To add HBO Max through Amazon, sign in to Prime Video on the web, open Subscriptions, select HBO Max, and follow the on-screen prompts to subscribe. HBO Max is a paid add-on inside Prime Video. It is not included just because you have a Prime Video account, so you will be charged separately once you confirm.
Add HBO Max from the Prime Video website
- Open Prime Video in a web browser and sign in to the Amazon account you want the subscription attached to.
- Select Subscriptions in the top navigation.
- Browse the channel subscriptions, or search for HBO Max.
- Open the HBO Max listing, choose one of the offered plans, and follow the prompts to subscribe. Check the monthly price, billing period, and plan name on the confirmation screen before you approve the charge.
Amazon describes this as an additional paid subscription, billed on top of whatever you already pay for Prime Video. The steps above are the ones Amazon documents for the U.S. Menu labels and the exact layout can differ by device and country, so if a name does not match what you see, look for the same option under the Subscriptions area of your account.

Amazon’s Prime Video guide, updated September 17, 2026, lists the following U.S. prices for HBO Max at the time of that update. Amazon tells readers to check its current subscriptions page for live pricing, and that page is the figure you should trust at checkout.

Availability depends on where your Prime Video account is set up. Amazon’s guide covers the United States and a range of international Prime Video markets, and it warns that availability varies. The HBO Max help page names Prime Video Channels sign-up in Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico. If HBO Max does not appear under Subscriptions, the most likely explanation is that it is not offered in your country’s Prime Video store, so check the Prime Video site for your region before looking for a workaround.

Watching HBO Max after you subscribe
You have two ways to watch, and both work after the subscription is active.

HBO Max titles appear inside Prime Video once the subscription is active, so you do not need a separate app for them.

Watch in the HBO Max app
- Download the HBO Max app on your device.
- Open the app and choose Connect your provider before you sign in.
- Select Prime Video as the provider, then sign in.
Connecting the provider first is the step that matters. Signing in without it is the most likely way to end up on the wrong sign-in path.
Cancelling a Prime Video Channels subscription

- Sign in if asked.
- Under Your Channels, find HBO Max.
- Choose Cancel Channel.
The cancellation steps above are the ones HBO Max publishes for those three markets. The sources reviewed do not give separate cancellation steps for U.S. accounts, so check the billing details shown in your Prime Video account for the correct route.
What does not carry over from an existing HBO Max subscription
Nothing in Amazon’s or HBO Max’s documentation shows that a direct HBO Max subscription is moved, linked, or credited when you add HBO Max through Prime Video. Subscribing through Prime Video creates a new subscription with its own billing and cancellation path. Plan for that before you start a second subscription to the same service.

Background: when HBO Max came to Prime Video
HBO Max launched on Prime Video in the United States on December 6, 2022, according to Amazon’s announcement of that date. In that announcement, Cem Sibay, vice president of Prime Video, said: “Now with the addition of HBO Max again, customers can easily add this subscription and enjoy even more award-winning and fan favorite entertainment on Prime Video.” That quote describes the 2022 launch, not current pricing or availability.
Choosing between Prime Video and a direct HBO Max subscription
Before you subscribe, decide four things:
- Availability: whether HBO Max is offered through Prime Video in your country.
- Plan and price: which plan appears on the Subscriptions page and what it costs at checkout.
- Where you want to watch: inside Prime Video, or in the HBO Max app after you connect Prime Video as the provider.
- Where you want to manage billing: the place where you will change or cancel the subscription.
The sources do not establish differences in catalog, features, or eligibility between a Prime Video subscription and a direct HBO Max subscription, so do not assume one route gives you more content than the other. If Prime Video is where you already watch, and HBO Max is offered at a price you accept on the Subscriptions page, adding it there is the simplest route. If you want billing to stay in one place, compare the two options on the same billing terms before you decide.
