Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsYou can resize hundreds of images without uploading them: use a graphical batch tool for point-and-click control, or ImageMagick when you want repeatable commands. Decide the output-size rule first, save results to a separate folder, and test a small sample before processing the full collection.
Choose a resizing method
| Option | Best for | What it does | Important caveat |
|---|---|---|---|
| XnResize | Resizing a folder through a graphical interface | XnView Software says it can process thousands of photos in one pass. Its controls include pixels, percentage, longest side, and fitting within a bounding box; aspect ratio is preserved by default, and it can convert the output format during resizing. The vendor says processing runs on your computer. XnResize details | The vendor says it is free for private, educational, and nonprofit use. Check its current terms for other uses. |
| XnConvert | GUI batches that need resizing plus other actions | XnView Software describes resize, crop, watermark, rename, and metadata actions, and says the application works offline on Windows, macOS, and Linux. The vendor lists 80 chainable actions, more than 500 readable formats and around 70 writable formats. XnConvert details | The listed features and format counts are vendor claims, not independent tests. The vendor says company use requires a license; check current terms and format support. |
ImageMagick mogrify |
Folder-level command-line resizing | The official documentation demonstrates resizing JPEGs in a folder and describes many other image operations. Mogrify documentation | By default, mogrify overwrites the source images. Use a backup or configure separate output handling. |
| ImageMagick command-line processing | Multi-input jobs and repeatable scripted workflows | ImageMagick’s documentation shows an example that processes hundreds of large JPEG images into resized PNG thumbnails. Command-line processing documentation | Commands can depend on your shell, file naming, installed version, and format support. Test on copies first. |
The XnView pages describe local processing, but that is the vendor’s claim rather than an independent privacy audit. Neither the cited documentation nor the product claims establish a speed winner, so choose by workflow, not an assumed throughput ranking.

Pick the size rule before you start
“Resize to 1200 × 800” can mean different things. A fixed width and height may change proportions or require cropping, while a maximum box can keep the whole image inside those bounds. Match the rule to what the images are for:

Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Exact dimensions: Use when every output must have the same width and height, such as a standardized set of tiles. Check whether the tool crops, pads, or distorts images that do not match the target proportions.
- Maximum bounding box: Use when neither dimension should exceed a limit but images should keep their original proportions. XnResize offers a fit-inside-a-box control.
- Longest side: Use when portrait and landscape images should share a maximum edge length without being forced to the same shape. XnResize lists longest-side resizing.
- Percentage: Use when each image should be scaled by the same proportion rather than brought to one common pixel size. XnResize lists percentage resizing.
If preserving proportions matters, choose a fit or longest-side option and verify the aspect-ratio setting. XnResize says that ratio is preserved by default, but check the selected settings before committing a large batch.

- Get NVMe solid state performance with up to 1050MB/s read and 1000MB/s write speeds in a portable, high-capacity drive(1) (Based on internal testing; performance may be lower depending on host device & other factors. 1MB=1,000,000 bytes.)
- Up to 3-meter drop protection and IP65 water and dust resistance mean this tough drive can take a beating(3) (Previously rated for 2-meter drop protection and IP55 rating. Now qualified for the higher, stated specs.)
- Use the handy carabiner loop to secure it to your belt loop or backpack for extra peace of mind.
- Help keep private content private with the included password protection featuring 256‐bit AES hardware encryption.(3)
- Easily manage files and automatically free up space with the SanDisk Memory Zone app.(5). Non-Operating Temperature -20°C to 85°C
Resize the batch safely
- Choose the output rule and format. Decide whether you need exact dimensions, a bounding box, a longest-side limit, or a percentage. If converting formats too, confirm that the target format supports features your images rely on, such as transparency.
- Protect the originals. Copy the source folder or set a different output directory. This is essential with
mogrify, which overwrites originals unless output handling is changed. - Run a representative sample. Include both portrait and landscape images, plus any unusual formats in the collection. A small test catches unsuitable sizing and format settings before they affect the whole folder.
- Inspect the results. Check dimensions, orientation, transparency, output format, filenames, and visual quality. Confirm that the output location and naming pattern are what you intended.
- Process the full collection and verify it. Apply the same configuration to the remaining images, then look for failed files and compare the output count with the expected batch.
When a graphical tool is the better fit
Choose XnResize when the job is essentially “select a folder, set a size rule, and save resized images.” Choose XnConvert when you also need a chain of actions such as renaming, cropping, watermarking, or metadata work. Its vendor says it has no built-in batch-count limit; that wording is not a guarantee that any computer can process an unlimited collection in practice.
For a GUI walkthrough of batch conversion and adding a resize action, see XnView’s batch-processing guide. Verify current supported formats and licensing before relying on a particular workflow, especially for company use.

- Always Fast: No slowdowns for large file transfers. With SLC caching (25% of current available capacity allocated as high-speed cache), this external SSD delivers steady 10Gbps for transfers within the cache capacity
When ImageMagick is the better fit
Use ImageMagick if you are comfortable with a terminal, need to repeat the same operation, or want to incorporate resizing into a script. Its documentation describes mogrify as a tool for resizing and other image operations. Because the default behavior can replace originals, first test your command against copies and confirm where the results are written.
Command examples are sensitive to shell syntax and file patterns. Check the official documentation for the installed version and your image formats rather than assuming that a command copied from another system will behave identically.

What to compare before choosing
- Interface: GUI controls make folder selection and visual configuration straightforward; commands favor repeatable operations.
- Size controls: Confirm the method supports your rule—fixed dimensions, percentage, longest side, or fitting inside a box.
- Formats: Verify both input reading and output writing for the formats in your collection.
- Output behavior: Check destination, filenames, overwrite behavior, and whether format conversion is part of the job.
- Workflow complexity: If resizing is one of several actions, a batch converter may be more convenient than a resize-only workflow.
- Platform and license: Check current operating-system support and the terms that apply to your personal, educational, nonprofit, or company use.
