Why won’t The Witcher 3 launch on PC?
First confirm that your PC meets the game’s system requirements. CD PROJEKT RED’s launch troubleshooting guidance recommends these next steps; they are checks, not guaranteed fixes:

- Reinstall your graphics-card drivers.
- Uninstall and reinstall the Microsoft Visual C++ redistributables. The publisher’s instructions call for removing existing redistributables first. Because these are shared Windows components, take care when uninstalling them.
- Close unnecessary programs, especially overlays, then try the game again.
- Try starting Windows with a clean boot to check whether another program is interfering.
If the problem continues, report it to support and include any error message shown. For possible corrupted or missing game data, verify the installation files as described below.

Verify the game files
CD PROJEKT RED says corrupted files can cause crashes, graphical glitches, or failure to launch. Use the repair option for the store where you installed the PC game. The exact menu labels are from the publisher’s file-verification instructions:

Why does REDlauncher not open?
REDlauncher has its own troubleshooting path; these steps address launcher problems, not every kind of game crash. CD PROJEKT RED’s REDlauncher guidance recommends:

Why can’t I save my game on PC?
If the game runs but cannot write a local save, check whether Windows security software is blocking access to the folder used for saves. CD PROJEKT RED’s PC save troubleshooting article specifically points to Controlled folder access and names Windows Defender and Bitdefender.

- In Windows Defender, check Controlled folder access and whether The Witcher 3 is allowed to access protected folders.
- In Bitdefender, check its corresponding protected-folder or application-access settings and allow the game if it has been blocked.
This check is for local save-writing failures. It does not diagnose a missing cloud save or establish that an existing save file is intact.
Why won’t my cross-progression save load or appear?
Cross-progression uses a CD PROJEKT RED account to sync saves through the cloud. Follow the setup in the publisher’s cross-progression instructions, then check the likely mismatches below.

- Update the game on both platforms.
- From Load Game, use the Cross Progression control and connect the game to your CD PROJEKT RED account.
- Leave cross-progression enabled under Options → Gameplay if you want it available.
- Create a save on the first platform. Check for the cloud icon, which indicates that the save has uploaded.
- Connect the other platform to the same CD PROJEKT RED account and look for the save under Load Game.
The cloud stores the latest save for each save type. If the expected save is absent or will not load, compare the account, game content, and mods:

- Account and upload: confirm that both platforms use the same account and that you created a save that uploaded.
- Expansions and DLC: a save made in the base game without expansions can load in Complete Edition. The reverse may fail if the base-game installation does not include all expansions or DLC used by the Complete Edition save. See CD PROJEKT RED’s cross-progression save compatibility guidance.
- Mods: the same set of mods needs to be enabled on both platforms. A missing or incompatible mod on the receiving platform can prevent a save from loading correctly. When moving a save between PC and console, check the mod page for the “Available on consoles” tag. The publisher’s cross-platform mod instructions cover this requirement.
How do I fix a Witcher 3 mod crash, broken quest, or UI problem?
Mods can cause crashes or launch failures, quest progression problems, and missing or incorrect interface elements. A mod’s effects can also remain in a save after the mod is disabled, so preserve your saves before changing your setup.

- Open the in-game Mods menu and disable or unsubscribe from the installed mod you suspect. Check whether the problem remains.
- If it does, try loading a save from before you used that mod. Avoid overwriting an earlier working save while troubleshooting.
- Keep mods updated, especially after a game update. If you installed third-party PC mods outside the in-game menu, follow CD PROJEKT RED’s clean-install procedure rather than assuming that switching off an in-game mod removes those files.
- Report issues rooted in player-created content to the mod creator or through the mod’s reporting route. The game developer says it cannot directly manage or resolve problems caused by player-created mods.
CD PROJEKT RED advises: “We advise against installing mods that alter quest structure mid-playthrough.” Its in-game mod troubleshooting guidance also explains that mod effects can persist in saves.
Using the in-game Mods menu
The official in-game Mods feature is powered by mod.io and is documented as available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Installing mods requires a CD PROJEKT RED account connected to mod.io. Subscribe to a mod from the Mods menu and restart the game; check the Installed list and its checkbox to confirm whether the mod is enabled.
- On consoles, trophies and achievements are disabled on modded save files. A save created with mods enabled is treated as modded and displays a mod.io cog icon.
- Offline play can load a modded save if all its required mods are already installed. You cannot install missing mods while offline.
