Start with the audited, consolidated FY2025-26 statements, then treat the unaudited Q1 FY2026-27 filing as a separate comparison set. For group performance, consolidated figures are the primary view; standalone statements are useful when you need to assess parent-company liquidity.
The FY2025-26 statements show consolidated revenue from operations of ₹4,660.70 crore, PAT of ₹755.07 crore and net cash from operations of ₹382.00 crore. Those figures cannot be judged in isolation: segment mix, finance costs, working capital and a ₹963.81 crore investing outflow materially affect the interpretation.

1. Lock the period, scope and accounting status before comparing anything
Quarterly analysis goes wrong when numbers from different periods or reporting bases are mixed. Write the period and scope beside every figure in your worksheet. The audited FY2025-26 consolidated results cover the year ended 31 March 2026 and include the fourth quarter. The Q1 FY2026-27 consolidated filing is unaudited. Use consolidated figures for the group’s operating performance, and reconcile to standalone figures only when the question concerns the parent company’s own cash, borrowings or distributions.
| Data set | Status and scope | Revenue from operations | What it is useful for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Q4 FY2025-26 | Audited, consolidated | ₹1,287.76 crore (₹1,28,776 lakh) | Quarter-end performance and comparison with prior audited quarters |
| FY2025-26 | Audited, consolidated | ₹4,660.70 crore (₹4,66,070 lakh) | Full-year margins, cash flow, debt and segment analysis |
| Q1 FY2026-27 | Unaudited, consolidated | ₹1,431.88 crore (₹1,43,188 lakh) | Most recent quarter, clearly labelled as unaudited |
| 9M FY26 commentary | Management investor release dated 16 January 2026 | EBITDA and PAT disclosed, rather than a complete filed income statement | Cross-checking management’s narrative against filed numbers |
Keep quarter-on-quarter (QoQ), year-on-year (YoY) and year-to-date (YTD) comparisons separate. A Q1 figure should be compared with the immediately preceding quarter only if seasonality and the company’s reporting calendar make that comparison meaningful; a YoY comparison normally uses the same quarter of the prior financial year. Do not compare an unaudited quarter with an audited annual number without stating the difference in assurance.

2. Build a revenue bridge instead of stopping at the headline number
Revenue tells you the size of the business, not the reason it changed. Build the bridge in this order:
- Start with revenue from operations. Use the statement line, not total income if other income is material.
- Calculate QoQ, YoY and YTD changes. Show both the absolute change and percentage change.
- Separate realization from volume. Ask whether tonnes or units sold changed, whether selling prices moved, and whether the product mix shifted.
- Remove inter-segment duplication. Group revenue should not double-count sales between reportable segments.
- Check currency and commodity effects. If export sales or input-linked pricing are important, identify the effect rather than attributing all movement to demand.
The Q4 FY2025-26 consolidated revenue line is ₹1,287.76 crore, while the full-year figure is ₹4,660.70 crore. The Q1 FY2026-27 filing reports ₹1,431.88 crore. These values establish the scale and period, but they do not by themselves prove volume-led growth. A higher quarterly revenue can result from more volume, higher prices, a richer mix, foreign-exchange translation or a combination of those factors.
How to test volume-led versus price-led growth
Use a simple decomposition when the filing or management commentary supplies physical volumes and average realization:
Revenue change ≈ (current volume − prior volume) × prior realization + (current realization − prior realization) × current volume + mix and other effects
If physical volumes are not disclosed, say so. Do not infer volume growth from revenue growth alone. Compare production, capacity utilization, dispatches and inventory movements where those are reported. A revenue increase alongside falling volumes and sharply higher realization is price-led; a similar realization with higher dispatches is more consistent with volume-led growth. Segment-level data is especially important because a small, high-value product can lift realization without broad-based volume growth.
3. Analyze margins through the full cost bridge
A single EBITDA or PAT percentage can hide the reason profitability changed. Reconcile revenue through each major cost line:

- Revenue from operations
- Material and input costs
- Changes in inventories of finished and semi-finished goods
- Employee benefits
- Other operating expenses
- EBITDA, if disclosed or calculated on a consistent basis
- Depreciation and amortisation
- Finance costs
- Exceptional items and foreign-exchange gains or losses, where applicable
- Profit before tax
- Tax expense
- Profit after tax
For FY2025-26, consolidated profit before tax was ₹1,000.90 crore (₹1,00,090 lakh), PAT was ₹755.07 crore (₹75,507 lakh), and finance cost was ₹64.37 crore (₹6,437 lakh). On the reported revenue base, that is approximately a 21.5% PBT margin and a 16.2% PAT margin. The percentages are calculated from the consolidated annual figures and should not be mixed with standalone margins or a quarter-only denominator.

EBITDA excludes depreciation, finance costs and tax, so it is useful for comparing operating performance across periods with different capital structures. It is not a substitute for cash flow or PAT. State exactly how you calculate it: if EBITDA is not printed in the statement, add back depreciation and finance costs to profit before tax only after checking for exceptional items and non-operating income. Keep foreign-exchange effects and other income consistently classified.
The 16 January 2026 investor release reported nine-month FY26 consolidated EBITDA of ₹725.83 crore, up about 18% year on year, and nine-month PAT of ₹547.54 crore, up 37% year on year. It also reported Q3 FY26 EBITDA of ₹252.73 crore and PAT of ₹192.04 crore. These are management-released figures for the periods identified, not a replacement for the audited annual reconciliation. Use the release to form a hypothesis, then verify the corresponding statement lines and notes.
Read the gap between PBT and PAT
The difference between PBT and PAT reflects tax and any items below PBT. A rising PBT with a slower PAT increase can indicate a higher effective tax rate, while PAT growing faster than PBT may reflect a lower tax rate or one-off tax effects. Calculate the effective tax rate as tax expense divided by PBT and investigate unusual changes in deferred tax, tax credits or exceptional items. Do not call a lower tax charge a permanent improvement without evidence that the underlying rate has changed.
4. Use segment data to find the real growth engine
Group revenue can conceal divergent businesses. For FY2025-26, reported segment revenue before inter-segment elimination was:

Carbon materials and chemicals dominate the reported mix, so changes in that segment’s utilization, pricing, input costs and capacity additions will usually have the largest effect on consolidated results. Do not assume the largest segment is automatically the fastest-growing or most profitable. Compare each segment’s growth rate, operating profit, margin and capital employed. A smaller segment can create meaningful incremental profit if its margin or return on capital is materially higher.
Questions to ask for each segment
- Did revenue rise because of volume, realization, product mix or acquisitions?
- Did segment profit grow faster or slower than revenue?
- Are costs linked to coal, energy, freight or other commodities moving with selling prices?
- How much capital is tied up in inventory, receivables and new capacity?
- Are inter-segment sales material enough to distort comparisons?
5. Measure debt and liquidity separately
Debt is a balance-sheet stock at a date; liquidity is the ability to meet obligations when they fall due. At 31 March 2026, the consolidated balance sheet reported cash and cash equivalents of ₹164.76 crore (₹16,476 lakh) and other bank balances of ₹570.71 crore (₹57,071 lakh). Non-current borrowings were ₹4.45 crore (₹445 lakh) and current borrowings were ₹762.11 crore (₹76,211 lakh).
| Calculation | Amount | Interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| Gross borrowings = non-current + current | ₹766.56 crore | Debt before cash offsets |
| Cash and other bank balances | ₹735.47 crore | Reported balances; availability must be checked in the notes |
| Illustrative net debt = gross borrowings − reported balances | ₹31.09 crore | Valid only if all included balances are unrestricted and readily usable |
Do not automatically treat every bank balance as free cash. Read the notes for margin money, pledged deposits, customer advances, statutory restrictions, earmarked funds and maturity dates. A conservative net-debt calculation may exclude restricted or operationally required balances. State your definition every time you publish net debt.

Use the same EBITDA period and definition when calculating net debt/EBITDA. A year-end net debt figure divided by a nine-month EBITDA figure is a mismatched ratio unless you clearly annualize and explain the limitation. The available management release gives nine-month FY26 EBITDA, but a complete audited full-year EBITDA denominator is not stated in the supplied figures. Therefore, do not present a precise FY2025-26 net-debt/EBITDA multiple without first deriving EBITDA from the audited statement and notes.
Interest coverage can be calculated as EBIT divided by finance cost, or EBITDA divided by finance cost, but label the convention. Also check whether finance cost includes lease interest, unwinding of discounts or exchange differences. Current borrowings deserve more attention than the headline net-debt number because refinancing, working-capital limits and covenant tests can create liquidity pressure even when reported net debt is low.
6. Reconcile profit to operating cash flow
Profit quality is tested by cash generated from operations, not by PAT alone. FY2025-26 net cash from operating activities was ₹382.00 crore (₹38,200 lakh). Investing cash flow was a net outflow of ₹963.81 crore (₹96,381 lakh), including ₹449.71 crore (₹44,971 lakh) spent on property, plant and equipment. Financing activities included ₹433.97 crore (₹43,397 lakh) of borrowing proceeds and ₹67.10 crore (₹6,710 lakh) of interest paid.

Calculate operating-cash conversion
For the full year, operating-cash conversion on the reported figures is:
Operating-cash conversion = net cash from operations ÷ PAT
Using ₹382.00 crore of operating cash and ₹755.07 crore of PAT gives approximately 50.6%. That is a first diagnostic, not a final verdict. Explain the gap by reading the cash-flow reconciliation and balance-sheet movements.
Find the working-capital causes
- Receivables: rising trade receivables consume cash even when revenue and PAT increase. Calculate receivable days using average receivables where available.
- Inventory: stock built for growth can be sensible, but excess or slow-moving inventory ties up funds and may lead to write-downs.
- Payables: longer supplier credit supports cash temporarily; a reversal can depress the next quarter’s operating cash.
- Other current assets and liabilities: advances, taxes and contract balances can create large one-off movements.
Separate maintenance capex from growth capex
The ₹449.71 crore property, plant and equipment spend is a total, not a published split between maintenance and expansion. Compare it with depreciation, capacity plans and management’s project descriptions before calling it growth investment. A useful measure is free cash flow after capital expenditure, but state whether you subtract all property, plant and equipment purchases or only estimated maintenance capex. With the reported operating cash and total investing outflow, internal cash did not cover the year’s full investment program; financing and opening cash balances therefore matter to the liquidity story.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.7. Test management commentary against the filings
Management commentary is valuable when it explains the numbers and identifies leading indicators, but attribution and date matter. In the investor release dated 16 January 2026, Anurag Choudhary, CMD and CEO, said: “Himadri Speciality Chemical Ltd is delighted to report another quarter of resilient performance and meaningful progress in Q3 & 9MFY26.” The same release reported nine-month EBITDA of ₹725.83 crore, approximately 18% higher year on year, and PAT of ₹547.54 crore, 37% higher.
Recommended Free Tools
Test each assertion in three passes:
- Arithmetic: reconcile the release’s EBITDA and PAT to the corresponding quarterly or YTD statement lines.
- Operational cause: look for evidence in volumes, realization, segment mix, utilization and input costs that supports the claimed improvement.
- Cash and balance sheet: check whether receivables, inventory, capex and borrowings move consistently with the earnings story.
Words such as “resilient,” “strong” or “meaningful progress” are descriptions, not metrics. Translate them into measurable changes in margin, cash conversion, leverage or return on capital.

8. A repeatable quarterly analysis workflow
- Download the filing and mark the period. Record quarter end, filing date, audited or unaudited status, and consolidated or standalone scope.
- Enter the income statement. Capture revenue from operations, each major expense, EBITDA if disclosed, depreciation, finance cost, PBT, tax and PAT.
- Compute comparable margins. Use the same numerator and denominator across periods and document treatment of exceptional and foreign-exchange items.
- Build the revenue bridge. Add volume, realization, mix, currency and inter-segment explanations only when supported by disclosures.
- Extract segment data. Compare revenue, profit and capital employed; remove inter-segment duplication.
- Read the balance sheet. Record cash, bank balances, current and non-current borrowings, receivables, inventory and payables.
- Calculate liquidity metrics. Show gross debt, the cash definition, net debt and maturities; flag restricted balances.
- Reconcile cash flow. Start with operating cash, identify working-capital drivers, then separate capex, acquisitions, borrowing and shareholder distributions.
- Read the notes. Look for contingencies, pledges, related-party balances, exceptional items, tax disputes and accounting-policy changes.
- Write the conclusion by evidence strength. Distinguish what the filing proves, what management claims and what remains unestablished.
9. Common analytical mistakes and how to avoid them
Mixing consolidated and standalone numbers
A parent-only PAT or debt figure cannot be compared directly with consolidated revenue. Put the scope in every table heading and footnote.
Calling revenue growth volume growth
Without dispatch or production data, describe the result as revenue growth and identify the missing volume evidence. Price and mix can produce the same headline increase.
Using EBITDA as cash flow
EBITDA ignores working capital, taxes, interest and capital expenditure. Always place it beside operating cash and free-cash-flow measures, not in their place.
Netting all bank balances against debt
Restricted deposits and earmarked balances may not be available for repayment. Recalculate net debt after reading the relevant notes.
Comparing an unaudited quarter with an audited year without a label
Unaudited figures can be revised. Preserve the assurance status in headlines, tables and charts.
Relying on a single quarter
Commodity prices, shutdowns and working-capital timing can distort one period. Use QoQ, YoY and YTD views, then inspect at least the preceding audited periods available in the filings.
10. What a decision-ready result summary should contain
A useful quarterly summary can fit into six evidence-based statements:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- The period, filing status and consolidated or standalone scope.
- Revenue change with a clear QoQ, YoY or YTD comparator.
- EBITDA, PBT and PAT margins, with the cost or tax driver of movement.
- The segment responsible for most of the change and whether its growth was volume-, price- or mix-led.
- Gross debt, the cash definition, net debt and near-term maturity considerations.
- Operating-cash conversion, capex intensity and whether investment was funded internally.
For Himadri’s FY2025-26 numbers, the central analytical tension is clear: the company reported substantial profit and operating cash, while investing outflows and current borrowings require a close look at funding, working capital and the availability of reported bank balances. The next quarter should be assessed by whether revenue growth is supported by physical demand, whether margins hold after input costs, and whether operating cash catches up with accounting earnings.
