What to do before installing version 2.0.0
Bandai Namco Entertainment America’s October 15, 2026 notice identifies version 2.0.0 for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S and Steam. An internet connection is required to apply it. The safest order is:

- Open the game and create a fresh manual save at a safe point.
- Exit the game normally instead of shutting down while it is saving.
- Confirm that your platform has synchronized the newest save to its supported backup service or that your local/manual copy is present.
- Start the update with enough free storage for the download and installation.
- Launch the updated game and load the expected save.
- Only after that check succeeds should you replace, delete or overwrite an older backup.
This sequence gives you a known-good save made immediately before the update and preserves a recovery point if the first launch has a problem.
Update size, release timing and storage requirements
The update download is different from the game’s installed size. Bandai Namco lists these approximate version 2.0.0 download sizes:

These are approximate figures from Bandai Namco’s 2026 notice, not a guarantee of the final space used by the installed patch. Leave additional free space for temporary download and installation files. The Nintendo Switch listing identifies the game as released October 16, 2026 and shows Save Data Cloud support. The Switch 2 listing also shows Save Data Cloud support and gives an estimated 7 GB game size.
Nintendo Switch and Switch 2: exact safe-backup sequence
1. Create a fresh in-game manual save
Start Tales of Eternia Remastered and reach a safe point where the game permits saving. Use the game’s manual-save command and choose a new slot or a slot whose timestamp you can recognize. A new slot is preferable because it leaves your earlier saves untouched if you later need to compare them.
2. Close the game cleanly
Return to the title or system level using the game’s normal exit flow, then close the software from the console. Do not remove power, force a shutdown or begin the update while the game is still writing data. The goal is to let the console finish committing the manual save before synchronization begins.

3. Confirm Save Data Cloud synchronization
Nintendo’s official product pages list Save Data Cloud as a supported feature for both the Switch and Switch 2 editions. The pages confirm support but do not publish a title-specific export procedure or a fixed Settings-menu path. Use the current Nintendo Switch Online save-data controls on your console to check that the newest save has synchronized, and note the displayed date or time.

If synchronization reports an error, do not update yet. Keep the console online, resolve the account or storage issue shown by the system, and verify again. A cloud feature is useful only when the latest local save has actually reached the cloud.
4. Install the update while connected to the internet
Start the version 2.0.0 update after the cloud check succeeds. Keep the console connected until the download and installation finish. Avoid launching the game from an interrupted download or powering off during installation.
5. Load the expected save before replacing the backup
Open the updated game and load the manual save you created. Check that the expected character, location, progress and inventory are present. If the game opens but the save is missing or appears older, stop and preserve the existing local and cloud data rather than creating new saves over it.

The available official material confirms that version 2.0.0 applies to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S and Steam, but it does not provide title-specific backup and restore menu paths for those platforms. Because menu names and cloud behavior can change, use the current help controls for your own platform rather than following an unverified sequence copied from another game.

PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4
Create and close a fresh in-game manual save first. Then use the current PlayStation save-management or cloud-storage controls for your console and subscription status to verify that the new file is available. Do not assume that a cloud upload completed merely because the console is online; check the file date or synchronization status shown by the system. Retain any local save or USB copy your console allows until the updated game has loaded correctly.
Xbox Series X|S
Make a fresh manual save, quit the game normally and allow the console to finish synchronizing before starting the 8 GB approximate update. Xbox save synchronization is normally handled by the platform, but the available notice does not document a Tales of Eternia Remastered-specific restore path. If the update reports an error or the save appears old, do not continue playing and overwrite the synchronized file; consult the current Xbox save-sync guidance first.
Steam
Save in-game, exit to the desktop and wait for Steam to finish any cloud synchronization indicator before applying the 7 GB approximate update. The supplied official material does not state whether this title exposes multiple selectable cloud snapshots or a separate export command. Keep the original local save directory intact if you make a manual copy, and verify the file timestamp after quitting. If the post-update save is wrong, close the game before Steam synchronizes that wrong state over the older copy.

How to verify that the backup is usable
- Timestamp: The platform or file manager shows a time after the manual save was created.
- Identity: The save is associated with the account and edition you are updating.
- Content: Before updating, the in-game slot shows the expected character, location or progress.
- Synchronization: Cloud status reports completion rather than pending, paused or failed.
- Separation: The backup is not the only copy that can be overwritten by the next autosave.
A backup that cannot be located, is still uploading or has an unknown timestamp should be treated as unverified.

When the download or installation fails
Leave the original save in place. Confirm the internet connection and free storage, then retry the platform’s update process. Do not delete the game’s save data as a first troubleshooting step; removing it can eliminate the very file you need for recovery.
When the game launches but shows an older save
Quit without creating a new save. Check the cloud or manual-copy timestamp against the pre-update record. If the platform offers a choice between local and cloud data, select the copy whose timestamp matches the fresh manual save. The exact selection and restore controls are platform-dependent and are not specified in Bandai Namco’s notice.
When the save is missing or appears corrupted
Do not overwrite the cloud copy by repeatedly launching and saving. Preserve the local data, then follow the current recovery instructions for your platform account. If you have both a cloud copy and a manual/local copy, compare their dates before restoring; choose the newest copy made before version 2.0.0 was installed.

When it is safe to delete an older backup
Keep the original local save, older in-game slot or manual copy until all three checks pass: version 2.0.0 is fully installed, the game reaches the normal menu without an error, and the expected pre-update save loads with the correct progress. Once those checks are complete, make a new post-update backup before cleaning up older files. Retaining at least one pre-update copy is prudent if you expect additional patches or if the platform provides limited restore history.
