Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIf you already own Ultimechs, create a Steam backup before the announced delisting and multiplayer shutdown on October 20, 2026. In Steam Library, open the game’s Properties, choose Installed Files, and select Backup game files. Copy your saves, settings, and Steam Cloud data separately: the Steam archive is not guaranteed to contain every personal file. You can restore the installation later only while signed in to the Steam account that owns the game, and a restored copy cannot revive multiplayer servers that have been shut down.
What happens to Ultimechs on October 20, 2026
Resolution Games announced that Ultimechs will be delisted from VR platforms on October 20, 2026. The same announcement, reported by UploadVR on October 8, 2026, says multiplayer services are scheduled to shut down that day. The game is expected to remain playable in single-player mode afterward, but that is an announced plan rather than a guarantee that every platform, build, or account will behave identically.

Delisting removes the normal store route for a new purchase or download. It does not turn a backup into a new license. If you already own the game, preserve three separate things while you still can:
- The installed game files: the program, assets, and Steam installation metadata.
- Your local saves and settings: files that may live outside the installation folder.
- Your Steam Cloud data: synchronized files stored in Steam’s user-data directories.
Preserving all three gives you the best chance of running the final available build in single-player after delisting. None of them guarantees access to online matchmaking, account services, or other server-side features.

Ultimechs PC and VR requirements
The Steam listing identifies Resolution Games as both developer and publisher, gives a September 15, 2022 release date, labels the game “VR Only,” and lists SteamVR support. Your replacement or recovery PC should meet at least these listed minimums:
| Component | Listed minimum | Why it matters for recovery |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 | The listed PC build targets Windows; a backup does not make an unsupported operating system compatible. |
| Memory | 8 GB RAM | Use at least this much system memory before troubleshooting launch failures. |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti or AMD Radeon RX 470 class | A GPU below this level may fail to render VR reliably even when the files restore correctly. |
| Graphics API | DirectX 11 | Keep current graphics drivers and DirectX components installed on the replacement system. |
| Storage | 400 MB available | This is the listing’s minimum free space for the game; allow additional room for Steam, saves, shader data, and the backup itself. |
| VR platform | SteamVR-compatible headset | Ultimechs is VR-only, so a conventional monitor and keyboard are not a substitute for a compatible headset and runtime. |
These are the published minimums, not a promise of identical performance on every headset or driver version. Install SteamVR and pair the headset before judging whether a restored copy works.
Which preservation method should you use?
Steam’s built-in backup is the safest starting point for an installed game that was downloaded, installed, and patched completely through Steam. It packages the game for Steam’s own restore workflow. It does not replace a personal-file backup, and it cannot preserve a server that no longer exists.

| Method | Preserves | Requires an existing entitlement? | Includes saves and settings? | Works after delisting? | Online-service dependency |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Steam Backup game files | Steam-managed installation files | Yes, for restoration | Not guaranteed; copy them separately | Potentially, if the backup is valid and the owning account can authenticate | Cannot restore multiplayer servers |
| Manual installation-folder copy | Files currently present in the game folder | Yes; Steam still needs to recognize the owner | Usually no, unless you copy those folders too | May help with file preservation, but lacks Steam’s restore metadata | Cannot replace server-side services |
| Steam Cloud/user-data copy | Cloud-synchronized and local profile data in Steam’s user-data tree | The account and Steam ID are needed to use it normally | Potentially, depending on what the game synchronizes | Useful alongside an installation backup, not a replacement for one | Cloud synchronization itself may be unavailable later |
For the strongest recovery set, make the Steam backup, then make an independent copy of the relevant local and Cloud data to another drive. Keeping only one copy leaves you exposed to a failed archive, disk damage, or an interrupted transfer.
Back up Ultimechs with Steam’s official tool
1. Finish updates and close the game
- Start Steam and let any pending Ultimechs update finish.
- Launch the game once if you need to confirm that the current installation works, then exit it.
- Wait for Steam to finish writing downloads, cloud synchronization, or shader processing. Do not begin the backup while Steam is still patching.
2. Create the archive
- Open Library in Steam.
- Right-click Ultimechs and choose Properties.
- Open Installed Files.
- Select Backup game files.
- Choose a destination on a separate physical drive when possible. An external USB SSD or hard drive is suitable as a destination; do not rely on the same internal disk that contains the live installation.
- Confirm the backup and allow Steam to complete it without putting the computer to sleep or disconnecting the destination.
Steam’s backup utility is designed for titles that completely download, install, and patch through Steam. Installers or downloaders supplied by third parties can be incompatible with this workflow. If Steam does not offer the backup option or reports that files cannot be backed up, preserve the installation folder and personal data manually as an additional measure, but do not assume a manual copy has the same restore metadata as Steam’s archive.
3. Verify and duplicate the backup
- Open the destination and confirm that Steam created the backup files rather than an empty folder or a shortcut.
- Record the backup date, the source computer, the Steam library location, and the Windows account used.
- Copy the completed archive to a second drive or other independent storage. A second copy protects against a failed disk or a damaged first transfer.
- Keep the destination connected long enough to check that files can be read. Do not rename individual files inside the archive.
Steam explicitly recommends testing backups because an interruption or another application using the files can produce an unusable archive. The most convincing test is a restore to a spare library or replacement PC while you still have time to correct a bad copy.

Save local files and settings separately
A Steam game archive is not a universal snapshot of every file created while you play. Developers choose their own save and configuration locations, and Steam advises checking the game’s community or developer documentation for those paths. No verified Ultimechs-specific save location is established here, so do not delete a folder merely because it is not inside the Steam game directory.

- Exit Ultimechs.
- Exit Steam completely, rather than leaving it minimized in the notification area.
- Copy the entire Ultimechs installation folder to separate storage as a second, plainly labeled safety copy. This is supplementary to the official Steam archive.
- Search your user profile for folders or files created or modified when the game runs. Preserve configuration, profile, and save files without moving the originals until the backup is verified.
- Write down the original paths and copy dates. A path record makes it possible to put files back in the same location after restoration.
Do not publish or rely on an assumed AppData, Documents, or game-specific path for this title. If Resolution Games later documents a definitive location, use that instruction; until then, preserve the relevant user-data folders broadly enough to avoid deleting an unknown save location.
Copy Steam Cloud data from its local cache
Steam documents these default local locations for user data:

| Operating system | Default Steam user-data path |
|---|---|
| Windows | C:Program Files (x86)Steamuserdata |
| macOS | ~/Library/Application Support/Steam/userdata |

Inside userdata, Steam account IDs contain folders organized by app ID. The app-ID folder is not identified in the available listing information, so do not guess a folder by name. Instead, note which folders change immediately after you save in the game, or preserve the complete userdata directory if storage allows.
Cloud-copy checklist
- Run the game, make a small test save, exit the game, and wait for Steam to finish synchronization.
- Close Steam before copying the user-data directory so files are not changing during the transfer.
- Copy the relevant account and app-data folders to separate storage, retaining the original directory structure.
- Label the copy with the Steam account, computer, operating system, and date.
- Keep the Cloud copy alongside, but separate from, the Steam game archive. Cloud data alone is not an installation.
If Steam shows a synchronization conflict, stop and resolve it before uninstalling. Choosing the wrong version can overwrite a newer local save with an older Cloud copy.
Restore the game after delisting
Restoration is for an account that already owns Ultimechs. Steam’s restore process requires you to sign in to that owning account; a backup does not grant a person who never purchased the game a new entitlement. The available announcements do not promise that someone who never owned the title can obtain it after delisting.

Steam restore steps
- Install Steam on the replacement or repaired Windows PC and sign in to the account that owns Ultimechs.
- Connect the drive containing the completed Steam backup.
- Open the Steam client menu and choose Restore Game Backup….
- Browse to the backup files and select them.
- Follow Steam’s prompts for the destination library and let the restore finish without interrupting it.
- Install or launch SteamVR, connect the compatible headset, and start the restored game from Library.
If Steam asks to download files, allow it to verify the installation rather than canceling immediately. A small verification or prerequisite download does not necessarily mean the archive failed. If the client says files are missing, compare the archive with the duplicate copy and repeat the restore from the intact set.
Put personal data back
- Exit the game and Steam after the restore completes.
- Re-create the original user-data and configuration paths you recorded.
- Copy your preserved saves and settings into those paths, keeping a temporary backup of any newly generated files.
- Restart Steam, allow any Cloud prompt to settle, and launch the game.
- Check that your profile and single-player progress appear before deleting any newly created files.
What a successful restore cannot do
- It cannot create a license. The account used for restoration must already own the game.
- It cannot restore multiplayer. Once the announced multiplayer shutdown takes effect, local files cannot recreate matchmaking, servers, authentication endpoints, or other remote infrastructure.
- It cannot guarantee future single-player behavior. Single-player is expected to remain playable, but the post-delisting result depends on the final build and platform behavior.
- It cannot guarantee Cloud synchronization. A local copy of Cloud data is useful, but synchronization requires Steam services and the correct account.
- It cannot make unsupported hardware work. The restored files still need Windows 10, a compatible GPU, DirectX 11, SteamVR, and a suitable headset.
Troubleshoot common backup and reinstall failures
Steam does not show “Backup game files”
- Confirm that you are viewing the installed game: Library → right-click Ultimechs → Properties → Installed Files.
- Finish pending downloads and verify that the title was installed and patched through Steam.
- If a third-party installer supplied part of the game, use a manual installation-folder copy as an additional preservation step; Steam’s utility may not support that installation.
The backup stops or is reported as corrupt
- Re-run it with Steam and the game closed.
- Use a destination with more free space than the listed 400 MB game size; the archive requires its own working room.
- Disconnect applications that scan, lock, or continuously synchronize the destination.
- Copy the archive to a second drive and test the duplicate rather than repeatedly trusting the first failed copy.
The restore completes but the game will not launch
- Confirm that Windows 10 or later, current graphics drivers, DirectX 11 components, Steam, and SteamVR are installed.
- Connect and configure the headset before launching because the title is VR-only.
- Check that the restored library is on a drive with sufficient free space and that Steam is signed in to the owning account.
- Restore the personal settings only after testing a clean launch; an incompatible old configuration can prevent startup.
Your saves are missing
- Exit the game and Steam, then restore the separately copied local and Steam Cloud data.
- Use the path record made before uninstalling instead of guessing an AppData or Documents folder.
- Resolve any Steam Cloud conflict carefully, keeping both versions until you confirm which contains the newest progress.
Multiplayer buttons stop working
This is consistent with the announced service shutdown and is not a defect that reinstalling can fix. Test the restored single-player mode instead; its continued operation is expected, not guaranteed.
Quick Recap
Final preservation checklist
- Complete the Steam backup before the delisting deadline if you already own the game.
- Store two copies on separate physical storage.
- Record the Steam account, computer, library path, operating system, and backup date.
- Copy local saves, settings, and the Steam
userdatadata separately. - Keep the original files until a restore test succeeds.
- Retain a Windows 10-capable PC, SteamVR installation, compatible GPU, and VR headset for future play.
- Expect multiplayer to end with the announced service shutdown; preserve files for single-player, not as a way to recreate online services.
