What SIM card does the Galaxy S22 use?

An eSIM is a digital SIM embedded in the phone. It is activated through a supported carrier plan, so there is no card to insert. Samsung’s U.S. Galaxy S22 specification sheet lists eSIM as an additional feature, but that listing does not guarantee service on every model or network.
Can the Galaxy S22 use two SIMs?
Samsung describes dual-SIM use as SIM1 (physical SIM) plus SIM2 (physical SIM or eSIM). However, the tray and eSIM support are not identical across all regional and carrier versions. Samsung’s Ireland support guidance describes two-sided trays on models designed for dual SIM; that should not be taken to mean every S22 has the same tray.

Before relying on two lines, verify the handset’s model number and tray configuration, then confirm that your carrier supports eSIM on that particular model. Samsung notes that using a nano-SIM and eSIM together may reduce data transfer speed in some areas; it is a possibility, not a guaranteed effect.
How to insert a physical SIM card
- Use the ejection pin in the SIM-tray hole to release the tray. Keep the pin perpendicular to the hole and pull the tray out gently.
- Place a nano-SIM in the matching tray position, with its gold contacts facing outward. Make sure it sits securely and is not misaligned.
- Gently return the tray to the phone.
Samsung warns that incorrect placement can prevent the phone from recognizing the SIM. Do not force the tray or card.

How to activate an eSIM
- Make sure your carrier offers eSIM service for your plan and Galaxy S22 model.
- Open Settings > Connections > SIM card manager > Add mobile plan.
- Follow the on-screen instructions. If your carrier provided a QR code, select the QR-code scan option and complete the setup prompts.
Menu names or screens may differ depending on software and model. If Add mobile plan is missing, or activation does not complete, check with your carrier about support for the exact device variant.

If the S22 does not recognize the SIM
- Confirm the card is a nano-SIM.
- Check that it is seated securely in the correct tray position and aligned properly.
- Remove and reseat the tray gently. If the phone still does not recognize the card, contact your carrier to check the SIM and service.
