When does Coral Island 1.4 come out?
As of October 19, 2026, Update 1.4 has no exact public release date. The official announcement from Stairway Games on October 16, 2026 says that Coral Island is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 “this winter,” alongside the 1.4 “Kids Grow Up” update.
Recommended Free Tools
“Winter 2026” is the only timing window that has been announced. It is not a specific day, and it should not be treated as a guarantee that all platforms will receive the patch simultaneously. Wait for Stairway Games’ final launch notice before planning a new playthrough, scheduling multiplayer or family milestones, or assuming that a particular platform has received the build.

- Decide whether you want to run your Zoo above board... or break the law and pocket the extra cash
What you can do before launch
- Keep the game installed on the platform where you play.
- Enable automatic updates if you want the patch downloaded as soon as your platform distributes it.
- Back up or otherwise protect important save data using the storage options available on your platform.
- Check the in-game version number and the developer’s launch-day notes after the update finishes.
There is no published pre-release button, code, quest or menu that unlocks the 1.4 family systems early. If the title screen still reports an earlier version, you are not running the update.
What Update 1.4 adds
The headline feature is a full growth path for children, supported by new family conversations and stories. The update also changes everyday systems such as cooking and fishing. Some announced features are available as mechanical additions, while the family content is described at a high level and still lacks an official unlock route.
Four child life stages
Stairway Games says children now progress through four stages:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Baby
- Toddler
- School-age child
- Teenager
The announcement does not publish the amount of in-game time required for each transition, whether a calendar season controls growth, or whether a relationship level, quest or household condition is needed. Treat the four-stage sequence as the confirmed design, not as a timetable.
Interests and personalities
Children can develop interests such as music, sports, baking or gaming. These interests shape their personalities and their experiences as teenagers. The announcement does not explain whether you choose an interest directly, influence it through gifts and activities, or receive it randomly. It also does not list every possible interest or show whether interests can change.
For a practical first playthrough, pay attention to the child’s dialogue and any new activity prompts after the patch. Record choices that appear to affect an interest, but do not assume that a single interaction permanently determines a personality until the final notes or the game itself confirms it.
New spouse and family interactions
Spouses receive parent-related dialogue, interactions and family cutscenes. These additions are intended to make the household feel different as children move through the four stages. No specific spouse, relationship rank, season, quest chain or household upgrade is identified as a prerequisite.
If you load an established household and do not immediately see a new scene, that does not prove the content is missing. The event may be tied to an unlisted time, location or growth condition. Check the child’s current stage, speak with household members on several in-game days, and consult the final patch notes before starting over.
Children in Starlet Town grow too
The update is not limited to the player’s household. Children in Starlet Town, including Archie, also grow into teenagers and receive new stories and interactions. This means town dialogue can change even if your own character has no child.
Because the announcement does not provide a schedule for each town child, avoid expecting every character to change on the same day. Visit the relevant locations after updating and look for revised dialogue, portraits or story prompts as the game progresses.
A Tedak Siten-inspired ceremony
Stairway Games describes a cutscene inspired by the Javanese Tedak Siten tradition, celebrating a child’s first steps onto the ground. The announcement identifies the cultural inspiration but does not state the exact trigger, location, season or whether the player must select an option.

The description should not be read as a promise that the ceremony is available immediately on every save. Its trigger belongs to the final implementation, so use the in-game event prompts and launch documentation rather than trying to force it through an unconfirmed sequence.
Cooking improvements
The cooking interface is being updated so recipes can be filtered by two useful criteria:
- Buffs: find recipes associated with a desired gameplay effect.
- NPC gift preferences: identify recipes that match what a particular character likes as a gift.
The filter changes how you find recipes; it does not replace the ingredients or unlocks required to cook them. Open the updated Cooking UI, choose the filter for buffs or NPC gift preferences, review the resulting recipe list, and then confirm that you have the required ingredients and any normal recipe access. If a filter returns no result, clear the active filter before concluding that a recipe disappeared.
Fishing bobbers
Fishing bobbers are a new customization system. The official description gives a two-part route: unlock bobbers through Fishing Mastery, then buy designs at the Beach Shack.

- Travel to the Beach Shack and open its shop inventory.
- Buy an available bobber design.
- Equip or select the design through the fishing equipment interface, if the game presents a separate selection step.
The announcement does not specify the mastery level, price, inventory rotation or whether all designs are available at once. Do not treat a missing design as a bug until you have checked your mastery progress, the shop’s current inventory and the final item list.
Lighting and other quality-of-life changes
Lighting enhancements and additional quality-of-life improvements are announced, but Stairway Games says a fuller list will arrive with the launch-day information. The available announcement therefore cannot establish every visual change, setting or performance impact. After updating, review the game’s settings and patch notes before assuming that an option has been removed or that a lighting change indicates a graphics error.
How to install and access the update on each platform
Update 1.4 is distributed as a game update, not as a separate family-content download. The exact menu wording can vary by system and account region, but the safe process is to update the existing installation, confirm the version, and then load your save.
| Platform configuration | What the announcement confirms | What to do at launch |
|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch 2 | The Switch 2 release is announced to arrive alongside Update 1.4 in winter 2026. | Install the Switch 2 game update or download, then verify the title-screen version before loading a save. |
| PlayStation 5 | Controller support includes DualSense haptic feedback. | Allow the console to check for the game update, install it, and start the game after the download completes. |
| Xbox Series X|S | Controller support includes Xbox Wireless Controller vibration. | Install the available game update from your library or the console’s update prompt, then check the version in-game. |
| Xbox PC | Controller support includes Xbox Wireless Controller vibration. | Use the installed game client’s update function, wait for verification to finish, and confirm the new version at startup. |
| Steam Deck | Controller support includes haptic feedback. | Update the installed game in your library, restart the title if it was running, and check the title screen. |
| Steam PC | Controller support includes Xbox and PlayStation 5 DualSense haptic feedback. | Let the Steam client download the update, restart the game, and verify the version before opening a save. |
The six configurations above describe announced controller-feature support, not a promise that every platform receives an identical rollout minute. Regional storefront timing, certification and platform availability can affect when a patch appears.
Steam PC and Steam Deck
- Open your library and select Coral Island.
- Start the update if the client has not begun it automatically.
- Wait until the download and installation are complete; do not launch while files are still being applied.
- Restart the game and read the version shown on the title screen or in the game’s information panel.
- Load a copy of your existing save only after the version has changed to 1.4.
If the update does not appear, restart the client, check the download queue and confirm that the game is installed on the account that owns it. A delayed listing is not evidence that the update is unavailable permanently.
PlayStation 5
- Highlight the game in the home screen or game library.
- Open the title’s options menu and use the console’s update-check command.
- Install the patch and wait for the console to finish copying or applying files.
- Launch the game and verify the version before opening a save.
DualSense haptic feedback is listed as supported. If you cannot feel it, check the controller and console vibration settings before treating it as an update failure.
Xbox Series X|S and Xbox PC
- Open the game library and select Coral Island.
- Use the platform’s update option or allow the queued update to complete.
- Restart the game after installation.
- Confirm the title-screen version and test controller vibration in a safe area.
Xbox Wireless Controller vibration is announced for both Xbox Series X|S and Xbox PC. System-level vibration settings can disable the feature even when the game supports it.

- Open the game from the Switch 2 home screen or software library.
- Use the software update command when the console offers one, or allow automatic updating if enabled.
- Wait for the console to finish installing the update.
- Start the game and verify that the title screen identifies the 1.4 build before loading your farm.
Switch 2 is the platform named in the announcement for the winter 2026 launch. The announcement does not say that existing owners must buy the game again, and it does not state that 1.4 is exclusive to Switch 2.
Do you need a new save for 1.4?
No official statement currently requires a new save. At the same time, the announcement does not guarantee that every feature appears immediately in an existing save. The only accurate answer before launch documentation is: the requirement is unknown.
Start with your existing save after installing the update. This is the least disruptive approach and lets you check whether children, spouses and town residents receive the new systems automatically. Keep a backup or separate copy where your platform permits it. If the final notes specify a milestone or recommend a new file, follow those instructions instead of deleting an established farm.
How to check an existing save
- Update the game fully and verify the 1.4 version.
- Load the save in which you expect family or town changes.
- Check the household and note the child’s current stage, dialogue and available interactions.
- Visit relevant Starlet Town locations to look for revised child dialogue and stories.
- Open Cooking and Fishing to confirm that the new filters and mastery-linked bobbers are present.
- Read the final launch notes if a feature does not appear.
Do not create a new save solely because a family scene does not trigger on the first day. The developer has not published a universal immediate-unlock rule or a universal new-save rule.
How access works for the family systems
The family systems differ from cooking and fishing because the announcement describes what they add but not the exact route to them. There is no confirmed quest name, relationship threshold, season, child age timer or household requirement to list.
If you already have children
Load the established household after the update and continue normal play. Watch for changes in the child’s stage, interests, personality dialogue and spouse interactions. Check several in-game days and ordinary household locations before assuming a scene is unavailable.
If you are starting a new household
There is no announced instruction to begin a new file. Create a new save only if you want a fresh story, not because the 1.4 announcement says it is mandatory. The game’s final notes may clarify whether new households and existing households use identical triggers.
If you want the Tedak Siten-inspired ceremony
The ceremony celebrates a child’s first steps onto the ground, but its trigger is not documented. Continue the child’s ordinary growth and respond to any event prompt the game provides. Avoid relying on unverified schedules or forcing a date through system-clock changes, since no official route has been published.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Using the new cooking filters efficiently
The updated Cooking UI is designed for two common decisions: choosing a meal for its buff and choosing a recipe as an NPC gift.
Finding a buff
- Open Cooking.
- Select the buff-oriented filter.
- Review the recipes returned by the filter.
- Choose a recipe for which you have the ingredients and normal cooking access.
- Cook it and confirm the resulting effect in the item or status information.
The filter helps locate recipes; it does not establish that every buff is available at the same point in progression.
Choosing a gift
- Open the recipe list in Cooking.
- Choose the NPC gift-preference filter.
- Select the relevant character or preference entry if the interface asks for one.
- Compare the returned recipes with your ingredient stock.
- Cook the item and give it through the normal gifting interaction.
If an NPC does not appear in the filter, clear the search, confirm that the update installed correctly and check the final item documentation. The announcement does not state whether every NPC has a dedicated filter entry.

Fishing bobbers: mastery, purchase and troubleshooting
Bobbers are not presented as an automatic item for every player. The confirmed sequence is Fishing Mastery first, Beach Shack purchase second.
Unlocking a bobber
Fish normally until your Fishing Mastery progression unlocks bobber access. The exact mastery level has not been announced, so the game’s own mastery screen is the authority for the threshold.

Buying a design
Once unlocked, visit the Beach Shack and inspect its inventory. The announcement says a variety of designs can be bought there. It does not state prices, stock rotation or whether a design is cosmetic only, so read each item description before spending currency.
If the Beach Shack has no bobbers
- Confirm that the game is running Update 1.4.
- Check the Fishing Mastery screen for the bobber unlock.
- Re-enter the Beach Shack or revisit it after the shop’s normal refresh.
- Check whether the design is already owned or equipped.
- Consult the launch-day item list if the inventory still differs from the announcement.
Controller features and platform expectations
The announcement names vibration or haptic support for six platform configurations. These are input features, not separate content packages. A controller feature may require compatible hardware, a current system setting and the correct connection mode.
- Switch 2: HD Rumble.
- PlayStation 5: DualSense haptic feedback.
- Xbox Series X|S: Xbox Wireless Controller vibration.
- Xbox PC: Xbox Wireless Controller vibration.
- Steam Deck: haptic feedback.
- Steam PC: Xbox and PlayStation 5 DualSense haptic feedback.
The announcement does not provide a comparative graphics mode, frame-rate target, resolution or cross-save policy. Do not infer those specifications from controller support.
What remains unconfirmed at launch
Several practical questions are intentionally unanswered by the current announcement:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- The exact release date and launch time.
- Whether all platforms update at the same moment.
- Whether every feature appears in an existing save immediately.
- Whether family content has a quest, season, relationship or other progression gate.
- The mastery level and price for fishing bobbers.
- The complete list of cooking filters, bobber designs and quality-of-life changes.
- Whether any platform-specific ownership or upgrade rule applies to the Switch 2 release.
Use the final patch notes as the deciding source for these points. Until then, a guide that supplies exact dates, unlock levels or a mandatory new-save instruction would be adding information the developer has not published.
Common access problems and the safest fixes
The game still shows an older version
Close the game, check the platform’s download queue, restart the client or console, and run the update check again. Verify that the installation completed rather than merely being queued. If the store page has not changed, wait for the platform rollout instead of repeatedly deleting the game.
New family dialogue is not appearing
Confirm the 1.4 version, load the relevant save, and play through several ordinary in-game days. Check both household members and town children. Because no trigger is published, the absence of an immediate scene cannot be diagnosed as a save incompatibility.
The cooking filter looks empty
Clear all active filters, reopen the Cooking UI, and apply only one criterion at a time. Check ingredients and normal recipe access. An empty result can mean that no recipe matches the selected buff or gift preference, not that the update failed.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesBobbers are missing
Check Fishing Mastery before visiting the Beach Shack. The documented route requires the mastery unlock first. If the unlock is present but no design is listed, inspect the shop again after its normal refresh and check the final launch notes for inventory rules.
Haptics or vibration do not work
Confirm that the controller is compatible with the platform configuration named by the developer, then check the system’s vibration or haptic setting. Test another game or controller connection if necessary. Support in the announcement does not override a disabled system setting or a controller that is connected in a mode without haptic feedback.
Quick Recap
Practical launch checklist
- Wait for the dated release notice rather than relying on the winter window alone.
- Install the update on your platform and verify the 1.4 version in-game.
- Keep an existing save available; no new-save requirement has been announced.
- Check children, spouses and Starlet Town children for the new growth and story content.
- Use Cooking filters for buffs and NPC gift preferences.
- Advance Fishing Mastery, then shop for bobbers at the Beach Shack.
- Review the final patch notes for family triggers, platform timing and quality-of-life details.
