Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is not released yet. The dated PlayStation Store listing gives February 12, 2027 as the release date, so there is no confirmed save folder, filename, or tested restore procedure today. Once the PC build creates saves, the safest method will be to close the game, copy the complete save directory into dated backup folders, and preserve the current directory before restoring anything.
This guide separates what is verified now from the steps you can use after launch. It also covers Steam Deck, the currently undocumented Windows location, and what to do if Steam presents a cloud conflict.

What is the current release and save-file status?
The game is planned for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC through Steam. The PlayStation storefront’s dated field lists February 12, 2027. An older sentence on the official Tomb Raider page says the game arrives in 2026; that statement is superseded by the dated storefront field.
Because the release build is not available, no authoritative source currently identifies a Windows save path or filename. PCGamingWiki’s entry leaves the Windows save-location field blank. Its Steam Play/Linux row provides only a generic Proton prefix and warns that the app ID may differ:

That prefix is a starting point for investigation on Steam Deck or another Linux system, not a complete save path. The final subfolder and file names have not been published. The same entry contains no affirmative Steam Cloud value or notes, so you should not assume cloud synchronization is available.

Where are Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis saves stored?
Windows PC
There is no verified Windows location yet. Do not publish or rely on a guessed path such as a Documents, AppData, or Steam installation folder. A game can store saves in any of those locations, and copying the wrong directory can appear to work while leaving the real progress untouched.
After release, use the game’s support documentation or a technical reference that has inspected the released build. Create a known in-game save first, close the game, and then identify which file or directory changed at that exact time. Treat a path as confirmed only when restoring a copy from it demonstrably returns the intended slot.

Steam Deck and other Linux systems
Begin with the Proton prefix listed by PCGamingWiki:

On a Steam Deck, the library may be on internal storage or a microSD card, so <SteamLibrary-folder> is not a fixed device-wide location. The save may be below the prefix’s Windows-style folders, in a publisher-specific directory, or somewhere else used by the game. The listed prefix is therefore a search boundary, not proof of the final location.

The app ID warning matters: if the released Steam build uses a different ID, searching only 3558670 will miss it. Check the installed game’s Steam properties and the current post-release documentation before copying anything.
PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch 2
Console saves are normally managed by the platform rather than exposed as ordinary user files. No Legacy of Atlantis export or restore instructions are published. Do not attempt to apply a PC file to a console account, or assume that a console cloud copy can be downloaded as a replaceable file, until the platform holder or developer documents that workflow.
What can you prepare before release?
You cannot create a valid Legacy of Atlantis backup before the game creates its own save data, but you can prepare a safe process:
- Create a separate backup location with enough space for several complete save-directory copies.
- Use a date-and-time naming convention such as
Legacy-of-Atlantis-2027-02-12-1830. - Decide where you will keep an additional copy that is not on the same drive as the game.
- Record the platform, game build, and Steam account used for each backup.
- Plan to close the game before every copy and before every restore.
Keeping several generations is safer than maintaining one file called “latest.” If a newly written save is damaged or an unwanted outcome is synchronized, an earlier generation gives you a rollback point.

- Launch the game and create a known save. Note the slot, location, and approximate time so you can identify the data that changed.
- Exit to the desktop or system menu, then quit the game completely. Do not copy while the game is running, paused, or suspended. A live process may still be writing metadata or a temporary file.
- Locate the confirmed save directory. On Windows, use released documentation or a verified technical reference. On Steam Deck/Linux, start under the applicable Proton prefix, but confirm the final subfolder and filenames rather than assuming them.
- Copy the entire save folder. Preserve every file, subfolder, and filename. Do not copy only the slot that appears to contain progress unless documentation explicitly says the game stores slots independently; settings, indexes, checksums, and profile data may be required.
- Paste the copy into a separate backup location. Keep the original directory untouched. Name the backup with the date, time, platform, and build when known.
- Make multiple generations. Create a new dated copy after important milestones instead of replacing the previous backup. Keep at least one copy on a different storage device or location.
- Optionally verify the copy. Compare the folder’s contents and file sizes with the source. If the game or operating system provides a file-integrity or checksum tool, use it to detect an incomplete copy.
- Document the source path. Save a text note beside the backup stating the original location and the build number. This prevents confusion if a later update changes the directory.
A backup is useful only if it can be recognized and restored. Avoid renaming individual game files, opening them in an editor, or compressing them until you know the game accepts that format. If you do archive a folder, retain an unmodified folder copy as well.
How to restore a Legacy of Atlantis save
- Close the game completely. Also close any launcher process that may immediately rewrite the save directory.
- Preserve the current data first. Rename the existing save folder rather than deleting it. For example, append
-pre-restore-2027-02-20. This gives you a way back if the selected backup is wrong. - Choose a dated backup. Select the generation whose platform, build, and progress match your intention. Do not choose solely by filename if several copies were made close together.
- Copy the complete backup folder into the exact original location. Keep the directory structure and filenames unchanged. If the game created a new empty folder after an update, replace its contents only after preserving that folder as the pre-restore copy.
- Start the game and inspect the intended slot. Confirm the character, level, inventory, or other visible progress that identifies the backup. Do not immediately overwrite the backup with a new save.
- Keep the pre-restore folder until verification is complete. Once the restored slot is confirmed, retain the dated backup anyway; it is your rollback copy.
If the game reports corrupted data, returns to a new-game screen, or shows the wrong progress, exit without saving over the restored files. Put the pre-restore directory back, then try a different dated generation or re-check the documented path.
Does Legacy of Atlantis have Steam Cloud?
Steam Cloud support is not confirmed. PCGamingWiki currently provides no affirmative value or notes, and the unreleased build has not supplied an official support statement. Treat local file copies as the only dependable backup method until the released Steam page or developer documentation explicitly describes cloud synchronization.
If Steam displays a cloud-conflict dialog after a restore, stop before selecting an option. Compare the dates and contents of the local restored folder, the pre-restore folder, and the cloud version. Choose the copy that matches the progress you intend to keep. Do not blindly select “download” or “upload,” because either choice can overwrite the only usable version.
After resolving a conflict, launch the game and verify the slot. If the game immediately changes the local files, close it again and make a fresh dated backup of the verified state.

Steam Deck backup and restore checklist
Steam Deck users have two extra variables: the library can be on different storage devices, and Proton prefixes are tied to an app installation. Use this checklist:
- Confirm which Steam library contains the installed game.
- Confirm the current app ID rather than assuming
3558670remains correct. - Search inside the matching
compatdata/<app-id>/pfx/prefix only after creating and closing a known save. - Copy the complete discovered save directory, not the entire prefix unless official instructions require it.
- Keep the backup outside the Proton prefix so uninstalling or recreating the prefix does not remove it.
- Restore with the game closed, preserve the current directory, and verify the slot before making a new save.
No cross-platform compatibility is documented. A save copied from Windows to Steam Deck, or between Steam Deck and Windows, may depend on the same build, account, profile format, or platform-specific data. Test portability with a disposable copy and never use your only backup for the experiment.
Troubleshooting common backup questions
“Where is the save folder on PC?”
No authoritative Windows path has been published. Wait for released documentation or verify the location by recording a known save, closing the game, and identifying the files that changed. A guessed path is not a reliable answer.
“I searched the Proton prefix and found nothing.”
Confirm that the game has created a save, that it is fully closed, that the Steam library is the correct one, and that the app ID is current. The published prefix is generic, and the final save directory may be elsewhere or may use a different app ID after release.

“The restored files are ignored.”
Check that the game was closed during the copy, that you replaced the exact original directory, and that the backup includes all subfolders and metadata. Restore the pre-restore folder if necessary, then test another dated generation.

“The game starts with new progress after I restored.”
Do not save over that state. Exit, preserve the current folder, and verify the account, build, platform, and path. If Steam presents a cloud conflict, compare versions before choosing a synchronization direction.
“Can I move the save between platforms?”
There is no documented cross-platform compatibility claim. A Windows or Steam Deck file should not be assumed to work on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, or Nintendo Switch 2, and vice versa.
What a reliable long-term backup routine looks like
After launch, make a dated copy after major story milestones, before installing a large update, and before experimenting with mods or troubleshooting. Keep the newest copy and several earlier generations. Store at least one copy away from the game drive, and never delete the pre-restore folder until the restored slot has been opened and checked.
