Build the ticker as a web page or local HTML file, add it to an OBS scene as a Browser Source, layer it over your video, then send the composed scene to YouTube Live with an encoder. Before broadcasting, check that you’re allowed to display the listing details publicly and test the ticker’s readability, motion, audio, and stream health.
1. Prepare the ticker and confirm listing permissions
Create a ticker page with your brokerage or brand identity and the listing details viewers need, such as property location and price. Choose a scrolling speed that gives viewers enough time to read each item. You can host the page or save it as a local HTML file; OBS Browser Source can load either.

First confirm that the listing data and any photos, prices, and agent details may be displayed in a public broadcast. Check the applicable listing-data agreement, brokerage policy, and market-specific rules with the responsible provider or rights holder. OBS and YouTube explain how to build and transmit the stream; their technical documentation does not grant permission to republish property content.
2. Add the ticker to OBS
- Create or open your OBS scene. Use the scene that contains the video or background for the YouTube loop.
- Add a Browser Source. In the Sources panel, select +, then Browser. Give it a recognizable name such as “Property ticker.” OBS Browser Source supports a web page URL or a local file, and is available on Windows, macOS, and Linux. See the OBS Browser Source documentation.
- Set the source and viewport. Enter the hosted page URL or enable the local-file option and select your HTML file. Set the Browser Source width and height to match the overlay area you intend to use. OBS also provides controls for frame rate, custom CSS, and refresh behavior.
- Position it in the scene. Place the ticker source above the video or background source in the Sources list so it appears on top. Resize and position it in the preview, leaving enough margin that text is not cut off at the edge.
3. Make the ticker readable in the finished video
Judge the ticker in the full scene preview, not just in the browser page. Check that text contrasts clearly with whatever passes behind it, remains large enough at the intended output resolution, and does not cover important visuals. Watch a full scroll cycle: confirm that the speed is readable, listing boundaries are clear, and updated content does not appear clipped or stale. These are production checks; the cited platform documentation does not prescribe a particular font size, overlay position, or scrolling speed.

4. Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Create or schedule the broadcast. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create a stream or select a scheduled one.
- Configure the encoder. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions to enter the stream URL and stream key in your encoder. Treat the stream key as private; anyone who has it may be able to send video to your channel.
- Set output to current YouTube guidance. Choose a resolution and bitrate that suit your production and available upload bandwidth, and verify the settings against YouTube’s current encoder settings. YouTube’s guidance includes RTMP/RTMPS, constant bitrate encoding, a recommended two-second keyframe interval, and a maximum interval of four seconds. Don’t assume one bitrate is right for every resolution or connection.
- Check the preview before going live. For a scheduled stream, wait for the encoder preview in Live Control Room and confirm the picture and audio before choosing to go live.
5. Test the loop and monitor the broadcast
Run a test with representative audio and movement, including the ticker scrolling across the scene. Confirm that the loop transitions correctly, the overlay remains in place, and the audio is present and at a suitable level. YouTube recommends testing before starting a live stream and checking upload speed against the bitrate you plan to use. During the broadcast, monitor stream health in Live Control Room so you can catch connection or encoder problems.
Common problems and fixes
- The ticker is blank: Check that the URL loads or that the selected local file path is correct. If the page depends on external content, confirm that it loads in a browser and review the Browser Source refresh options.
- The ticker is cropped or mis-sized: Match the Browser Source viewport dimensions to the overlay design, then resize and reposition the source in the OBS scene preview.
- Text is hard to read: Increase contrast or text size, slow the scroll, and review it at the final stream resolution against the actual background.
- YouTube does not show an encoder preview: Verify that the encoder is using the stream URL and key for the selected broadcast, then check the connection and encoder settings in YouTube’s setup guidance.
- The stream reports poor health or drops: Compare encoder bitrate with measured upload capacity, check the network connection, and review YouTube’s current settings for the chosen resolution. Avoid selecting a bitrate based on download speed alone.
- A listing or image should not be on air: Remove it from the ticker source and verify display rights with the relevant rights holder before restoring it.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is to keep a YouTube loop running after the production is ready, StreamNeo lets you upload a recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It runs from the cloud, so no computer or home connection has to stay on. It streams uploaded video—not a live camera—and supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers. It can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required. Monthly access is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or start the free day.
