Some community utilities have redirected Home-button behavior using an accessibility service, but that approach is not an Amazon-supported setting and its compatibility depends on the device, software version and utility.
Installing a launcher is not the same as replacing Fire TV Home
Amazon describes Fire OS as a fork of Android, but Fire TV devices do not all use the same operating-system generation. Amazon’s overview lists different Fire OS families and separates Vega OS devices, so a Fire TV product name alone does not establish that Android-era instructions apply. See Amazon’s Fire OS overview for the device and OS distinctions.

Amazon’s ADB instructions describe how to install an app from outside the Appstore—known as sideloading—and how to start an app. For example, the documented commands include adb install <path-to-apk-file> and adb shell am start -n package/activity. These steps install or open an app; they do not, by themselves, change the system’s Home-button destination. The instructions are in Amazon’s Install and Run Your App guide, last updated October 29, 2020.
How a community utility can redirect the Home button
Launcher Hijack’s project help describes a separate method: choose an installed launcher, then enable the utility’s accessibility service so it can redirect Home-button behavior to that launcher. This is a community implementation, not an official Fire TV launcher switch. Its help file documents limitations and troubleshooting for that utility, so its behavior should not be generalized to other apps or current Fire TV software. See the project’s HELP.md.

What an Amazon update might change
Amazon says most Fire devices receive Fire OS updates over the air, and devices may receive versions at different times. Its customer support documentation also says software updates arrive automatically when a device is connected to the internet. As a result, two Fire TV owners following the same instructions may be on different software versions. Check the exact model and installed software before relying on a community method; Amazon’s public documentation does not provide a current third-party-launcher compatibility matrix.
Launcher Hijack’s help file contains a specific update warning: “Please disable LauncherHijack in accessibility settings during Fire OS updates.” That documents a compatibility issue for this project and its described setup. It does not show that every Amazon update breaks every launcher. The warning is in the project’s update guidance; follow instructions relevant to the utility and software version you actually use rather than treating this as a universal rule.

Amazon’s Fire TV software security update table lists security-update support dates by model. For example, it lists the Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Generation) through December 31, 2030. That date is a security-update support horizon, not a guarantee of the device’s total lifespan or of launcher compatibility.

What to check before following launcher instructions
- Identify the exact Fire TV model and installed software version; do not assume instructions transfer between Fire OS generations or to Vega OS devices.
- Determine whether a guide only sideloads and opens an app or also attempts to redirect the Home button.
- If Home redirection is involved, check whether it relies on an accessibility service and whether the utility documents update-related steps for your version.
- Distinguish Amazon’s app-installation and update documentation from a community project’s version-specific notes. Neither source establishes universal current compatibility for third-party launchers.
