Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTo adjust the brightness of the picture from a PS5, open Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output > Adjust HDR and follow the on-screen calibration. If you mean the PS5’s power-indicator light, use Settings > System > Beep and Light > Brightness instead. These settings control different things.
Adjust the PS5’s HDR picture calibration
- From the PS5 home screen, open Settings.
- Select Screen and Video, then Video Output.
- Select Adjust HDR and follow the on-screen directions. Sony describes this calibration as a way to fine-tune brightness for HDR rendering. Sony’s PS5 video-output guide covers the setting.
This adjusts HDR output calibration; it is not a universal brightness slider for every game, app, or display. If the picture still looks too dark or bright, check the picture settings on the connected TV or monitor. Available image quality depends on the display and the rest of the connected entertainment setup. Sony’s HDR instructions use these menu labels in Singapore English; wording may differ with console language or region.

Choose how the PS5 handles HDR
In Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output > HDR, select the behavior that fits your setup:
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| On When Supported | Uses HDR for content that supports it; unsupported games and apps remain in SDR. |
| Always On | Converts non-HDR games and apps to HDR output as well. |
These modes change HDR output behavior, not the display’s physical brightness control. Sony explains both options in its HDR setup guide.

Change the brightness of the PS5 indicator light
If you want to dim or brighten the light on the console itself, go to Settings > System > Beep and Light > Brightness. Choose Dim, Medium, or Bright. This only changes the console’s power-indicator light; it does not change the image on your TV. See Sony’s beep and light guide.
Adjust brightness on the TV or monitor
A display’s own picture controls are separate from PS5 settings. Use the TV or monitor’s menu if the screen itself needs to be brighter or darker; exact controls vary by model. For example, Sony says brightness is available in the quick menu’s Picture settings on its 27-inch gaming monitor, including while HDR is active. That specific control path does not apply to every display. Sony’s monitor guide describes that model.

Accessibility settings that affect appearance
PS5 accessibility options include Invert Colors, Color Correction, Text Size, Bold Text, and High Contrast. They affect color or legibility rather than providing a general picture-brightness slider. Sony notes that turning on Invert Colors turns HDR off. See Sony’s accessibility settings guide.
