Optional cellular service is activated separately through eSIM management and depends on the watch model, carrier, country and plan.
This guide covers first-time activation, Android and iPhone pairing, eSIM setup, connection behavior after activation, phone changes and the most common fixes when a Huawei watch will not connect.

What you need before activating the watch
Have these items ready before opening the setup screen:
- The Huawei watch and its original charging equipment. A new watch may power on automatically when connected to the original charger; otherwise you will use the Up button.
- An Android phone or an iPhone with Bluetooth enabled.
- A working Wi-Fi or mobile-data connection on the phone. Internet access is part of first-time setup.
- The current HUAWEI Health app installed on the phone.
- A HUAWEI ID. You can sign in to an existing account or create one during setup.
- For iPhone pairing, iOS 13.0 or later, as specified in Huawei’s pairing guidance.
- For cellular service, an eligible watch, carrier support, a carrier eSIM QR code and any verification code the carrier requires.
Charge the watch before pairing even if it appears to have power. A watch that shuts down during account or firmware setup can leave pairing incomplete and make troubleshooting harder.

Turn on the Huawei watch and choose its language
- Place the watch on its original charging equipment. If it starts automatically, wait for the Huawei logo and the initial setup screen.
- If it does not start, press and hold the watch’s Up button until the Huawei logo appears.
- Choose the language shown on the watch.
- Leave the watch close to the phone while you install or update HUAWEI Health and begin pairing.
The watch being powered on is a prerequisite for discovery. If the display remains blank, reconnect the original charger, allow the battery to charge, and repeat the long press on the Up button.
Pair the watch in HUAWEI Health
Use the app’s device-add flow rather than pairing the watch only from the phone’s Bluetooth settings. The app links the watch to your HUAWEI ID, requests the permissions needed for features and manages the ongoing connection.
- Turn on Bluetooth on the phone and connect the phone to Wi-Fi or mobile data.
- Install HUAWEI Health, or update it if it is already installed.
- Open HUAWEI Health and sign in with your HUAWEI ID. Create an ID if you do not have one.
- Open the device page and select Add device.
- Choose the watch from the search results, or select the scan option and scan the QR code displayed on the watch.
- When the watch displays a pairing request, confirm it on the watch.
- Confirm the phone’s Bluetooth Pair prompt.
- Review the requested phone permissions and allow the ones needed for your chosen functions, such as notifications, calls, contacts or health data.
- Wait for the app to finish synchronising the watch. Keep the phone nearby and do not close HUAWEI Health while setup is completing.
After pairing, Huawei advises allowing HUAWEI Health to remain active in the background instead of swiping it away. Background operation supports more reliable notifications and call features.

Android and Huawei phone setup
On an Android or Huawei phone, the watch normally communicates through HUAWEI Health over Bluetooth. The phone supplies the watch with its network connection for many connected features, so Bluetooth, app permissions and background operation all matter after the initial setup.

If the watch is not listed
- Move the watch within a short distance of the phone and make sure the screen is awake.
- Confirm that Bluetooth is enabled and that the phone has Wi-Fi or mobile data.
- Open HUAWEI Health again and use Devices or Add device; do not rely on the phone’s general Bluetooth-pairing page alone.
- Restart Bluetooth, then retry the search in HUAWEI Health.
- If the watch was previously connected to another phone, disconnect it there or use the watch’s new-phone command described later in this guide.
Pairing a Huawei watch with an iPhone
Huawei’s iPhone workflow requires an internet-connected iPhone during first-time pairing. The phone must run iOS 13.0 or later for the pairing process covered by Huawei’s guide.
- Install the HUAWEI Health version offered for your Apple ID region.
- Turn on Bluetooth and connect the iPhone to Wi-Fi or mobile data.
- Open HUAWEI Health and sign in to, or create, a HUAWEI ID.
- Open the device page and choose Add device. You can select the watch from the list or choose Scan and scan the QR code on the watch.
- Confirm the request on the watch and then accept the iPhone’s Bluetooth pairing prompt.
- Grant the permissions that correspond to the features you want to use.
If the first attempt fails, check the iPhone’s Bluetooth settings, ensure the watch is still on and nearby, then retry from HUAWEI Health. Pairing only from iOS Bluetooth settings does not complete the HUAWEI ID and app setup required for normal operation.
Important iPhone network limitation
An iPhone does not provide its mobile network to the watch over Bluetooth. That differs from the usual Android or Huawei-phone behavior. When the iPhone connection is unavailable, the watch can use Wi-Fi if a configured network is in range. If Bluetooth is lost and no Wi-Fi is available, only a properly enabled eSIM mobile connection can provide cellular data or calling where the model and carrier support it.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsActivate optional eSIM or cellular service
eSIM is an optional second stage, not a requirement for ordinary Bluetooth pairing. Availability depends on the exact watch model, the carrier, the country and the plan. Confirm eligibility and obtain the carrier’s QR code before starting.

Check every prerequisite
- The watch must be connected to the phone through Bluetooth.
- The phone must have internet access.
- The watch battery must be above 20 percent.
- The SIM on the phone must be the primary or default card for the supported service.
- On an iPhone, connect the watch to the internet first. Because an iPhone does not share its network to the watch over Bluetooth, the watch needs Wi-Fi or another available connection before the cellular setup can proceed.
- You need the carrier’s eSIM QR code and, if requested, a carrier verification code.
Use the correct HUAWEI Health menu
- Open HUAWEI Health and select the connected watch to open its device-details screen.
- Choose eSIM management.
- For a shared-number service, choose One number, two devices, then select Activate.
- For a separate watch number, choose Standalone number, then select Activate.
- Scan the carrier QR code when prompted.
- Enter the carrier verification code if the carrier requests one.
- Wait while the eSIM account downloads and configures on the watch.
Do not operate the watch during the download and configuration stage. Activation completes after the account has been installed and configured; the exact time and service behavior depend on the carrier.
When eSIM activation fails
Recheck the battery threshold, primary-SIM status, Bluetooth connection and phone internet access before trying again. On iPhone, verify that the watch itself has internet access rather than assuming the iPhone is sharing mobile data. A QR code can also be single-use or tied to a specific carrier account, so a rejected code may require the carrier to issue or reset the activation.
How the watch stays connected after activation
The watch can use three connection paths. Which one is active depends on the phone platform, Bluetooth availability, Wi-Fi range and whether eSIM has been enabled.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
| Connection path | When it is used | What it provides | Key limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bluetooth through an Android or Huawei phone | The paired phone is nearby and HUAWEI Health is connected | The watch generally uses the phone’s network for connected functions | Requires the phone, Bluetooth and background app operation |
| Bluetooth with an iPhone | The paired iPhone is nearby | App synchronisation and Bluetooth features | iPhone does not share its network to the watch over Bluetooth |
| Wi-Fi | Bluetooth phone connection is absent and a configured Wi-Fi network is available | Online functions that the watch supports over Wi-Fi | Only works where the watch can join an available network |
| eSIM mobile network | Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are unavailable, and an eligible eSIM is active | Independent cellular connectivity supported by the watch and carrier | Requires compatible hardware, country and carrier support, a plan and completed activation |
eSIM does not replace the initial HUAWEI Health setup. You still need to pair the watch, meet the carrier requirements and complete activation in the app.

Fix a Huawei watch that will not connect
The watch does not power on
- Reconnect it to the original charging equipment and allow charging to begin.
- Press and hold the Up button until the Huawei logo appears.
- Once the watch starts, select its language and return to HUAWEI Health.
If the watch repeatedly shuts down during setup, charge it longer before attempting pairing again.
HUAWEI Health cannot find the watch
- Keep the phone and watch close together.
- Confirm Bluetooth is on and the phone has Wi-Fi or mobile data.
- Open HUAWEI Health and start the search from Add device.
- Try scanning the QR code shown on the watch instead of selecting the model from search results.
- Restart Bluetooth and retry.
- If the watch is still associated with another phone, use Settings > System > Connect new phone on the watch, then begin the HUAWEI Health pairing flow again.
Pairing works but notifications or calls do not
Review the permissions granted to HUAWEI Health and allow the categories required by the feature. Also check that the operating system has not restricted HUAWEI Health’s background activity. Huawei specifically advises against swiping the app closed because that can interrupt notification and call delivery.
The iPhone pairing prompt does not appear
Verify that the iPhone meets the iOS 13.0 minimum described for the workflow, Bluetooth is enabled, and the phone is online. Retry from HUAWEI Health after checking the iPhone’s Bluetooth settings. The watch should remain powered on and close to the phone while the prompt is being generated.
Recommended Free Tools
eSIM setup stops or is unavailable
- Confirm that the watch battery is above 20 percent.
- Make sure the phone’s supported SIM is the primary or default card.
- Keep the watch connected by Bluetooth and the phone online.
- On iPhone, connect the watch to Wi-Fi or another available internet source first.
- Verify that the watch model, carrier, country and plan support the selected eSIM option.
- Use the correct menu: eSIM management > One number, two devices > Activate or eSIM management > Standalone number > Activate.
When the account is downloading, leave the watch alone until configuration finishes. If the carrier rejects the QR code or verification, contact the carrier because the account or code may need to be reset.

Changing to another phone
A Huawei watch can connect to only one phone at a time. Before moving it, understand that account continuity affects what happens to the watch.
Moving to a phone with the same HUAWEI ID
- On the watch, open Settings > System > Connect new phone.
- Install or open HUAWEI Health on the new phone and sign in with the same HUAWEI ID.
- Use Add device or scan the watch’s QR code.
- Confirm the pairing request on the watch and the Bluetooth prompt on the phone.
Using the same HUAWEI ID is the least disruptive path because account continuity is preserved.
Moving to a phone with a different HUAWEI ID
Huawei warns that pairing with a different HUAWEI ID can restore factory settings. That can erase account information, wallet cards, system data and app data. Back up or record anything you need before proceeding, and expect to configure the watch again after the reset.
Protect an active eSIM during a reset
If eSIM is already active, do not delete its configuration casually during a reset. Huawei warns that deleting it can require carrier deregistration and a new activation. Confirm with the carrier what must remain on the watch before accepting any reset or eSIM-removal prompt.
Choose the right activation path
| Your situation | Recommended path | What to check first |
|---|---|---|
| First setup with an Android or Huawei phone | Charge, power on, then pair in HUAWEI Health | Bluetooth, internet, HUAWEI ID and app permissions |
| First setup with an iPhone | Install the regional HUAWEI Health app and pair in the app | iOS 13.0 or later, Bluetooth and an internet connection |
| You only need notifications and phone-linked features | Use Bluetooth pairing; eSIM is unnecessary | Keep HUAWEI Health active in the background |
| You need service away from the phone | Pair first, then activate a supported eSIM option | Model, carrier, country, plan, QR code and battery above 20% |
| You are changing phones | Use Settings > System > Connect new phone | Whether the new phone uses the same HUAWEI ID |
Final activation checklist
- The watch displays its normal home screen after language selection.
- HUAWEI Health shows the watch under the device page.
- The phone and watch have completed the Bluetooth pairing prompts.
- Required notification, call and health permissions are enabled.
- HUAWEI Health is allowed to run in the background.
- For iPhone, you understand that Bluetooth does not share the iPhone’s network with the watch.
- For eSIM, the carrier plan is eligible, the QR code has been accepted and configuration has finished.
- If you changed phones, you used the new-phone command and considered the HUAWEI ID and eSIM-reset consequences.
Once these checks pass, the Huawei watch is activated. Bluetooth through the paired phone is the default connection route; Wi-Fi can take over when available, and an enabled eSIM can provide cellular connectivity when the phone and Wi-Fi are unavailable.
