To ban a player from a Soulmask dedicated server, log in as an administrator and add the player’s SteamID64 to the server permission list. In the console opened with the tilde key, run gm key YOURPASSWORD, enable list 1 with gm EnableServerPermissionList 1 1, then submit gm AddServerPermissionList 1 <SteamID64>. The player should be removed and prevented from reconnecting under that Steam account. To reverse it, use gm RemoveServerPermissionList 1 <SteamID64>.

These commands come from community command references that agree on the permission-list method. CampFire Studio’s official private-server documentation remains the authority for the build you run, especially for launch arguments and any changes to command syntax.

What you need before banning anyone
The permission-list commands only work when the server has an administrator password configured at launch. Add an admin password with the server’s -adminpsw launch argument before starting the server. If the server was started without that argument, there is no known in-game method to add an administrator password while it is running; stop the server, add the argument to its startup configuration, and launch it again.
Administrative access is session-based. Even if you used the password during a previous connection, run gm key YOURPASSWORD again each time you rejoin the server or reconnect after a restart. Replace YOURPASSWORD with the exact value assigned to -adminpsw.

- Have console access to the dedicated server or its host control panel.
- Know the admin password used by
-adminpsw. - Have the target player’s numeric SteamID64, not a display name or shortened SteamID.
- Use a server build whose command syntax has been checked against current CampFire documentation if possible.
Find the player’s SteamID64
Soulmask’s permission-list ban command targets a SteamID64. A player’s in-game name is not a reliable identifier: names can change, contain unusual characters, or be shared by several accounts.
Use a profile URL or account name
Ask the player for the URL of their Steam profile, or obtain the profile URL from a trusted server record. A third-party lookup service can convert that profile URL or a username into a SteamID64; one community guide names steamid.io, but that service was not independently verified here. Treat the returned number as unconfirmed until it matches the account you intend to moderate.
Check the value before submitting a ban
- Confirm that the result is a 17-digit SteamID64 rather than a Steam profile nickname, vanity name, or another Steam identifier format.
- Compare the account’s profile name and avatar with the player you are addressing.
- Keep a private moderation record containing the SteamID64, date, reason, and moderator. Do not publish the identifier in a public chat or forum.
If you cannot establish the correct SteamID64, do not guess. A wrong value can ban another person, while a name-only command may not be supported by your build.
Ban a player with the permission list
Run the following sequence from the Soulmask server console. The examples use permission-list ID 1, which is the list ID shown by the community guides for banning.

gm EnableServerPermissionList 1 1. In this command, the first1identifies the list and the second1turns that list on. A value of0in the second position turns the list off. - Add the account. Replace
<SteamID64>with the player’s numeric ID and rungm AddServerPermissionList 1 <SteamID64>. - Confirm the result. The player should be kicked and blocked when the add command is accepted. Ask the player to leave the server and attempt a later connection only after you have checked the console output and the permission-list state.

gm AddServerPermissionList 1 <SteamID64>Some community references omit the gm prefix and show the command names alone. The gm-prefixed form is the clearest documented pattern in the guides summarized for this procedure. If your server rejects a command, try the same command without gm, one form at a time, and record which syntax your server accepts. Do not assume that a successful console response means a player was banned; verify the connection behavior.
Remove a ban
To allow an account back onto the server, authenticate again if necessary and remove the same SteamID64 from the same permission list:

gm RemoveServerPermissionList 1 <SteamID64>- Use the exact SteamID64 that was added. A changed display name does not change the account ID.
- Submit
gm RemoveServerPermissionList 1 <SteamID64>. - Have the player restart their connection attempt after the command is accepted. A player already in a failed connection loop may need to restart the game or wait for the server to refresh its state.
List IDs are not guaranteed to be identical on every installation. One host guide documents a remove-permission example using list ID 4 for unmuting, indicating that administrators can have multiple lists. That example is not proof that list 4 is the ban list on your server. Remove the account from the list that contains it, and verify the list ID in the documentation or management panel for your build.
Make a ban survive a server restart
Community guides report that enabling the permission list with gm EnableServerPermissionList 1 1 is not persistent across a server restart. If the list is disabled when the process starts again, an account you previously banned may be able to join.

Persistence is associated with the -serverpm launch argument. One guide gives the form -serverpm=2, but that value has not been confirmed against CampFire Studio’s documentation. Do not blindly copy the number into a production server. Check the current private-server reference for the accepted value and add the argument to the same startup configuration that contains -adminpsw. Then restart during a maintenance window and test with a controlled account.
Persistence verification checklist
- Record the banned SteamID64 and the list ID used.
- Stop the server cleanly and start it with the documented
-serverpmsetting. - Reconnect as an administrator and run
gm key YOURPASSWORD; administrator status does not carry over between sessions. - Confirm that the permission list is enabled after startup.
- Test the banned account’s connection from a safe test environment, or ask the account owner to try once.
- If the ban disappears, remove the unconfirmed launch value, consult the current CampFire documentation or your host’s Soulmask instructions, and do not treat the ban as persistent until a restart test succeeds.

When the command does not work
The console says you are not an administrator
Run gm key YOURPASSWORD again. If it still fails, verify that the server process was launched with -adminpsw, that the password has no extra spaces, and that you are connected to the intended server instance. Restarting the server does not remove the need to authenticate after you reconnect.

Try the command without the gm prefix if your build’s console expects bare command names. If neither form works, stop experimenting with slash commands or name-based examples from unrelated guides; those formats have not been confirmed for the current Soulmask permission-list system. Check the command reference for your exact server build and host.
The player can still join
- Confirm the SteamID64 was copied correctly and belongs to the account being tested.
- Confirm list 1 is enabled after the ban command.
- Check whether your installation uses a different permission-list ID.
- Reconnect as an administrator, because a stale session can make it unclear whether the command was accepted.
- Restart the server and repeat the test if you changed launch arguments.
A SteamID ban applies to that Steam account. It does not automatically identify other accounts controlled by the same person.

The player’s character still appears in the world
One community guide, approximately 700 days old, described a bug in which a banned player’s character remained visible after removal. The age of that report means it may no longer apply. If you see this behavior, capture the server version and logs, restart the server cleanly, and test whether the character disappears; do not assume that a visual remnant means the account can still authenticate.

Some pages published in 2026 list examples such as /kick [player_name], /ban [player_id], kick [PlayerName], or ban [PlayerName]. Those examples do not match the gm permission-list syntax used by the guides supporting this procedure, and their operation was not confirmed. Names can also collide or change. Treat those commands as unverified unless the current CampFire reference for your build explicitly documents them.

SteamID64 targeting is more dependable than a display name because it follows the account, but it is not an identity-proofing system. A person can create or use another Steam account and evade a single-account ban. If evasion is a problem, combine the technical ban with server-side moderation:
- Keep private records of incidents, identifiers, timestamps, and evidence.
- Use a clear code of conduct and explain the reason for a ban to affected players when appropriate.
- Review new accounts manually when your community rules permit it.
- Do not publish personal information or attempt to identify a real person from a Steam account.
- Escalate repeat abuse through your hosting provider or platform reporting channels when necessary.
Self-hosted and rented servers
On a self-hosted server, place -adminpsw and any confirmed -serverpm option in the startup script or service definition that launches the Soulmask process. On a rented server, the same settings may appear in a command-line field, an advanced startup-variable panel, or a provider-specific configuration file. Provider guides can use different field names and may restart the process automatically after saving changes.
Before editing a rented server, make a backup of its startup configuration and note the current game version. Apply one change at a time, restart, authenticate with gm key, and test the permission list. If the host’s panel hides launch arguments, ask support where -adminpsw and the documented permission-list persistence option are configured rather than placing them in an arbitrary in-game chat field.
Operational checklist for a defensible ban
- Identify the correct SteamID64 and preserve the evidence that links it to the offending account.
- Confirm the server was launched with
-adminpsw. - Authenticate in the current session with
gm key YOURPASSWORD. - Enable the intended permission list.
- Add the SteamID64 with the documented add command.
- Read the console response and record the time, list ID, and moderator.
- Test that the account is disconnected and cannot reconnect.
- Configure and restart with the officially documented persistence option if the ban must survive restarts.
- Test again after the restart.
- For an appeal, remove the same SteamID64 from the same list and verify reconnection.
What is established—and what still needs confirmation
The community references consistently describe a permission-list workflow using SteamID64, list enabling, an add command for bans, and a remove command for unbans. They also agree that an admin password must be set at launch and that administrator authentication is not retained between sessions.

Several details remain build- or host-dependent: the accepted value for -serverpm, whether a current build accepts commands without the gm prefix, whether any slash or name-based commands work, and whether every command behaves identically on the version you run. CampFire Studio’s current private-server documentation should settle those points. Until you verify them, treat a ban as temporary across restarts and confirm its effect directly rather than relying on a command that merely appears in the console.
