You can use the CRTV to look for nearby threats, then choose whether to hide, run, distract or fight. The developers say enemies hunt players who attract too much attention, so survival also depends on what you reveal and how you manage exposure.
Does Silent Hill: Townfall have stealth?
Yes. Writer and director Jon McKellan describes stealth as an important survival strategy, supported by the CRTV, environmental opportunities and a peek system. It is part of the encounter design rather than a separate mode: players can avoid danger, but they can also confront it.

Konami released Silent Hill: Townfall on September 24, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Steam and the Epic Games Store. Developed by Screen Burn Interactive and co-published by Annapurna Interactive and KONAMI, it is a full-length, first-person game following Simon Ordell, who washes ashore on the remote Scottish island of St. Amelia. PlayStation’s developer interview outlines the stealth and encounter options.

Can you avoid enemies in Silent Hill: Townfall?
The developers describe several responses to an encounter: run, distract, hide or fight. The CRTV and the peek system can help players gather information and avoid danger, while environmental opportunities may provide ways to manage a threat. The available official descriptions do not establish a guaranteed way to bypass every enemy or specify a universal tactic.

- Experienced entirely in first person, explore, evade, and survive using a limited set of weapons and tools, including a pocket television used to tune into unstable signals. Evasion is tense; combat is frenetic, while narrative driven puzzles reveal a truth that refuses to stay submerged.
- SILENT HILL: Townfall is a full-length, self-contained psychological horror set against the cold, isolated backdrop of Scotland, 1996
That flexibility changes the usual survival-horror question from “Can I defeat this enemy?” to “Should I engage, evade or redirect it?” Choosing not to fight can be a deliberate outcome, but it still involves assessing risk rather than assuming an encounter is harmless.
What does the CRTV do in Silent Hill: Townfall?
The CRTV is a handheld device that uses analog-inspired audio and video signals. Screen Burn describes it as an active tool: it can help locate nearby threats, receive signals that reveal story material and assist with challenges. Its visual signal capabilities also support stealth. McKellan has said the team wanted players to rely on the device while feeling uneasy about relying on it too much.

- Day One Edition Bonus: CRTV Style: Rusted, CRTV Style: Beach Edition
- Returning to an island town to ‘put things right’, Simon Ordell descends into a world of tense evasion, explosive confrontations, and mind-bending puzzles that slowly surface the truth of St. Amelia
- Simon Ordell is called back to the island of St. Amelia to ‘put things right’, encountering a town lying quiet beneath a heavy fog, seemingly abandoned but not at rest
- Venturing deeper, and driven to understand his connection to the place and its inhabitants, Simon begins to discover fragments of a past rising to the surface
- Experienced entirely in first person, Simon must explore, evade, and survive using a limited set of weapons and tools, including the CRTV, a pocket television used to tune into unstable signals. Evasion is tense; combat is frenetic, while narrative driven puzzles reveal a truth that refuses to stay submerged
That tension gives information-gathering a cost in atmosphere, even as it offers a way to read the surroundings. The official descriptions do not specify a detection meter, exact sensing rules or guaranteed information for each use, so the CRTV is best understood as a survival aid—not a promise that threats will always be clearly identified.

McKellan says that if players draw too much attention, enemies will dynamically hunt them and use their senses to track them. That makes stealth a matter of managing exposure as well as finding cover: noisy or conspicuous actions may raise the danger of pursuit.

- Day One Edition Bonus: CRTV Style: Rusted, CRTV Style: Beach Edition
- When Simon Ordell is called back to the island of St. Amelia to "put things in order", he meets a city lying quietly in dense fog, seemingly abandoned, yet anything but dormant
- After venturing further to understand his connection to this place and its inhabitants, he gradually discovers fragments of the past rising to the surface
- Simon must explore, evade and survive from a first-person perspective. It uses a limited arsenal of weapons and tools, including the CRTV: a portable TV to receive unstable signals
- The dodging is tension, the battles are hectic and the story-based puzzles reveal a truth that does not want to remain hidden
The developers have not publicly detailed a numerical alert system or precise rules for how enemies detect Simon. It would be misleading to describe specific sound thresholds, sight ranges or a predictable detection sequence based on the information available.
Does Townfall favor stealth over combat?
Not as a universal rule. Asked about the balance, McKellan said the team wants players to experiment and choose an approach suited to each situation rather than forcing one playstyle. Stealth is meaningful, but the developers also describe combat, escape and distraction as valid options. The intended balance is flexible; the official comments do not claim that avoiding fights is always safer or more effective.

How does first-person gameplay change Silent Hill?
A first-person viewpoint limits how much of the space Simon can see at once, making threats feel closer and spatial awareness less certain. The developers connect this perspective to the CRTV and to tactile, detailed puzzles. PlayStation’s feature on the PS5 version also emphasizes 3D audio: sound helps players judge what may be nearby when it is outside their field of view.

These are platform-specific features that reinforce awareness and tension; they do not replace observation or guarantee that a threat can be located precisely. The game’s horror, PlayStation says, leans more on tension and escalating uncertainty than on jump scares and gore.

What the stealth design means for players
- Look for information: The CRTV can help locate nearby threats and receive signals, making it part of both exploration and stealth.
- Consider more than fighting: Hiding, running and distraction are among the responses described by the developers.
- Pay attention to exposure: The developers say drawing too much attention can prompt enemies to hunt Simon.
- Expect uncertainty: First-person visibility and the emphasis on sound make observation and listening important, particularly on PS5.
Konami reported more than 17.8 million Silent Hill franchise units worldwide as of the end of June 2026, counting units shipped, store downloads and subscription services. That is a franchise-wide figure, not sales for Townfall. The European launch announcement confirms the game’s release and platforms.
