Listen for LiveKit’s TranscriptionEvent, use its associated participant to label each segment, and keep transcript updates keyed by segment ID. The current Flutter API documents firstReceivedTime and lastReceivedTime as receipt-time fields; it does not document explicit utterance start and end offsets. Show receipt times as such unless you verify media-relative timing for your exact SDK and transcription pipeline.
Which event and fields should you use?
A TranscriptionEvent arrives from the server with an associated participant, an optional publication, and a list of transcript segments. That makes the event the appropriate place to update the transcript UI. See the Flutter TranscriptionEvent API reference.

Each segment provides an ID, text, language, finality state, and receipt-time fields. Use the segment ID to associate updates with the same transcript segment; do not blindly append each event, since interim text may change before it becomes final. The Flutter TranscriptionSegment API reference lists these fields.

Use the participant attached to the transcription event, not a guess based on who is currently speaking. Participant identity and display name serve different purposes: identity is user-assigned, while name is a read-only display-name field in the Flutter API. Prefer a non-empty display name if your application populates it; otherwise use identity so the speaker remains distinguishable. See the Flutter Participant API reference.

Active-speaker updates describe current speaking status, which can change independently of a transcript event. They are useful for speaking indicators, but should not replace the participant association carried by the transcription event. LiveKit documents active-speaker handling in its Flutter event guide.
How to display timestamps without mislabeling them
The current Flutter segment reference exposes firstReceivedTime and lastReceivedTime, but does not list startTime or endTime. The reference does not establish that receipt time equals the position of the spoken words in the audio. If you display these fields, label them as received or arrival times—not utterance start/end times or media offsets—unless the behavior is confirmed for the specific SDK and transcription source you use.

If your interface needs a timestamp relative to the start of a recording, verify that your exact server or agent output and Flutter SDK provide a media offset. Otherwise, define and document a separate timing source rather than silently treating wall-clock receipt time as audio position.

This pseudocode illustrates the data flow, not a tested drop-in sample. Confirm listener method signatures and field types against the livekit_client version pinned in your app.

}Have the store upsert by segment ID so changed interim text updates the existing row instead of creating duplicates. The example uses firstReceivedTime as a receipt time and deliberately does not invent utterance offsets.
Use the participant lookup conventions for your SDK version
LiveKit’s v1-to-v2 migration guide says the v2 remote-participant map, remoteParticipants, is keyed by participant identity, and its Flutter example uses getParticipantByIdentity. Older v1 snippets may instead use SID-keyed collections; do not carry those lookups into v2 code without adapting them. Consult the LiveKit migration guide and the API reference matching your dependency.

The documentation pages do not all show the same package version: the event reference displays livekit_client 2.7.0, while the segment reference displays 2.10.0. Pin the version used by your app, check its matching API, and verify listener signatures before relying on an example.
