You can still check which Android version and security patch are installed on your phone, but that information does not mean the model remains supported.
Why Pixel 5 updates stopped
Google’s current Pixel update policy lists the Pixel 5 among devices that no longer receive Android version or security updates.
When the phone launched, Google’s Pixel 5 specifications promised at least three years of OS and security updates from the phone’s first availability on the Google Store in the United States. A Google Pixel Product Expert later gave a more specific end date: in a March 6, 2024 community reply, the expert said the Pixel 5 reached the end of monthly updates in November 2023. That timing comes from a community answer, rather than the wording of Google’s main update-policy page. Read the community reply.
How to check your Pixel 5’s installed Android version and security patch
- Open Settings.
- Tap About phone.
- Tap Android version.
Google says this screen shows the Android version and Android security update level installed on the device. Its instructions for checking and updating Android also explain where to find the Google Play system update and build number in Settings.

What the status means for owners
- Your phone may continue to show its current Android version, security patch level, and other software details in Settings; those are installed-version details, not evidence that Google is still issuing updates for the Pixel 5.
- The exact Android version and patch level can vary from one handset to another. Check your own phone rather than assuming every Pixel 5 has the same installed software.
- Google’s current policy does not list the Pixel 5 for further Android version or security updates. The community reply says app updates may continue, but that is distinct from operating-system and security updates.
Is a used Pixel 5 still a sensible purchase?
Do not treat the Pixel 5 as a currently security-supported phone. If considering any replacement or used handset, check Google’s current update policy for that exact model and compare its remaining OS and security support with your needs, as well as its price and hardware. Support periods differ by model; the Pixel 5’s end-of-support status should not be assumed to apply to other Pixels.
