To add a website to Windows Start from Edge, open the site and select Settings and more (…) > More tools > Pin to Start. To pin it to the taskbar—or manage both kinds of pin—install the site as an app first, then use its card at edge://apps.
Pin a website directly to the Start menu
- Open the website in Microsoft Edge.
- Select Settings and more (…), then More tools > Pin to Start.
- Confirm the prompt if Windows or Edge asks you to.
This is the shorter route when you only want a Start-menu entry. Microsoft documents it for Windows 10 and Windows 11 in its Windows Start menu instructions.

Install the site as an app to pin it to Start or the taskbar
- With the site open in Edge, select Settings and more (…) > More tools > Apps > Install this site as an app.
- Review and confirm the installation prompt.
- In Edge’s address bar, enter
edge://appsand press Enter. - Find the site’s card, select Details, then choose Pin to taskbar or Pin to Start.
The Details card also provides options for creating a desktop shortcut, opening the site at startup, and uninstalling it. Microsoft’s instructions for installing and managing apps in Edge cover this workflow.

Choose the route that fits how you will use the site

What “install this site as an app” means
An installed site opens in its own dedicated window. That does not automatically make it a full native app or give it Progressive Web App (PWA) features such as offline operation or notifications. A site that is a PWA may offer its own install prompt; Microsoft explains the distinction between PWAs and sites installed as apps.

If you cannot find the install or pin option
- If the site is already installed, open
edge://apps, select its Details card, and check the available pin controls. - If you want a Start pin, try the direct More tools > Pin to Start route from the open webpage.
- If an install prompt is offered by the site, follow that prompt. Menu labels may differ by language or Edge release, and managed devices may show different options; Microsoft’s instructions do not identify every reason an option might be unavailable.
