Build a reliable archive record
A screenshot is more useful when you can identify what it captured and when. Keep the original image alongside a small record for each capture.
- Record the exact URL and the capture time in UTC.
- Decide deliberately between a viewport image and a full-page image.
- For visual comparisons, keep the viewport or device size consistent between runs.
- Store images in durable storage or a repository appropriate to your retention needs, and use a predictable naming or indexing scheme so you can retrieve them.
- For evidence-oriented records, preserve the original image and its metadata. A checksum can help detect later file changes; a screenshot alone does not establish legal admissibility.

- Choose a capture interval and list the URLs to archive.
- Have a scheduler trigger the screenshot request at that interval.
- Save each returned image to durable storage without overwriting earlier captures.
- Record the URL, UTC timestamp, and a checksum alongside the image, then index the record for retrieval.
- Test a full-page capture and confirm that the stored image and its metadata can be retrieved before relying on the schedule.
Use Screenshot.rocks for presentation
- Open the desired page in Chrome or Edge and navigate to the content you want to show.
- Click the Screenshot.rocks extension button to capture the visible part of the active tab.
- In the editor tab, choose a frame and background if you want a mockup-style presentation.
- Export the image. For a full-page image, capture the page with a separate full-page-capable tool first and import that image into the editor.

You cannot find an older capture
Screenshot.rocks does not store the screenshot. Save exports to storage you control, or select a service whose current retention and export behavior meet your needs. In an API workflow, index each image by URL and UTC capture time.
Comparisons look inconsistent
Check whether the captures use the same viewport or device size and the same full-page-versus-viewport setting. Record those settings with the capture metadata when consistency matters.
