If your character is not responding correctly to a Joy-Con, Nintendo Switch Sports does not document a general motion-sensitivity slider. For Soccer, you can change to Leg-Strap Mode from the sport’s control prompt; for motion alignment problems, use the Switch’s calibration options. These are separate fixes: changing the Soccer mode does not recalibrate a controller, and calibration is not a sensitivity adjustment.
Change Soccer to Leg-Strap Mode
Nintendo’s FAQ addresses the prompt, “What can I do if my character isn’t performing the correct actions when I move the Joy-Con?” Its documented in-game control change is specific to Soccer:

If the problem happens only when using the Leg Strap, check that it is attached properly. Joy-Con 2 controllers are not compatible with the Leg Strap. See Nintendo’s Nintendo Switch Sports FAQ for the mode and controller details.

Nintendo provides two ways to recalibrate Switch motion controls. The console-settings route has on-screen steps and a completion confirmation; the automatic method can be used without closing a game and gives no notification. Nintendo’s automatic-calibration guidance is general to Switch motion controls and does not specifically name Nintendo Switch Sports.
#1 Best Overall
- Two Joy Con can be used independently in each hand, or together as 1 game controller when attached to the Joy Con grip
- They can also attach to the main console for use in handheld mode, or be shared with friends to enjoy two player action in supported games
- Each Joy Con has a full set of buttons and can act as a standalone controller, and each includes an accelerometer and gyro sensor, making independent left and right motion control possible
Use System Settings
- Open HOME Menu > System Settings > Controllers and Sensors > Calibrate Motion Controls.
- Remove straps and other accessories from the controller.
- Select the controller you want to calibrate, then hold − or + as prompted.
- Place the controller stick-up on a flat, stable surface and leave it still while calibration runs.
- When calibration completes, choose OK.
Nintendo also advises checking that the console has the latest system update. Follow its motion-control calibration steps if the menu or prompts differ.
Allow automatic calibration during a game
Set the device being calibrated on a flat, stable surface for at least five seconds. Nintendo says motion controls recalibrate automatically; there is no notification that calibration has started or completed. This is a general Switch instruction, not a Nintendo Switch Sports-specific setting. Read Nintendo’s motion calibration Q&A for this method.
Check controller compatibility
Nintendo Switch Sports supports paired or single Joy-Con and Joy-Con 2 configurations depending on the sport, but its FAQ lists several important limits:
- The game does not support Handheld Mode.
- Nintendo Switch Pro Controllers and Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controllers are not compatible.
- Joy-Con 2 controllers cannot be used with the Leg Strap.
For the sport-specific controller configuration, consult Nintendo’s compatibility FAQ.

If motion input still does not work
- Update the console and the game software.
- Reset the Joy-Con by pressing its SYNC button once, then press another button to turn it back on.
- Confirm that the software you are playing supports motion controls.
- If motion input still fails in software that supports it, or calibration fails, contact Nintendo for Joy-Con service.
Nintendo’s Joy-Con troubleshooting guidance covers these checks. If the fault is limited to Soccer while using the Leg Strap, first verify the strap is attached correctly and that you are not using Joy-Con 2.

Nintendo’s Switch Sports FAQ does not list a general motion-sensitivity setting or a global motion-control off switch. The documented options are the Soccer-specific Leg-Strap Mode and the Switch’s motion-calibration procedures. Calibration addresses motion alignment; Nintendo’s calibration guidance does not establish that a sensitivity slider exists.
