That creates a copy on your device; it does not automatically add the page to the Wayback Machine or make it public. The right method depends on whether you need a private record, a shareable snapshot, or an organization-wide archive.
Choose the kind of archive you need

Consider who should be able to see the result, whether you need one page or a collection, what login method the site uses, and whether images, attachments, or dynamic behavior matter. A saved file or web archive is not necessarily a complete reproduction.

Save a private copy from your signed-in browser
- Sign in and open the page. Confirm that the content you want is visible in the browser. A separate service receiving the URL should not be assumed to inherit your browser’s login session.
- Save or print the page, or capture a screenshot. Use the browser’s available print/save controls to make a PDF or another local copy, or use its screenshot capability. Exact menu labels vary by browser and device.
- Use a recognizable filename. Include a short description and, if useful, the date so you can identify the file later.
- Open the result and verify it. Check all pages, images, and other material you need. Scroll through the original page first if content appears only as you move down; interactive elements may not work in a static file.
This method is usually the clearest option for sensitive account, financial, employment, or personal information because the copy remains on your device unless you choose to share or upload it. Follow the site’s rules and your organization’s retention policy.
Can the Wayback Machine archive a page behind a login?
Do not expect Save Page Now to capture the authenticated view simply because you submit the page’s URL. Submitting a URL creates a new request from a crawler; it does not send along your signed-in browser state. The Internet Archive says password-protected pages can be absent because automated systems cannot access them. Its Save Page Now service accepts a URL for a single-page capture, but some captures fail and it does not start a whole-site crawl or save outlinks. If you need to submit a public snapshot, use Save Page Now only for content the crawler can access. Afterward, check the archived result: the Internet Archive notes that missing images or JavaScript-dependent behavior can leave a capture incomplete.
When Archive-It may fit an organization
For institutional preservation of recurring collections, Archive-It documents a way to crawl and replay some password-protected pages. The credentials are entered in seed settings and used in a subsequent crawl. Its Help Center says the method is compatible with traditional username/password authentication, but not with two-step authentication, split username/password fields, password-only sites without a username, CAPTCHA, or specialty certificates. Archive-It is described by the Internet Archive as a subscription service for organizations with a regular web-archiving mandate, rather than a substitute for saving one personal page. Do not provide credentials unless you are authorized to do so and the site’s rules permit the access.

Check the result before relying on it
- Confirm the file or archived replay opens and includes the specific text, images, and attachments you need.
- Check whether the capture is private, shared, or publicly accessible before storing sensitive material.
- For a public archive, confirm the page was actually captured; a submitted URL is not proof of success.
- For legal, compliance, or evidentiary use, do not assume a PDF or archived snapshot is certified evidence. The Internet Archive says the Wayback Machine was not expressly designed for legal use and points users to a separate affidavit process.

Can a browser-saved PDF prove what a website showed at a particular time?
A PDF is a copy you saved, not automatically certified evidence. For legal or evidentiary use, check the applicable requirements; the Internet Archive identifies a separate affidavit process for Wayback Machine material.
