How to Check AT&T Outages and Troubleshoot Service Problems

Use AT&T’s outage page to check wireless or internet service near you. If no outage appears, restart your gateway, check its lights, and run account diagnostics.

To check whether AT&T is down near you, start at AT&T’s outage page. It provides general wireless and internet outage information; sign in for details tied to your address or account. If no outage is shown, check your home equipment and AT&T’s service diagnostics. A gateway restart may help with a local connection problem, but it will not repair a carrier-side outage.

How to check whether AT&T is down in your area

  1. Open AT&T’s outage page and look for information about wireless or internet service interruptions. The page may ask you to verify your account. In the observed sign-in flow, AT&T requested a phone number on the account and sent a confirmation code; the exact steps may change.

  2. Sign in if you need information specific to your account or address. AT&T says customers can see more personalized outage details after signing in.

  3. If an outage is listed, select “Get text updates now” after signing in at att.com/outages to receive updates about that outage, including when AT&T says it is over. The alerts are for the specific outage, not future incidents. Alert availability can also depend on Smart Home Manager notifications and account-profile consent.

    • CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
    • EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
    • OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.

The outage page reports what AT&T has identified; an empty result does not by itself prove that service is reaching your home. A phone or computer can remain connected to Wi-Fi even when the gateway has lost its connection to AT&T.

If AT&T shows no outage, troubleshoot the connection

AT&T’s guidance is: “If you’re not in an outage area and can’t connect to the internet, a system restart may help.” Check for an area issue first, then work through the local connection checks below.

Restart the gateway, hub, or modem

  1. Unplug the power cord from your All-Fi Hub, Wi-Fi Gateway, or modem.

  2. If the equipment has an internal battery backup, remove it as directed for that model. If you use DSL, disconnect the telephone cord as well.

    • ONT IS REQUIRED FOR THIS MODEM TO WORK WITH YOUR SERVICE
    • Includes; Gateway, Power Adapter and Ethernet Cord
  3. Wait 20 seconds, then reconnect the relevant cords and battery backup.

  4. Allow the equipment to restart before testing your connection. AT&T’s detailed troubleshooting instructions, updated March 2, 2026, say this can take up to 10 minutes. Restart time varies by equipment and instructions; a separate AT&T outage FAQ, last updated November 24, 2025, gives an estimate of up to five minutes.

A restart temporarily interrupts internet-dependent phone and TV services as well as internet access. Don’t treat it as a remedy for a confirmed AT&T network outage.

Check the status lights

Look at the lights on the gateway or hub and compare them with the guidance for your equipment in AT&T’s internet troubleshooting instructions. AT&T says these lights indicate internet status. The meaning of a light depends on the device and its current state, so use the model-specific guidance rather than assuming one color means the same thing on every gateway.

Use account diagnostics

Sign in through AT&T’s internet support page for service-status checks, Wi-Fi details, and equipment speed tests. If the outage page is clear but the connection still fails after a restart, these account tools can help distinguish a service issue from a problem with Wi-Fi or local equipment.

Internet Air customers: check wireless outages

AT&T’s internet troubleshooting guidance tells Internet Air customers to check for wireless outages. Use the wireless outage information rather than treating Internet Air as a conventional wired broadband connection.

When to contact AT&T

If the outage checker, restart, status-light guidance, and account diagnostics do not explain or resolve the problem, AT&T lists bill-account and technical support at 800.288.2020. Phone numbers and support hours can change; confirm the current contact details and hours on AT&T’s support page before calling. The page observed for this article listed technical-support hours as Saturday and Sunday, 5 a.m.–1 a.m. Central Time.

What a UPS can—and cannot—do

An older AT&T U-verse legal booklet names a UPS as an example of backup power for U-verse Internet during a household power outage. That narrow example does not establish compatibility with current AT&T equipment, and backup power cannot restore service during an AT&T network failure. Check the documentation for your specific equipment and the runtime you need before relying on a UPS.
