How to Back Up and Transfer Fishlabs Game Saves on PC and Console

There is no single, verified save-file location or transfer method shared by every Fishlabs game. The correct procedure depends on the exact title, platform, store version and whether that title enables a cloud-save service. For a dependable backup, save normally, quit the game completely, copy the entire local save folder to dated external storage, and restore it only to the same game and platform version. Steam-to-Xbox, PlayStation or Nintendo conversion should be treated as unsupported unless the game’s own documentation explicitly advertises cross-save.

Start by identifying the exact Fishlabs game and platform

Fishlabs has released games with different engines, launchers and platform integrations. A save from Galaxy on Fire, Chorus or another Fishlabs title may use a different directory, file format or synchronization service. Because no Fishlabs-authored source establishes one universal Windows path, filename pattern or PC-to-console conversion process, do not copy a path found for one game and assume it applies to another.

Record these details before touching the files:

  • The exact game title and edition (for example, a standard, deluxe or remastered release).
  • The device holding the newest progress: Windows PC, Xbox console, PlayStation console or Nintendo hardware.
  • The store or launcher used on PC, such as Steam or another officially supported launcher.
  • The destination device and account that will receive the save.
  • The game version on both devices, including any platform-specific release or update.

This information determines whether you should use a platform cloud, a manual folder copy or only an in-game cross-save feature. If the title’s support page does not mention cross-save, assume that a raw PC save cannot be imported into a console.

Choose the transfer method that matches your situation

Method Best use Main dependency Main risk
Manual folder copy Offline backup and a PC-to-PC move Access to the local save directory Copying while the game is running or restoring the wrong version
Steam Cloud Moving a supported PC title between Steam devices The game must enable Steam Cloud and synchronization must finish A cloud conflict can replace a newer local save, and Steam warns that lost data may not be recoverable
Xbox cloud saves Moving a supported Xbox title between Xbox devices The same Xbox profile and title support An incomplete upload or a synchronization conflict
PlayStation or Nintendo cloud Recovering a supported console title Platform cloud entitlement and title support The cloud copy may be older than the local save
PC-to-console transfer Only a title with documented cross-save An explicit cross-platform implementation from the developer A console sandbox normally rejects a raw PC file

Use a manual copy even when cloud storage is available if the progress is important. It gives you an independent rollback point before you accept a cloud conflict or reinstall an operating system.

Prepare a clean backup before moving anything

  1. On the device containing the newest progress, launch the game and load the intended profile.
  2. Use the game’s normal save command or reach a confirmed autosave point. Do not rely on an uncertain checkpoint.
  3. Return to the title screen if the game provides one, then quit to the desktop or console dashboard.
  4. Close the launcher as well when it keeps the game process or synchronization service active. In Windows, confirm that the game is no longer listed as a running process before copying files.
  5. Write down the date, platform, game edition and profile name. This prevents an older backup from being mistaken for the newest one.

Never copy a save directory while the game is writing to it. A partially written profile can look like a valid file but fail to load later.

Back up a Fishlabs save manually on Windows

Find the save directory without assuming a Fishlabs-wide path

No authoritative source establishes one Fishlabs save directory for Windows. Locate the folder used by your particular installation instead of relying on a generic internet path.

  1. Open File Explorer and search the folders associated with the game title, the publisher or the launcher. Search by the exact title first.
  2. Sort candidate folders by Date modified. A folder that changed immediately after your confirmed in-game save is more likely to contain the active profile.
  3. Inspect candidate folders for files whose timestamps changed with the save. Extensions vary by game, so do not filter only for a particular suffix.
  4. Check the usual Windows user-data areas—Documents, Saved Games and the user’s AppData
    oaming
    , AppData
    oaming
    and AppData
    oaming
equivalents—only as search locations, not as guaranteed Fishlabs paths. A title may use a launcher-managed directory or another location.
  5. If the game has an official support article or launcher setting that reveals its save location, follow that title-specific instruction instead of guessing.

When you find a likely folder, make a test save, quit, refresh the folder and confirm that the contents or timestamps change. This is safer than copying a similarly named configuration folder.

Copy the complete folder

  1. Right-click the confirmed save folder and choose Copy. Include every file and subfolder; do not select only the newest-looking file unless the game’s documentation says that is sufficient.
  2. Open a USB flash drive or another external storage location and create a folder such as Fishlabs-backups.
  3. Create a dated subfolder that identifies the game and source device, for example GameTitle-Windows-Steam-2026-10-19.
  4. Paste the complete save folder into that dated location. Ubisoft Help uses the same principle in its official PC procedure: copy the game folder and paste it somewhere you can access later, such as cloud storage or an external drive.
  5. Open the copied folder and compare its file count and approximate size with the original. Keep the original backup untouched until a restore has loaded correctly.

A USB flash drive is sufficient for a small save folder. A larger external drive is useful when you keep several dated versions or back up multiple games. The storage device protects against a Windows reinstall, but it does not make a PC save compatible with a console.

Keep more than one restore point

Use a simple rotation: retain the newest backup and at least one earlier backup that was made before a major story decision or update. If the newest copy is damaged, the earlier dated folder gives you a known-good option. Do not overwrite the only backup every time you save.

Use Steam Cloud when the Fishlabs title supports it

Steam Cloud is optional at the individual-game level. Steam Support describes it as storage hosted by Steam that lets games and the platform retain “game settings, save games, profile stats and other user-specific bits.” That description does not mean every Fishlabs release is enrolled.

Verify support and upload the newest local save

  1. Open the game’s Steam store page and look for the Steam Cloud feature. The listing must show support for that specific title; seeing Steam Cloud on an unrelated game proves nothing about your Fishlabs installation.
  2. In the Steam Library, open the game’s properties and review the cloud-save setting. Client labels can change, so use the setting that says the game’s saves are kept in Steam Cloud when it is available.
  3. Launch the game on the computer with the newest progress, save normally and quit completely.
  4. Remain online and wait for Steam to finish synchronization. Do not shut down, uninstall or start the game on another device while an upload is pending.
  5. Keep a manual folder copy as insurance, especially before a reinstall or a major game update.

Resolve a Steam Cloud conflict safely

If Steam presents local and cloud versions, stop and compare their timestamps or the last session you remember playing. Select the copy that contains the newest confirmed progress; do not choose automatically merely because it is labeled cloud. Steam warns that cloud conflicts and lost data may not be recoverable, which is why the dated manual backup should remain available.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

After selecting a version, let synchronization finish, then launch the game and verify the profile, inventory and most recent checkpoint. If the wrong version loads, exit without making another save, restore the dated local copy to a separate location and repeat the comparison rather than overwriting your only backup.

Move a supported Xbox save between Xbox devices

Xbox saves are tied to the Xbox profile and the game’s support for the platform’s save system. Microsoft’s documentation describes local-to-cloud uploads, periodic synchronization and conflict states, but it does not establish that every Fishlabs title implements the feature.

  1. Sign in on the original console with the Xbox profile that owns the progress.
  2. Connect to the internet and open the game. Allow any local save to upload; remain at the dashboard only after synchronization has completed.
  3. Quit the game normally rather than powering off during a save or update.
  4. On the destination Xbox, sign in with the same profile and install the same title and edition.
  5. Start the game while connected. When Xbox asks which save to use, choose the copy with the newest confirmed progress. If the status is unclear, do not create a new save over it; return to the original console and confirm that it finished uploading.

Xbox does not expose a general-purpose file browser for importing arbitrary PC save files. A USB copy made on Windows therefore cannot be pasted into an Xbox profile unless the game’s developer provides a documented migration tool.

Use PlayStation or Nintendo cloud controls where the title supports them

Console cloud recovery is platform-managed and title-dependent. A 2K support guide documents the general patterns: PlayStation upload and download controls, Xbox profile availability, Nintendo Save Data Cloud backup and Steam Remote Storage. Those platform instructions explain how the services work; they do not confirm that a particular Fishlabs game participates.

PlayStation

  1. On the original console, confirm that the game has reached a completed save point and quit it.
  2. Open the console’s saved-data or cloud-storage controls and upload the game’s save, using the platform’s current menu labels.
  3. On the destination console, use the same PlayStation account, install the same game edition and download the cloud copy before launching the game.
  4. Check the save’s date and the in-game profile before making a new save.

A cloud entitlement may be required, depending on the PlayStation service and account. If the game is not listed in the cloud controls, use the title’s own transfer feature or treat the move as unsupported.

Nintendo hardware

  1. On the source system, open the game’s save-data backup controls and create a Nintendo Save Data Cloud backup when the title supports it.
  2. On the destination system, sign in with the same Nintendo Account, install the identical game and download the backup.
  3. Launch the game only after the download finishes, then verify the profile and latest progress.

Nintendo support varies by title, and some games do not allow cloud backup. The absence of a backup option is a game limitation, not evidence that a Windows folder can be imported.

Can you transfer a Fishlabs save from PC to Xbox, PlayStation or Nintendo?

Only when the exact game explicitly advertises cross-save or cross-progression and explains the account-linking procedure. No source establishes a Fishlabs-wide conversion from a PC save file to a console save. PC files may be encrypted, signed, stored in a different format or rejected by the console’s protected storage even when the game title is identical.

Do not try to rename a Windows file, copy it to a USB stick and expect a console to recognize it. A legitimate cross-save system normally synchronizes through a developer account or a documented platform service rather than exposing the raw file. Check the game’s official support page for terms such as cross-save, cross-progression or linked account. If those terms are absent, keep the PC and console progress separate.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Restore a backup after reinstalling Windows or replacing a PC

  1. Install the same Fishlabs title, edition and launcher used to create the backup. Update it to the same version or a newer version that the developer states is compatible.
  2. Start the game once, reach its first menu and quit. This lets the installation create its expected save directory.
  3. Temporarily disable or pause cloud synchronization if the launcher might download an older profile over your manual copy.
  4. Open the newly created save directory and make a safety copy of it before changing anything.
  5. Place the backed-up folder contents into the exact directory used by the new installation. Preserve the folder structure; do not add an extra nested folder by pasting Saveackupackup accidentally.
  6. Re-enable cloud synchronization only after the local restore is in place, and resolve any conflict in favor of the dated backup you verified.
  7. Launch the game, load the profile and test a noncritical action. Confirm the expected campaign position, settings and inventory.
  8. Quit normally and make a fresh backup of the restored save before continuing to play.

Keep the external copy until the restored profile has survived at least one complete launch-and-quit cycle. If the game reports corruption, close it without saving, restore the untouched backup to a separate folder and investigate the edition or version mismatch.

Troubleshooting: symptoms, causes and safe fixes

Symptom Likely cause Safe action
The new PC shows no progress The wrong directory was copied, the game created a different profile, or the edition differs Quit the game, preserve the current folder, verify the source folder by its save-time timestamp and compare the exact edition and launcher
Steam asks which save to keep Local and cloud versions have different timestamps Stop, compare dates with your manual backup and select the newest confirmed copy
The console starts a new game The title lacks cross-save, the wrong account is signed in, or the cloud upload never completed Confirm account and title support; return to the source device and complete synchronization before trying again
The restored save is corrupted Files were copied while running, the backup was incomplete, or versions are incompatible Use an earlier dated backup, copy only after quitting, and install the same edition and a compatible version
Several folders have similar names Configuration, cache and save data are stored together Make a test save, sort by modification time and identify the folder that changes; back up the complete parent folder once confirmed
A cloud copy is older than expected The upload was pending or a conflict was resolved automatically Do not make another save on the destination; restore the newest manual copy and complete synchronization from the source device

A repeatable backup routine for important progress

  • Make a manual backup before reinstalling Windows, changing launchers, replacing hardware or accepting a major update.
  • Use a dated folder name that includes the title, platform, store and profile.
  • Keep one copy on the computer and another on removable or cloud storage; a single drive is not a backup.
  • Never edit, rename or open save files in a text editor unless the developer specifically documents that procedure.
  • Verify a restore on the destination device before deleting the source copy.
  • When cloud synchronization is enabled, wait for completion after every important session and keep the manual copy for conflict recovery.

The practical rule is simple: use the platform cloud only when the exact Fishlabs title supports it, use a complete folder copy for PC-to-PC protection, and require explicit developer documentation before attempting any PC-to-console move.
