Choose what each screenshot should show
Decide on the capture scope before running a batch. Mixing scopes or viewport settings makes comparisons harder to interpret.

- Viewport: captures the visible page area at a chosen browser size. Use it to compare what a shopper sees before scrolling.
- Full page: captures the full scrollable page as one image, which is useful for reviewing long product descriptions and page structure.
- Element: captures a selected element, such as a product gallery or purchase panel, when that component is the focus.

Keep one product-page URL per line in a text file named urls.txt. Remove duplicates and use the exact URLs you want to compare, including any variant or region parameters that are relevant to the page. For each page, retain a stable identifier—such as store and product slug—along with the capture date. This makes files easier to find and prevents retries from overwriting unrelated images.

Plan to record failures as well as successful captures. A page can fail to load, show a challenge, or render incomplete content; silently omitting it can make a collection look complete when it is not.
Run a local batch with Playwright
Install Playwright and its Chromium browser in a Node.js project:

npx playwright install chromiumSave the following as capture.mjs beside urls.txt. It opens each URL in a fresh page, waits for the page’s load event, and writes one full-page PNG per URL. It creates a readable filename from each URL and writes a CSV manifest with the original URL and any error. The loop is your batch runner; Playwright’s cited screenshot documentation describes the capture operation, not a built-in URL-list batch feature.

To capture an element, locate it with Playwright’s locator API and call screenshot on that locator; do not combine that element capture with full-page mode. Choose output format and pixel scale
Playwright documents PNG, JPEG, and WebP. The screenshot filename extension can determine the output format; PNG is the documented default when no extension determines one. Choose explicit extensions to keep a batch consistent. CSS scale sizes output according to CSS pixels; device scale uses the device pixel ratio and can produce larger images. Check that the chosen viewport and scale preserve the details you need to compare.
Choose a readiness condition carefully
The example waits for the page’s load event, but that does not prove every product image, variant, or late-rendered element is ready. For a particular store, inspect representative output and select a consistent readiness condition—such as waiting for a known selector or a deliberate delay—if the page needs more time. Record the condition and viewport so later captures use the same approach.

Handle consent prompts, variants, and incomplete pages
Store behavior is site-specific. No general compatibility claim can establish how a particular Indian D2C store handles consent dialogs, lazy-loaded images, region-specific content, access controls, or automated browsing. Test the URLs you intend to collect and inspect samples for open overlays, missing images, the wrong variant, or content that has not finished rendering.

- Choose whether to capture a page before or after dismissing a consent prompt, and apply that choice consistently.
- If a product has selectable variants, use a URL or browser interaction that selects the intended variant; do not assume every store encodes variants the same way.
- Keep the manifest and check it after the run. Investigate errors rather than treating missing files as successful captures.
- Before automating access, check the applicable store rules and any access restrictions. These vary by site.
Make visual comparisons reproducible
Keep the capture environment stable when comparing images over time. Playwright notes that operating system, browser version, browser settings, hardware, power source, and headless mode can affect rendering. A pixel difference may therefore reflect an environment change as well as a product-page change. Playwright’s snapshot guidance discusses these sources of rendering variation.
For reliable comparisons, retain the browser version, viewport, capture scope, pixel scale, and readiness condition alongside the images. If any of those changes, treat it as a possible source of visual differences.

When a hosted capture service is a better fit
Local Playwright gives you control over the browser and the batch loop, but requires you to maintain the runtime, handle outputs, and decide how to interact with each page. A hosted service can move the capture request to an API instead.
