Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →To hide cookie banners in ScreenshotAPI.net captures, add no_cookie_banners=true to your screenshot request. The option is documented as off by default, and ScreenshotAPI.net says it removes most consent banners—not necessarily every banner. If a particular site still shows one, hide its banner with a site-specific CSS selector before taking the screenshot.
Enable ScreenshotAPI.net’s cookie-banner option
Add this parameter to the query string of your existing ScreenshotAPI.net request:
no_cookie_banners=true
The documented default is false, so set the value explicitly to true. Keep your request’s existing endpoint, URL, and authentication parameters; the banner option is an additional capture setting, not a replacement for them. ScreenshotAPI.net describes the option as removing most cookie consent banners before capture, so inspect the resulting image when a specific site matters.
Ad clutter is a separate setting
If advertisements also cover the page, ScreenshotAPI.net documents block_ads=true as a separate option for blocking ad scripts. You do not need to enable ad blocking just to request cookie-banner removal.
Hide a site-specific banner with Puppeteer
Use browser automation when the built-in option does not remove the banner you need to hide, or when you need direct control over a particular page element. First identify the banner’s actual CSS selector using the page’s developer tools. The selector .cookie-banner below is only an example; sites use different markup and class names.
const puppeteer = require('puppeteer');
async function captureWithoutBanner(url, selector) {
const browser = await puppeteer.launch({ headless: true });
try {
const page = await browser.newPage();
await page.goto(url, { waitUntil: 'networkidle2' });
await page.evaluate((bannerSelector) => {
const banner = document.querySelector(bannerSelector);
if (banner) {
banner.style.display = 'none';
}
}, selector);
await page.screenshot({ path: 'capture.png', fullPage: true });
} finally {
await browser.close();
}
}
captureWithoutBanner('https://example.com', '.cookie-banner');
Replace both the target URL and selector. This example hides the matching element if it exists, then saves a full-page PNG. If the site inserts its banner after the initial page load, wait for the banner or for the page’s relevant content before running the selector code. A selector that matches nothing leaves the banner untouched; verify the output rather than assuming removal succeeded.
What hiding the element does—and does not do
Changing an element’s display affects what is rendered in the screenshot. It does not, by itself, record a consent choice or change the site’s consent state. Keep banner removal separate from authentication: a consent banner and an authentication cookie serve different purposes.
Cookie-banner removal is not authentication
If a page requires sign-in, hiding its consent banner will not grant access. ScreenshotAPI.net Help describes passing custom cookies to simulate a session; cookie-based authentication depends on how the particular site implements it. Treat login/session cookies as a separate capture requirement and use only credentials and sessions you are authorized to use.
Troubleshoot a banner that still appears
- The banner remains with the API option enabled: the vendor describes the feature as removing most banners, not all of them. Check the resulting capture and use the site-specific selector approach if needed.
- Your selector does not hide anything: inspect the page to find the actual element and selector. The illustrative
.cookie-bannerselector may not exist on the target site. - The banner appears after your code runs: wait for the banner or the relevant page content before querying and hiding it.
- The page is still behind a login screen: banner removal is not sign-in. Configure an authorized session separately; the API option does not authenticate you.
- Ads remain visible: ad blocking is separate from consent-banner handling. Set
block_ads=trueif you also want ScreenshotAPI.net to block ad scripts.
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo is an alternative website screenshot API: it accepts consent banners before capture and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets. Its response identifies the page verdict and whether the capture was billed; bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing. It also provides an MCP server for AI agents, and the free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card required; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.
For example, this single cURL request captures a page as WebP:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://example.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. To try ScreenshotNeo, sign up for 1,000 free screenshots a month with no card.
