available in 注文照会・取消 and follow the status and issue rules. A submitted order may not be cancellable after execution or once the offering’s cutoff has passed. Do not place a second order until you know whether the first one remains active.
The order screen requests a document acknowledgement
Open each required sales document or prospectus, read it, and record the acknowledgement requested by the screen. This is a substantive step: the documents contain the issue’s risks, dates, redemption terms and other conditions that are not established by the generic order menu.
Record-keeping after purchase
Save the order confirmation, prospectus, sales proposal, final terms, settlement notice and any later statements. Note the purchase date, quantity, price, accrued interest, account designation, maturity, coupon dates and redemption provisions. These records make it easier to calculate your cost basis, monitor payments and decide whether a later sale is acceptable.
Continue checking issuer announcements and your Rakuten Securities statements. A bond’s credit profile, rating, market price and liquidity can change after purchase. If your circumstances change, review the consequences of selling before maturity rather than assuming the original coupon guarantees the outcome.
Bottom line for a prospective buyer
The reliable path is account first, funding second, live-issue verification third, and order entry last. Open a Rakuten Securities comprehensive account, consent to electronic delivery and deposit funds. On the PC site choose 注文 > 国内債券 > 買い, select a currently available issue, read and acknowledge every required document, enter units or a budget, verify the calculated amount and account designation, authorize with your trading PIN, and confirm the result in 注文照会・取消. A Rakuten Group bond is not assumed to be available merely because the issuer has issued bonds before; only the current inventory and issue documents establish what you can buy and on what terms.
