In Hootsuite’s current Social OS interface, open Plan and use the calendar to schedule posts, save drafts, and spot gaps in your publishing schedule. Week view is best for placing individual posts into time slots; month view helps you review the overall distribution.
Open the calendar and choose a view
In the current Social OS experience, select Plan to open the content calendar. Choose week view when you want to schedule a post at a specific time. Switch to month view to assess how posts are spread across the month and select a date to inspect its content. These instructions apply to the current Social OS navigation, not the separately documented Classic experience. Hootsuite’s calendar guide and calendar management guide describe these views.

Create and schedule a post
- Choose a time slot. In week view, select the slot for the day and time you want the post to go live. You can also start from a date in month view.
- Select the social account or accounts. Make sure the destination matches the content you are preparing.
- Compose the post. Add the text and any relevant media, link, tags, or campaign association. Available options vary by social network and post type.
- Check the preview. Review how the post will appear on the selected account or accounts before publishing.
- Choose what happens next. Schedule the post for the selected time, save it as a draft if it is not ready, or publish it if you intend it to go live now. Hootsuite’s getting-started guide and calendar instructions cover the composer and scheduling workflow.
Use the calendar to review your plan
Scan week view for empty stretches or days with too many posts, then use month view to check the broader rhythm. The calendar shows scheduled posts and content published in the previous year. It can also display native posts published directly on social platforms from March 3, 2023 onward; Meta stories and YouTube videos published outside Hootsuite are not shown there. These visibility details are documented in Hootsuite’s calendar management guide.
Recommended times are suggestions, not guarantees
If Hootsuite shows recommended posting times, treat them as account-specific guidance rather than a universal best-time rule. Hootsuite says recommendations use engagement from the previous 30 days, and an account must have at least three posts with engagement during that period to be included. The feature is documented for Facebook Pages, LinkedIn Pages, Instagram Business profiles, X, and TikTok. See Hootsuite’s recommended-times explanation.

Edit, delete, or reschedule a post
Select a scheduled post in the calendar to edit, delete, or reschedule it. In week view, you can drag a scheduled post to a different time slot. Hootsuite’s stated minimum lead times for editing or rescheduling are:
- At least 6 minutes before publication for a scheduled post.
- At least 15 minutes before publication for video.
- At least 30 minutes before publication when video processing is required.
Some posts, including those with video attachments, may be processed before they are sent to the social network; the calendar can show a processing state. Check the selected time zone in Hootsuite settings when planning around daylight-saving changes, because bulk-scheduling behavior has spring-forward and fall-back edge cases. Schedule a batch with a CSV
For many prepared posts, use Bulk Composer to upload a CSV and schedule posts in bulk; Hootsuite’s calendar guide says this can schedule hundreds at once. Follow the current bulk-scheduling instructions for the required template and formatting rather than guessing at CSV columns.

Bring planning tasks into Hootsuite
For team planning outside Hootsuite, its documented planning-app integrations include monday.com, Wrike, Asana, and Airtable. Content from tasks in those apps can be imported into the Hootsuite post composer. See Hootsuite’s planning-app integration guide for supported workflows.
