How to Add Multiple Prerecorded Videos to a Streamlabs Desktop YouTube Stream

Use separate Streamlabs Desktop sources or scenes for manual clip switching, or a playlist-capable source if your version provides one. Preview the sequence and audio before going live.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To include several prerecorded videos in a Streamlabs Desktop YouTube stream, either add each clip as its own media source and switch between them manually, or use a playlist-capable source to play clips in sequence—if your installed version offers one. Streamlabs’ official guides explain its scenes and sources, but do not confirm identical multi-file playlist controls in every Desktop version. Set up and test the method available in your build before going live.

Choose how the clips should play

Method How it works Best when
Separate sources or scenes Add each local clip as a source, or put clips in separate scenes, then select the next one yourself during the broadcast. You want control over when each clip starts and how you move between clips.
Playlist-capable source If your Streamlabs Desktop version exposes a VLC video source or another playlist-capable source, configure a list of files for sequential playback. You want clips to follow one another without manually changing sources.

Streamlabs Desktop’s scenes-and-sources workflow is documented, but the official pages cited here do not establish a universal multi-file playlist procedure, exact current labels, or identical controls across versions. VLC’s documentation describes sequential playback from a playlist; it does not confirm which VLC controls are integrated into a particular Streamlabs Desktop build. Check the options in your installed version rather than assuming the same buttons will appear for everyone. Add and check multiple local clips in Streamlabs Desktop

  1. Open or create the scene. Choose the scene you intend to use for prerecorded video, or create one in Streamlabs Desktop.
  2. Add the first video source. In the Sources panel, use its add control to add a media or video source for a local file. Follow the labels and file-selection controls shown in your installed version; the current general Streamlabs setup guide does not give an authoritative click-by-click local playlist walkthrough.
  3. Choose manual switching or sequential playback. For manual control, add each clip as a separate source, or create separate scenes and switch between them during the stream. For automatic playback, look for a VLC video source or another playlist-capable source. Use that route only if it is available in your build, and verify the playlist and playback behavior before relying on it.
  4. Inspect the scene and sound. Check source order and visibility, make sure each video fits the preview as intended, and play the clips to verify their audio in the mixer. For separate scenes, inspect each one; for a playlist, test the sequence rather than just the first file.
  5. Run a test before broadcasting publicly. If appropriate, make a private or unlisted test stream. At minimum, inspect the Streamlabs preview and audio mixer. YouTube recommends checking the Live Control Room preview and monitoring audio and video quality when using an encoder. YouTube live-streaming tips.
  6. Connect YouTube and start only after checks pass. Connect your YouTube account in Streamlabs, select the intended stream, and start the encoder after confirming both picture and sound. See Streamlabs’ YouTube streaming guide for its account-connection and source-setup guidance.

Do not confuse Desktop sources with other Streamlabs features

Talk Studio prerecorded-video scheduling

Streamlabs Talk Studio has a separate flow for scheduling a stream: select destinations, upload a prerecorded video, and set stream metadata and time. That feature is not evidence that Streamlabs Desktop queues multiple local clips. See Streamlabs’ prerecorded-video guide.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Media Share

Streamlabs Media Share is a viewer-request feature that uses a widget added as a source. It is not a way to turn a folder of local videos into a playlist. See Streamlabs Media Share guide.

Check YouTube eligibility and rights before streaming

  • Confirm that the channel can go live. YouTube says a creator needs a verified channel and no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Check the channel’s status before scheduling or starting a broadcast. YouTube’s getting-started guide.
  • Use only material you have the necessary rights to stream. This includes music as well as video. YouTube’s live-stream terms require the provider to hold necessary rights, including music licensing rights. YouTube livestream terms.
  • Account for live Content ID checks. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. Unresolved matches can interrupt or terminate a stream. Even with a licence, the rights holder may need to allowlist your channel through Content ID for the live broadcast not to be interrupted. YouTube copyright help.

Troubleshoot common setup problems

Symptom What to check Next step
A clip does not appear in the preview Confirm the source is visible, ordered as intended, and assigned to the scene you are viewing. Reopen the source’s file selection in your installed version, then inspect the scene preview again.
The wrong clip plays, or clips do not advance Check whether you built separate manually switched sources or a playlist-capable source. Playlist controls may differ by version and may not be available. Test each file and the complete sequence before going live. If the build has no suitable playlist source, use separate sources or scenes and switch manually.
Video is visible but sound is missing or wrong Play the clip and inspect the Streamlabs audio mixer and source visibility. Adjust the relevant source or mixer settings in the installed version and repeat the preview test.
A test stream is interrupted over third-party content Check whether the video or audio contains material that triggered a rights match. Use cleared material and resolve rights issues; where the content is licensed, ask the rights holder whether channel allowlisting through Content ID is needed.
You cannot start a YouTube live stream Check channel verification and whether a live-stream restriction occurred in the preceding 90 days. Review the channel’s eligibility in YouTube before attempting the broadcast again.
