Choose a fixed mount for a close, stationary setup, a tilting mount to adjust the vertical angle, or a full-motion mount when you need to swivel or reposition the screen. Before buying, verify the TV and mount specifications together; “65-inch” alone does not establish compatibility.
Start with the movement you need
Mount categories describe how the screen can move, not whether a mount fits a particular TV. A mount can suit your viewing position and still be incompatible with your TV’s mounting pattern, weight or installation surface.

These are functional distinctions, not guarantees about a specific product’s range of motion. Check the model’s documentation for its actual tilt, swivel, extension and wall-clearance specifications.
Check fit against the exact TV model
Look up the TV’s full model number in its manual or manufacturer support page. Confirm all of the following against the wall mount’s documentation before purchase:

- VESA pattern: The spacing of the TV’s mounting holes, stated in millimeters. The mount must support that exact pattern.
- Weight: Check the TV’s mounting weight as specified by its manufacturer, and ensure it does not exceed the mount’s rated capacity.
- Mounting screws: Verify the required screw diameter and length or insertion depth. The wrong hardware can damage the TV or fail to secure it properly.
- Wall and installation requirements: Check which wall types the mount supports, and whether it must attach to studs or use specified anchors.
For a concrete example, Roku’s Canada support page lists the Roku TV models 65R5CX and 65R5C5 at 14.2 kg and a 400 × 300 mm VESA pattern. Those specifications apply to those listed models, not to 65-inch TVs generally. Use the exact TV’s own specifications rather than inferring its pattern or weight from screen size. A screen-size range is not a substitute for a weight rating or VESA match. Check the mount manufacturer’s published capacity, included hardware, supported wall type and safety certification, such as UL, CS or ETL where applicable. Do not assume that a certification or test claim for one product applies to another.

SANUS says that part of its UL testing procedure involves loading a mount to four times its rated TV weight capacity and checking whether it passes safety standards. This is SANUS’s description of its procedure, not a universal testing rule. Its VLF220 is a documented full-motion example for 37–65-inch TVs, rated to 130 lb (59.09 kg), but the product page marks it discontinued; it should not be treated as a confirmed current purchase option. What comparative reviews can—and cannot—tell you
TechRadar’s comparative guide, last listed as updated April 29, 2025, says it tests mounts with 32–65-inch TVs and includes products spanning wider size ranges. Its examples include the Mounting Dream MD2268-LK-02, described as a tilting model for 37–82-inch TVs with a 60 kg capacity and VESA support from 200 × 100 to 600 × 400 mm, and the Echogear EGLF3, described as a full-motion model for 43–82-inch TVs with a 49.8 kg capacity and the same stated VESA range. Those are the guide’s editorial assessments and product specifications, not testing by this publication. A broad supported screen-size range still does not confirm fit for your TV. Read the guide for its TV wall-mount comparisons, then check the product’s current manufacturer documentation.

Install only when the wall and setup meet the instructions
Even a compatible mount can be unsafe if installed on an unsuitable surface or with the wrong hardware. Follow the exact mount’s instructions for stud locations, anchors, fasteners and wall type. Use a level to align the bracket, and do not substitute hardware or skip specified steps.
- Confirm the TV model, VESA pattern, weight and screw requirements against the mount manual.
- Confirm that the wall construction and the planned attachment points meet the mount manufacturer’s requirements.
- Gather the specified hardware and use a level while positioning and attaching the wall plate.
- Have another person help lift and secure the TV, or use a professional mounting service. Roku Support advises: “Use two people to safely wall mount the TV or contact a professional TV mounting service for assistance.”
- After installation, check that the TV is secure and that the mount moves only as its instructions permit.
Make the choice
- Choose a fixed mount when you want the screen to stay in one position close to the wall.
- Choose a tilting mount when vertical angle adjustment matters.
- Choose a full-motion mount when you need swivel or repositioning.
Then rule out any model that does not match your TV’s VESA pattern and weight or the wall’s installation requirements. Compare actual wall clearance and movement range in the product manual. There is no universal best mount based on the 65-inch diagonal alone.
