To check whether a GTA 6 screenshot or trailer is genuine, compare it with Rockstar’s official GTA VI media page and treat anything not listed there as unverified—not automatically fake. Be especially wary of links promising a demo, early access, or a leaked download: documented scams have used those lures to steal browser data or cryptocurrency, not deliver the game.
Where to check official GTA 6 videos
Open Rockstar’s GTA VI media page directly rather than relying on a search result, repost, thumbnail, or social-media caption. The page currently lists Trailer 1, Trailer 2, the Extended Look, clips, and other official media. If a post claims to show a new trailer or clip, check whether Rockstar has published it there or announced it through an official channel.

A match can help verify that a video is official; a mismatch does not by itself prove that a post is fabricated. It may be a fan edit, recycled footage, or an unverified claim. Malwarebytes reported that AI-generated and recycled footage was being presented on social media as fresh leaks during the August 2026 leak cycle. That context is a reason to verify claims, not a basis for declaring every circulating image or video fake.

There is no reliable visual shortcut that establishes who created or published a screenshot. Convincing artwork, logos, characters, and accurate release details can be copied or combined with false claims. Compare the image with Rockstar’s official media and announcements, and look for the original source rather than treating a repost or search snippet as proof.

- If the image is presented as a frame from an official trailer, compare it with the trailer on Rockstar’s media page.
- If it is called a new screenshot, ask whether Rockstar has published it through an official channel. If not, label it unverified rather than confirmed.
- Do not use a screenshot’s polished appearance, apparent interface, or accompanying release details as proof of authenticity.
Is there a GTA 6 demo or leaked download?
Malwarebytes wrote on August 24, 2026, “Rockstar has not announced or released a demo of Grand Theft Auto VI.” That statement reflects the date of its report, not a guarantee about future announcements; check Rockstar’s latest official announcements for changes.
Malwarebytes documented fake sites impersonating Rockstar with a supposed demo or extended look. In the campaign it examined, a “Play Now” link led to an information stealer disguised as gta6_installer.exe. The malware sought browser data including saved passwords, session cookies, and browsing history. A separate report described a purported leaked-copy offer that loaded cryptocurrency-stealing code. The page mixed accurate-looking game information and artwork with contradictory purchase claims.

Do not download surprise demos, early-access builds, or leaked copies. A page can borrow genuine images and facts while directing visitors to a malicious download, credential prompt, or wallet-draining code. Two-step verification is useful, but it is not a guarantee if a stolen authenticated browser session can be reused.

Can a fake trailer link steal your account?
Yes. A link attached to a trailer, screenshot, giveaway, or supposed early-access offer can lead to a phishing page that imitates Rockstar or another service. Rockstar warns about phishing emails, social engineering, and third-party services requesting account information. Its account-protection guidance recommends checking email domains and links, protecting credentials, enabling 2-step verification, and watching for suspicious account changes.

- Check the destination before opening it. Inspect the domain and link, especially in messages that urge you to act quickly. A familiar logo, copied design, or plausible address in a post does not verify the destination.
- Do not enter credentials on a page reached through an unsolicited offer. Do not give a third party your password, QR code, PIN, or 2-step verification code. Rockstar specifically warns against sharing passwords and security codes or using third-party services that ask for account information.
- Protect the account. Rockstar says 2-Step Verification adds an extra layer of protection and calls it “the best way to secure your account.” Enable it in your Rockstar account settings, and monitor for unfamiliar logins, unauthorized email changes, or changes to connected accounts.
- Protect the device. Keep the operating system, browser, apps, and anti-malware software updated. Avoid opening unexpected attachments or running files offered as game builds.
- Report suspicious activity. Contact Rockstar Support if you see account changes or activity you did not authorize, and follow its current account-recovery instructions.
How to check a GTA 6 purchase offer
Use Rockstar’s current platform and editions information and a legitimate platform storefront or retailer when evaluating a purchase. Rockstar currently lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Its page says a physical box contains a digital download code, not a disc, and advises buying from a retailer in the country associated with the player’s platform account to avoid activation problems. It also describes regional restrictions for PlayStation codes.
Those details can help you spot a mismatch, but matching them does not prove that a seller or offer is legitimate. Verify the retailer and destination independently; do not trust a supposed leaked-copy offer just because it uses accurate platform or game information.
