To archive one webpage, open the Internet Archive’s Save Page Now, enter its URL, submit it, and keep the snapshot link it returns. This saves a single submitted page—not an entire website or all the links on that page.
How do I save a page to the Wayback Machine?
- Open the Save Page Now form.
- Enter the full URL of the webpage you want to preserve, then submit it.
- Wait for the capture to finish. Copy and retain the resulting archived URL so you can revisit, share, or cite that specific snapshot.
The Internet Archive Help Center describes the process simply: “Put a URL into the form, press the button, and we save the page.” It describes the returned snapshot as having a permanent URL; that is the service’s description, not a guarantee that every capture will remain accessible in every circumstance. What does Save Page Now capture?
A submission is for one URL. The Internet Archive says a capture can include the page’s images and CSS, but it does not follow outlinks, capture multiple pages, or start a crawl of the website. Submitting a URL also does not add it to future crawls. Treat a snapshot as a preserved reference to one page, not as a site backup. Save Pages in the Wayback Machine; Using The Wayback Machine
Can I save an entire website to the Wayback Machine?
Not with a single Save Page Now submission. To preserve several pages, submit each URL separately; that still is not a comprehensive crawl. For organizations that need recurring collection-scale crawling, the Internet Archive offers Archive-It, a paid subscription service with technical and web-archivist support. It is generally more than an individual needs to save one page. Archive-It

What if the snapshot fails or looks incomplete?
A submitted URL may not be captured, and a successful capture may not replay exactly as the live page did. The Internet Archive lists crawling prohibitions and some SSL or security settings as reasons a submission can fail. Its Wayback Machine FAQ also identifies robots.txt restrictions, owner-requested exclusions, password-protected or otherwise inaccessible pages, JavaScript-dependent behavior, server-side dependencies, and orphan pages as possible reasons for incomplete or unavailable replay. If images are missing, their files may not have been archived. Save Pages in the Wayback Machine; Using The Wayback Machine
- The save does not complete: Check that the URL is reachable without a login and try submitting it again. Restrictions or security settings on the site may prevent capture.
- The archived page is missing images or styles: Some resources may not have been captured. The saved page is not necessarily a complete copy of every file it used.
- Interactive content behaves differently: Pages dependent on JavaScript or server-side services may not replay as they did when live.
- You need more than one page: Submit the additional URLs individually, or investigate a collection crawling service if this is an ongoing organizational need.
Is the browser extension an alternative?
The Internet Archive’s official Wayback Machine extension provides Save Page Now and archive-history features. Its repository lists Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari 14. The repository says Save Page Now can work while logged out, with additional options when logged in; availability of optional features depends on settings and login state. The extension’s current page says Auto Save Page must be enabled and requires login, so do not assume automatic saving is active by default. Extension repository; Official extension page
Review the extension’s privacy policy and settings before installing or enabling automatic features. The policy says it checks HTTP/S status codes for visited URLs by default; Private Mode can turn off those checks. It also says URLs used with “Save To My Web Archive” can be associated with your Internet Archive account, and collected URLs may be retained as long as they provide value to the Archive’s mission. How should I cite an archived webpage?
Cite the original webpage as you normally would, then add the Wayback Machine information so a reader can identify the specific archived copy. The Internet Archive’s Help Center reproduces guidance it attributes to MLA: “You should cite the webpage as you would normally, and then give the Wayback Machine information.” It says there is no established format for these resources and recommends including more identifying information rather than less. If the original update date is unavailable, the Help Center says a nearby Wayback date may be used. Using The Wayback Machine

Or skip the browser setup
For a screenshot of a live page rather than a Wayback Machine archive, ScreenshotNeo can return an image or PDF with one API request. It is not a substitute for an Internet Archive snapshot or a whole-site backup. Cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets are removed before capture; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed; and an MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. Here is a cURL example:
