To add Tebex to a crossplay Space Engineers server, run the game as a dedicated server configured for EOS and console compatibility, create the server in the Tebex Control Panel, then install either the vanilla Tebex plugin or the TorchAPI plugin. Crossplay is a server-side deployment: a normal player-hosted world is not the setup described in Keen Software House’s cross-platform documentation. The instructions below cover both supported Tebex installation paths and the checks that matter when PC and console players must join the same server.

What you need before installing Tebex
Gather the following before changing files or settings. Having each item ready prevents most failed installations.

How crossplay affects the Tebex setup
Crossplay does not change the Tebex authentication method; it changes the server foundation on which the plugin runs. Keen’s crossplay guidance describes a dedicated server using EOS and console-compatibility settings so PC and console users can find the same server in the EOS list. A locally hosted, player-created world does not provide that documented deployment model.

Keen’s Community Crossplay announcement is dated April 4, 2025. Labels and layout can differ between server-tool releases, so use the names shown by your installed version while verifying that the EOS/network and console-compatibility functions are enabled. Tebex runs server-side, meaning the same plugin installation serves players on every supported client platform.
Choose the Tebex integration path
Tebex supports a vanilla Dedicated Server integration and a TorchAPI integration. Pick one path for a server; do not install both copies of the plugin in the same runtime.

Step 1: Prepare the dedicated server for crossplay
- Install or provision the server. Use the Space Engineers Dedicated Server software on a Windows PC, or select a managed host that gives you equivalent file, configuration, and restart access.
- Open the server configuration. In the Dedicated Server tool, open the configuration for the world you intend to publish.
- Enable EOS/network support. Turn on the EOS or network option used by your server version. This is what places the server in the EOS-based discovery path rather than treating it as a local-only session.
- Enable console compatibility. Turn on the console-compatibility option in the same server configuration. Without it, console clients may not be able to discover or join even if the PC server is running.
- Save and start once without Tebex. Confirm that the dedicated server starts cleanly and that an authorized PC or console account can see the server through the intended EOS list. This isolates crossplay configuration from later plugin troubleshooting.
If your host hides these options, ask its support team whether EOS discovery and console compatibility are supported before proceeding. A Tebex plugin cannot make a non-crossplay server discoverable to console players.
Step 2: Create the Tebex server entry and copy the secret key
- Sign in to the Tebex Control Panel.
- Create a game-server entry for Space Engineers.
- Open the Game Servers page for that entry.
- Copy the server’s secret key exactly as displayed. The Tebex installation requires this key to associate the plugin with your store.
Store the key in a password manager or another restricted location while you work. Do not publish it in a screenshot, paste it into a public Discord or forum, commit it to source control, or include it in a support bundle. If the key is exposed, rotate it in the Tebex control panel and replace the value in your server configuration.

Step 3: Install the vanilla Tebex plugin
Use this route when you want the smallest installation surface and the documented built-in commands.
Download and place the plugin
- In the Tebex Control Panel, download the latest Vanilla Tebex Plugin ZIP for Space Engineers.
- Stop the dedicated server before changing its files.
- Unpack the ZIP into the server root, preserving the folder structure included in the archive. The server root is the directory used by the Space Engineers Dedicated Server tool for the installation you are configuring.
Do not rename the assembly. The file you will select in the server tool is Tebex-SpaceEngineers.dll.
Add the assembly in the Dedicated Server tool
- Open the Space Engineers Dedicated Server tool.
- Continue to the server configuration for the target world.
- Open the Plugins tab.
- Under Assemblies, choose Add.
- Select
Tebex-SpaceEngineers.dllfrom the server files. - Select the Tebex plugin in the resulting plugin list.
- Paste the secret key copied from the Tebex Game Servers page into the plugin configuration.
- Save the configuration and start the server.
The vanilla integration exposes /give_item and /give_money. If your store depends on custom commands beyond those two, use TorchAPI instead of trying to extend the vanilla assembly.
Step 4: Install the TorchAPI Tebex plugin
Choose TorchAPI when your store or server workflow needs custom commands and advanced functionality. Torch introduces an additional plugin platform, so verify that your host supports Torch before downloading the integration.

Install on a graphical Torch server
- Download the TorchAPI Tebex plugin ZIP from the Tebex Control Panel.
- Stop Torch.
- Place the ZIP, without extracting it, in Torch’s
Pluginsfolder. The ZIP itself belongs in that folder. - Start Torch and wait for the plugin list to load.
- Select Tebex under Plugins.
- Enter the secret key from the Tebex Game Servers page.
- Save the Torch configuration and restart if Torch requests a restart for plugin changes.
Configure a headless Torch installation
- Place the unextracted Tebex plugin ZIP in Torch’s
Pluginsfolder. - Start Torch and allow it to finish loading.
- Join the server as an owner account.
- Run the command
!tebex.secret your-secret-key, replacingyour-secret-keywith the actual key. - Keep the command out of recordings, screenshots, and public chat logs. If your console records owner commands, restrict access to those logs.
TorchAPI supports custom commands and advanced functionality that the vanilla integration does not. It does not remove the need for EOS and console-compatibility settings; those remain properties of the underlying dedicated server.
Step 5: Confirm that Tebex connected
Do not treat a visible plugin entry as proof that the integration works. The decisive check is the startup log after the key has been saved and the server has reached its normal online state.

Look for messages showing this sequence:
- Tebex is starting.
- The secret key has been set.
- Store information is loading.
- The server connects to the store.
Tebex’s documented example of a successful connection is:
[Tebex] [INFO] Connected to store https://yourstore.tebex.ioThe hostname in that line is an example of the store address. Your log should show your own Tebex store. Save a copy of the successful startup section for future troubleshooting, but redact the secret key before sharing it.

Troubleshoot a plugin that does not connect
No Tebex lines appear at startup
- For vanilla, reopen the Dedicated Server tool and confirm that
Tebex-SpaceEngineers.dllwas added under Plugins and Assemblies, then save and restart. - For TorchAPI, confirm that the Tebex ZIP is in Torch’s
Pluginsfolder and remains unextracted. Restart Torch after correcting the path. - Check that you installed only the integration intended for your runtime. A vanilla assembly and a Torch plugin are different installation paths.
- Confirm that the host permits third-party server plugins. A restricted host can prevent loading even when the files are present.
The plugin loads but cannot authenticate
- Return to the Tebex Control Panel’s Game Servers page and copy the key again, making sure no leading or trailing characters were added.
- For a graphical Torch installation, save the key in the Tebex plugin settings. For headless Torch, join as an owner and run
!tebex.secret your-secret-keyagain. - Restart the server after changing the key so the plugin begins a fresh connection attempt.
- Never paste the key into a public issue or chat message while asking for help.
The log stops before store information loads
Temporarily enable Tebex Debug Mode in the plugin configuration. Restart the server, reproduce the connection attempt, and inspect the detailed Tebex activity and error messages. Debug output is intended for diagnosis; disable Debug Mode after collecting the relevant error so routine logs remain manageable and the key is not unnecessarily exposed.
PC players can join but console players cannot
This is usually a crossplay configuration issue rather than a Tebex issue. Recheck the EOS/network and console-compatibility options in the dedicated-server configuration, save them, and restart. Then test discovery from a console account through the EOS list. The Tebex plugin cannot compensate for a server that is not advertising console compatibility.
The server is not visible to anyone
- Verify that the dedicated server is actually running and completed startup without a configuration failure.
- Confirm that the world is configured for EOS discovery rather than a local-only or player-hosted session.
- Check the host’s firewall, network, and server-list settings according to its documentation.
- If the host manages configuration centrally, ask whether it has enabled EOS and console compatibility on your specific instance.
A managed host refuses the plugin files
Some hosts allow only an approved plugin catalog or block DLL and ZIP uploads. Ask specifically whether the plan permits the Space Engineers vanilla Tebex assembly or TorchAPI plugins, whether you can edit the required server settings, and whether full startup logs are available. If the answer is no, changing Tebex settings will not overcome the host restriction; move the server to an environment that exposes those controls.
Commands and store behavior

Choose the integration based on the commands your packages require, not on whether players use PC or console. Crossplay clients share the server-side integration, while the command surface is determined by the plugin path.
Operational practices after setup
Protect the secret key
- Limit control-panel and server-file access to trusted administrators.
- Redact the key from screenshots, videos, tickets, backups shared with contractors, and configuration examples.
- Rotate the key if it appears in public output, a repository, or a message sent to the wrong person.
Keep a recovery copy of configuration
Back up the server configuration and note whether you used the vanilla assembly or TorchAPI. Keep the backup private because it may contain the secret key. After a game-server or Torch update, verify the plugin again instead of assuming the previous configuration survived unchanged.

- Confirm the dedicated server starts and advertises through EOS.
- Confirm Tebex reaches the connected-to-store log line.
- Test one harmless store action with an administrator account.
- Only then open purchases or package delivery to the wider player base.
Testing in this order tells you whether a failure belongs to crossplay discovery, plugin loading, authentication, or a particular store command.
Vanilla or TorchAPI: a practical decision
Choose vanilla when
- You want the fewest components to maintain.
- Your Tebex packages need only
/give_itemand/give_money. - Your host supports the Dedicated Server tool’s Assemblies configuration but does not provide Torch.
Choose TorchAPI when
- You need custom commands or advanced functionality.
- You already operate Torch and are comfortable maintaining its plugin folder and configuration.
- Your host explicitly supports Torch plugins and gives you access to the required logs and settings.
Neither choice by itself enables crossplay. The server still needs the dedicated EOS and console-compatible configuration described earlier.
Final checklist
- Dedicated server is running on a Windows PC or a compatible managed host.
- EOS/network support is enabled.
- Console compatibility is enabled.
- A Space Engineers server entry exists in the Tebex Control Panel.
- The secret key came from the Tebex Game Servers page and is stored privately.
- Exactly one Tebex integration is installed using its correct path.
- Vanilla uses
Tebex-SpaceEngineers.dllunder the Dedicated Server tool’s Assemblies section. - TorchAPI uses the unextracted Tebex ZIP in Torch’s
Pluginsfolder. - The key is saved through the graphical settings or, for headless Torch, with
