Choose a beta link only if you intend to test prerelease software. Thunderbird’s October 2024 launch announcement also listed a GitHub APK, but said it does not receive updates.
Where to download Thunderbird for Android
Open Thunderbird’s official mobile download page and select the regular Google Play or F-Droid listing. Thunderbird identifies these mobile distributions as officially maintained and distributed by Thunderbird Mobile. Using a store listing is the straightforward choice for most people who want an everyday installation.

The page also lists beta downloads separately. Make sure you select a regular mobile app listing rather than a beta listing unless you deliberately want to try prerelease software. The available official information identifies the channels but does not establish current differences in features or stability.

Which download option should you choose?
| Option | Official route | Best suited to | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Regular release | Google Play or F-Droid through Thunderbird’s download page | Everyday use | The official page lists these as regular mobile downloads maintained and distributed by Thunderbird Mobile. |
| Beta | Google Play Beta or F-Droid Beta through Thunderbird’s download page | People who specifically want to test prerelease software | Beta listings are separate from regular releases. Current stability and feature differences are not established by the cited official information. |
| APK | GitHub Releases, reached through Thunderbird’s official link | Someone who needs a direct APK and is prepared to handle updates separately | Thunderbird’s October 30, 2024 launch announcement described this route as “apk only, no updates.” |
If you choose the APK, use Thunderbird’s official link rather than a third-party APK mirror. The launch announcement’s update caveat means you should not assume GitHub will keep that installation updated for you.

Android requirements and release status
Thunderbird’s October 30, 2024 launch announcement said the app required Android 5 or later. That is a dated minimum requirement, not a guarantee that every device running that Android version is eligible in a store today. Check the Google Play or F-Droid listing for your device’s current compatibility.
The same announcement said the first stable release was available then. If you are wondering when Thunderbird for Android is coming out, it has already launched; use the current official download page to find its distribution links. A live version number, file size, rating, and current device eligibility are not established here.
