In HTML, put the image inside an <a> element and set the anchor’s href to the destination. The exact steps depend on where you are working.
Add a hyperlink to an image in Microsoft Word
- Select the picture you want people to click.
- Choose Insert > Link. Alternatively, right-click the picture and choose Link.
- Enter the destination in the Address box, then confirm the link.
Word’s link dialog can also point to a file, an email address, or a location in the document. If useful, add ScreenTip text in the dialog so a pointer hover can reveal more information about the link. Menu names and their location can differ by Word version and platform.

Google’s general link instructions describe selecting a place for a link or highlighting text, choosing Insert > Link, entering a URL or email address, and selecting Apply. Those instructions do not establish an image-specific procedure. If you need to link an image, check the current behavior in the particular Google editor and platform you are using rather than assuming the text-link steps apply to pictures.

Make an image a link in HTML
Wrap the <img> element in an anchor and set the anchor’s href to the destination URL:
<a href="https://example.com/">
<img src="photo.jpg" alt="Visit Example’s photo gallery">
</a>
Here, the anchor supplies the destination and the image is the link’s visible content. Use an href that points where the reader expects; it can address a web page, file, email address, or another location a URL can identify. The image’s alt text serves as the link’s accessible label when the image itself is the link. Describe its destination or action—for example, “Visit Example’s photo gallery”—rather than using an uninformative label.

If the link control is unavailable or the image does not work as expected
There is no single documented fix for every disabled or missing link control. The available instructions do not establish a universal cause, so first identify the product, version, and platform rather than applying a workaround intended for another editor.

- You cannot find the control: In Word, try selecting the picture and using Insert > Link, or right-click it and choose Link. In PowerPoint, select the picture and look for Insert > Link > Insert Link. Labels and menus may vary by release and platform.
- The picture is not selected: Select the picture itself before opening the link controls; otherwise, the editor may apply a link to another selected object or text.
- The link opens the wrong place: Check the destination entered in the dialog or the HTML anchor’s
href. - The HTML image link is hard to understand without seeing the image: Give the image meaningful
alttext that conveys the link’s destination or purpose. - You are using a Google editor: Its cited general link instructions do not document an image-specific sequence. Confirm what the current editor supports rather than treating the general text procedure as proof that image linking is available.

If you need a screenshot of the page after adding a link, ScreenshotNeo can return a screenshot with one GET request. This captures a page; it does not add a hyperlink to an image. The API and its options are documented at ScreenshotNeo’s documentation.
