Students can use an iPad or Mac as a compact editorial studio by moving through six jobs: plan, write, design, record, edit and share. Apple’s education examples show how its familiar apps can support those steps; they are workflow ideas, not evidence that one app or device is best.
What an editorial studio means for a student
An editorial studio is a repeatable way to take an idea from notes to something ready to share. The finished work might be a page-laid-out publication, a visual presentation, a podcast or a video. A student does not need to use every app in every project: choose the tools that match the format and the assignment.

Apple’s education foundations material includes Pages, Keynote, iMovie and GarageBand for iPad and Mac learning activities. Those examples cover page layout, presentations, storyboarding, editing and sharing, but do not prescribe one publication format.
Build a workflow around the piece you want to make
1. Research and plan in Notes
Collect source material, questions, ideas and a rough outline before production. For a podcast, Apple’s Mac example starts with research and design, and uses Notes to organize ideas and create a script. Apple Education Community

2. Draft or lay out the written piece in Pages
Use Pages when the project needs written copy or page layout. Apple includes Pages in its iPad and Mac foundations material and identifies page-layout skills; it does not require a particular publication type. Apple education resources
3. Make artwork and visual elements in Keynote
Keynote can support a visual presentation or artwork combining photos and text. In Apple’s podcast workflow, it is also used to make cover art and episode graphics. Apple Education Community

4. Record and edit audio in GarageBand
GarageBand is the recording and audio-editing step in Apple’s Mac podcast example, and Apple’s student project examples include podcast recording on iPad. Record a clean take, then edit it into the sequence the project needs. Apple Education Community

For a video project, Apple’s iPad classroom examples use iMovie for editing, effects and green-screen work. Apple also names iMovie as a beginner tool for transforming video. Apple education resources

6. Check the destination before sharing
Sharing is part of publishing, not an afterthought. Apple Podcasts for Creators describes capture, editing, show artwork and sharing as parts of podcast creation, and names GarageBand and iMovie as beginner editing tools. Its guidance does not establish a best hosting service or cover every destination’s current submission rules. A simple podcast workflow on Mac or iPad
For a podcast, a practical sequence is Notes for research and script → GarageBand for recording and editing → Keynote for cover art and episode graphics. Apple presents this as a three-app Mac workflow and says it also works on iPad. It is an example rather than a requirement: a shorter assignment may need only one or two of these steps.
