There are two documented ways to gain administrator access on an Abiotic Factor dedicated server: add your 17-digit SteamID64 to Admin.ini, or launch the server with an -AdminPassword parameter and authenticate in-game. The SteamID method is safer for named players and survives restarts; the password method is quicker but gives admin access to anyone who learns the password.
Stop the server before editing its files, restart it fully after changes, and expect the exact Admin.ini location and menu labels to vary by server build. The instructions below reflect third-party guides available on October 14, 2026, rather than confirmed developer documentation.

Use Admin.ini when you want to authorize specific Steam accounts. Use -AdminPassword when you need a quick, temporary arrangement or cannot conveniently edit the server files.

Both methods expose the same in-game administration interface. They do not automatically add a general-purpose text command console.
What you need before changing anything
- Access to the dedicated server’s startup arguments or file manager.
- Permission to stop and start the server.
- The Steam account that should receive access, if using
Admin.ini. - A current backup of the relevant configuration or save directory.
- A private administrator password if using the launch-parameter method.
Make changes while the server is offline. Editing a file while the process is running can be overwritten when the server shuts down, and a running process will not necessarily reread administrator settings.
Method 1: add a Steam account in Admin.ini
1. Find the account’s SteamID64
The administrator entry requires the account’s numeric SteamID64, not a display name, profile URL, or shorter Steam identifier. Third-party setup guides describe it as exactly 17 digits. A SteamID conversion service can turn a profile’s Steam information into that number; check every digit before saving it.

2. Stop the server completely
- Notify players and stop the dedicated server from the host panel or server-control tool.
- Wait until the process is fully stopped rather than merely disconnected from the panel.
- Make a backup of the server’s configuration and save directories.
3. Locate Admin.ini
Guides disagree about the default folder, and the difference may reflect server-build or hosting-panel layouts. Check both likely locations:

Some installations use a custom location supplied with -AdminIniPath=. On a managed server, use the panel’s file manager or configuration-files area while the server is stopped. Search for the existing file name rather than creating a second copy in an unverified folder. If no file is present, confirm the installed build’s expected path with the host’s documentation or support before creating one.
4. Add the moderator entry
Open the file as plain text. Create or locate the [Moderators] section and add one line for each administrator:

Moderator=76561198000000001Replace the example values with the real 17-digit SteamID64 numbers. Keep one account per line. Do not use the older-looking format SteamID=...; a current third-party guide specifically warns that bare SteamID= lines are not recognized by the supported format.

Preserve the section name and spelling exactly. Do not add quotes, commas, display names, or extra punctuation unless the file already contains a documented setting that requires it.
5. Save and perform a full restart
- Save the file without changing its extension.
- Start the server and wait for it to finish loading.
- Join with the Steam account that was added.
- Open the pause menu and look for Player Management, then the Admin tab. Some builds or guides show the path as ESC → Admin instead.
A full stop-and-start is important. Simply reconnecting, changing worlds, or refreshing a hosting panel may leave the old administrator list in memory.
Adding and removing several administrators
Repeat the Moderator= line for every authorized SteamID64. To revoke access, stop the server, remove that account’s line, save the file, and restart fully. Keep a private record of who was added and when, especially on a community server with rotating staff.
Method 2: use the -AdminPassword launch parameter
This method does not bind access to a particular Steam account. Instead, the server starts with an administrator password, and a player who knows that password can authenticate through the in-game admin flow.

1. Choose a separate administrator password
Do not reuse the ordinary server join password. Anyone who can join and knows the same string could also obtain administrator privileges. Use a long, unique value and share it only with trusted operators. Avoid putting it in public Discord messages, screenshots, stream overlays, or client-facing configuration files.
2. Add the parameter to the server’s startup arguments
In the host panel’s launch-options field, or in the command used to start the dedicated server, add:
-AdminPassword=Use-a-private-unique-passwordKeep the parameter as one argument. If your hosting panel has separate fields for launch options and the normal server password, place it in launch options, not in the player join-password field. The exact panel syntax may differ, but the game parameter itself is -AdminPassword.
3. Restart and authenticate in-game
- Save the startup configuration.
- Stop and start the server so the new launch argument is actually applied.
- Join the server as a normal player.
- Open the administration interface from the pause menu and enter the administrator password when prompted.
Because this method depends on the launch flag, removing the flag or starting the server through a profile that omits it removes the password-based administrator route on that run. Keep the password private even after changing it; rotate it by replacing the value and restarting.

The documented vanilla workflow is graphical. Look for ESC → Player Management → Admin; another guide labels the destination simply ESC → Admin. Menu wording can change with a patch or server build.
Third-party guides document player-management actions including kicking and banning. Use those actions carefully: a kick removes a player from the current session, while a ban is intended to prevent that account from returning. Check the selected player and confirmation dialog before applying either action.
There is no confirmed vanilla command console
One set of guides says that god mode, noclip, item or creature spawning, and teleportation are not built into the unmodified game. A real command console is associated with a community UE4SS modification rather than the vanilla server interface.

Another guide lists commands such as Summon, Teleport, and KickPlayer. That claim conflicts with the guides describing the stock game, so do not assume those commands work on an unmodified server. Verify the installed patch and any server-side mods before relying on a command list. A text box, plugin, or mod menu is not evidence that the same command is available to every player or every server build.
Understanding the server’s configuration files
There is no consistently documented single Server.ini file that controls all administration settings. Third-party hosting guides describe a split arrangement:
- Launch parameters control items such as server name, join password, ports, and player slots.
- A per-world
SandboxSettings.inifile controls gameplay rules. Admin.inistores the named administrator list.
This is why editing a file called Server.ini may have no effect on administrator access. Verify which file your installed build actually reads, especially after an update or a migration between hosting providers.
Troubleshooting when the Admin tab does not appear

Security and maintenance checklist
- Use
Admin.inifor named, accountable staff whenever practical. - Use a different value for the administrator password and the player join password.
- Back up the file before changing entries.
- Remove former staff immediately and restart the server.
- Do not publish SteamID64 lists or administrator passwords in public channels.
- After every game update, recheck the file path, section name, menu labels, and supported features.
- Record whether an account was authorized through
Admin.inior through the launch password.
Version and documentation caveat
The instructions above are based on third-party guides available on October 14, 2026. No official Deep Silver, Fishlabs, or Steam developer documentation confirming the setup was identified, and the guides disagree about the default Admin.ini directory and about which commands exist in the unmodified game. Treat the path, menu labels, and feature set as build-sensitive. If an update changes the behavior, verify the active installation’s files and startup arguments before changing permissions or installing a mod.
