Sony’s safety guide for the PS5 Slim CFI-2000 model group specifies a 3V CR2032 coin cell, but also says the console’s coin cell is non-user-replaceable and should only be replaced by a qualified person. That specification identifies the battery type; it is not approval for a do-it-yourself swap.
Which battery does the PS5 Slim use?
For the CFI-2000 model group, Sony identifies the console’s internal coin cell as a 3V CR2032. Sony calls it a “coin cell battery” in its CFI-2000-family Safety Guide. A product search phrase matching that specification is “CR2032 3V lithium coin cell,” but purchasing the cell does not make its installation a user repair.

Can you replace the PS5 Slim coin cell yourself?
No—not according to Sony’s guidance. The CFI-2000-family Safety Guide states: “The console contains a non-user replaceable coin cell battery which should only be replaced by a qualified person.” Sony does not provide an ordinary-user replacement procedure in that guidance, so this article does not give opening or removal steps.
If replacement is needed, contact PlayStation support or a qualified console/electronics repair provider. Ask whether the provider works on your exact PS5 model, what repair procedure and parts terms apply, and for the total quoted cost. No particular provider or repair price is established here.

Check your PS5 model before applying battery guidance
“PS5 Slim” is not enough to establish compatibility. Find the console’s model number and consult the manual for that model group before acting. Sony’s manuals directory organizes guidance by product, and its PS5 support page distinguishes CFI-2000/2100/7000 and CFI-1000 model groups. The CR2032 specification cited here is for the CFI-2000-family guide; do not assume it applies to a different group without checking its documentation.
Do not confuse it with the DualSense battery
The console’s CR2032 coin cell is separate from the rechargeable lithium-ion battery inside a DualSense controller. Sony discusses these as different batteries in its safety guide. Controller battery advice therefore does not establish how to repair the console’s internal coin cell.

If the PS5 date or time keeps resetting
A resetting date or time may lead you to investigate the console coin cell, but that symptom alone does not confirm the cause or prove that a replacement is needed. Check the applicable model manual and contact PlayStation support or a qualified repair provider for diagnosis rather than opening the console to probe or remove the cell.
