Free updates add selected racers, events, modes, gadgets and systems to the game for everyone on supported platforms. Season Pass 1 and Season Pass 2 are separate purchases built around themed crossover packs that generally combine playable racers, a vehicle, a course, music, emotes and sound effects. The base game launched on September 25, 2025 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch, with Steam and Epic Games Store versions following on September 26; a Nintendo Switch 2 version is also available. Dates and announced line-ups can change, so treat the official schedules as the current reference.
How CrossWorlds content is delivered
SEGA describes a post-launch plan in which new material arrives through free updates and the Season Pass. Those are different access routes:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Free updates: available without buying a Season Pass, although the base game and any platform requirements still apply. They can add characters, festivals, songs, modes, gadgets and other systems.
- Season Pass content: paid crossover packs grouped into Season Pass 1 or Season Pass 2. Packs are separate from ordinary updates and normally include a character group plus themed racing content.
- Individual packs versus a pass: owning individual crossover packs does not grant the dual-pass Super Shadow bonus. Season Pass 1 and Season Pass 2 are separate purchases.
The game itself supports cross-play, up to 12 online racers and one to four players locally. At launch, SEGA listed 23 Sonic-universe characters, more than 70 gadgets and more than 70,000 machine combinations, giving the free systems and paid additions a large customization framework to plug into. These figures come from SEGA’s 2025 launch information at its launch announcement.
What happens during a CrossWorlds race
Seasonal characters and crossover courses use the same defining race structure as the base game. A three-lap event is not simply the same circuit repeated:

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Lap one: you begin on the original course.
- Lap two: Travel Rings transport the field into a transformed CrossWorld. The setting, route and hazards change, and gates can trigger Frenzy events.
- Lap three: the race returns to the original course, but the route is now altered by new shortcuts, obstacles, Rings and item placements.
SEGA calls Travel Rings the game’s biggest feature because they move racers between worlds and “completely” change the race flow. The explanation and launch examples are in SEGA’s September 25, 2025 release. A crossover course therefore affects strategy beyond its scenery: you must learn the transformed middle lap and the changed final-lap route before judging a machine or character.
Season Pass 1: the first crossover line-up
Season Pass 1 starts with three Sonic Prime racers and then expands through six announced themed packs. The Xbox store listing gives release windows from the fourth quarter of 2025 through October 2026; those windows are not a guarantee that every date remains unchanged. The pack contents below follow SEGA’s announcement at the official CrossWorlds news page and the pass listing at Xbox.
| Pack or group | Playable racers | Vehicle and world content | Schedule information |
|---|---|---|---|
| Initial Sonic Prime content | Nine, Rusty Rose, Knuckles the Dread | Part of the Season Pass 1 character launch; additional pack details are listed separately below. | Included at Season Pass 1 launch. |
| Minecraft | Steve, Alex, Creeper | Minecart and Minecraft World | Xbox lists a window within the Q4 2025–October 2026 Season Pass 1 schedule. |
| SpongeBob SquarePants | SpongeBob, Patrick | Patty Wagon and Bikini Bottom | Window announced in the same Season Pass 1 schedule; check the official listing for revisions. |
| PAC-MAN | PAC-MAN, Team Ghost | PAC-MAN Mobile and PAC-Village/Maze | Window announced; timing may be revised. |
| Mega Man | Mega Man, Proto Man | Rush Roadster and Wily Castle | Window announced; timing may be revised. |
| Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles | Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, Donatello | Pizzafire Van and New York City | Window announced; timing may be revised. |
| Avatar Legends | Aang, Katara | Gliding Air and Lion Turtle Island | Window announced, extending through October 2026 in the Xbox schedule. |
The normal pattern is a bundle rather than a character-only drop: racers arrive with a recognizable machine and a themed course or world, alongside music, emotes and sounds. The exact timing should be checked against the current official listing because the announcement uses windows rather than immutable dates.

Are all Season Pass 1 characters playable?
Yes. The named crossover characters in the Season Pass 1 announcement are playable racers, not merely costumes or non-player opponents: Steve, Alex, Creeper, SpongeBob, Patrick, PAC-MAN, Team Ghost, Mega Man, Proto Man, Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, Donatello, Aang and Katara, in addition to Nine, Rusty Rose and Knuckles the Dread. Each pack also identifies its associated vehicle and course/world. The announcement does not describe every item as a separate vehicle for every character, so do not assume a one-racer/one-machine rule beyond the specifically named machines.

Free updates already announced or released
Free content is not the same product as a Season Pass pack. It can add substantial systems and events without requiring either pass.
Axel update — August 26, 2026
The Axel update added Axel, the Devolada Yellow Jack machine, two jukebox songs and a limited Axel Festival. SEGA’s update notice is dated August 26, 2026 and is available at the official game site. The festival is described as limited, so its availability should not be treated as permanent content.
Season 2-era free update features — October 2026 announcement
SEGA’s October 2026 Season 2 reveal describes a year of free updates with three headline additions:
- Aigis from Persona 3 Reload, using the Paladion Dressy machine.
- A McLaren Racing car with a commemorative Sonic variant.
- Bayonetta in the Butterfly Witch machine.
The same free update adds a Duel mode for one-versus-one play online or offline, a Super Slot, 15 new gadgets and broader COM-racer availability after you complete a Grand Prix. The dated announcement is at SEGA Japan’s October 13, 2026 release. These additions are separate from the paid Season 2 crossover packs even though they were revealed together.

Season Pass 2: what is confirmed
SEGA announced Season Pass 2 for fall 2026. The initial announcement names Godzilla and Evangelion and promises four additional crossover packs. At the time of the October 2026 reveal, the complete six-pack line-up and every individual vehicle, course, music track, emote and sound were not all specified in the available announcement. The official Season Pass 2 page is here.
That means Godzilla and Evangelion are announced Season Pass 2 themes, but a reader should not infer unannounced characters, machines or courses. The pass also should not be confused with the free Aigis, McLaren and Bayonetta update content: those are delivered through the update channel, while Season Pass 2 is a paid product.
| Question | Season Pass 1 | Season Pass 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Purchase relationship | Separate paid pass. | Separate paid pass; owning Pass 1 does not include it. |
| Confirmed themes | Minecraft, SpongeBob SquarePants, PAC-MAN, Mega Man, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Avatar Legends, plus Sonic Prime racers. | Godzilla and Evangelion named initially; four more crossover packs promised. |
| Content detail available | Racers, machines and worlds are identified for the announced packs. | Full pack-by-pack details are not all stated in the announcement. |
| Free content revealed alongside it | Not applicable to the pass itself. | Aigis, McLaren Racing car, Bayonetta, Duel, Super Slot and 15 gadgets are free-update content, not pass entitlements. |

Platforms, editions and what to buy
Base-game platforms
The launch platform spread is broad: PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and later Nintendo Switch 2. SEGA lists Steam and Epic Games Store release on September 26, 2025, one day after the console launch. Cross-play and online support mean the platform decision is mainly about where you want to play and which edition is sold in your region.
Digital Deluxe Edition
The Digital Deluxe Edition includes the base game and Season Pass 1. It is the straightforward choice for someone who already wants the first crossover line-up. Season Pass 2 is separate, so Deluxe ownership should not be read as a two-season entitlement.
Physical Nintendo Switch edition
SEGA documents a physical Nintendo Switch edition. Physical availability, language, included codes and stock vary by region; check the box and retailer listing before purchase. SEGA also documents Japan-only Amazon.co.jp game bundles, which should not be assumed to exist in other markets. No universal price is stated in the available information, so compare the regional base-game, Deluxe and pass listings rather than applying a price from another country.

- Buy only the base game if you want the core Travel Ring race format, launch roster and free updates.
- Choose Digital Deluxe if you specifically want the complete announced Season Pass 1 package and prefer one purchase.
- Choose a standalone Season Pass 1 or individual pack only if you already own the base game and want selected crossovers.
- Wait for a Season Pass 2 listing if Godzilla, Evangelion or its later packs are your priority; Pass 1 does not include Pass 2.
- Before checkout, verify the platform generation, region, physical-versus-digital format and whether a listing includes a pass or only the base game.
How to read the release schedule
There are three different statuses to distinguish:
- Released: content with a dated update notice, such as Axel on August 26, 2026.
- Announced with a window: Season Pass 1 packs listed across Q4 2025 through October 2026.
- Announced without full detail: Season Pass 2’s Godzilla, Evangelion and four additional promised packs.
SEGA explicitly notes that content and dates remain subject to change. For the most reliable status, compare the game’s current official news pages with the store page for your platform; an old trailer or retailer description may show an earlier window.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
What the free systems add to the long-term game
CrossWorlds’ progression is not limited to collecting crossover characters. More than 70 gadgets and more than 70,000 machine combinations create a tuning layer, while the post-launch systems expand how those tools are used. Duel gives players a focused one-versus-one format online or offline; the Super Slot changes the available slot behavior; and the 15-gadget addition broadens build choices. Expanded COM-racer availability after Grand Prix completion also matters for solo players who want more opponents without entering an online lobby.
For multiplayer groups, the practical limits are up to 12 online players and one to four local players. Cross-play allows supported-platform communities to meet online, but local player capacity and online account requirements remain platform-specific. The announced material does not provide a universal rule that every mode supports every player count, so check the mode’s in-game description.
Common points of confusion
“Is a crossover course just a reskinned track?”
No. Travel Rings move the race into a transformed CrossWorld on lap two, and the return lap changes shortcuts, obstacles, Rings and items. The course’s strategic identity therefore includes all three lap states.
“Does buying one pack unlock the whole pass?”
No. Individual packs and the full Season Pass are distinct purchases, and neither Season Pass 1 nor Season Pass 2 automatically includes the other.
“Are the free-update characters part of Season Pass 2?”
No. Aigis, the McLaren Racing car and Bayonetta were presented as free-update additions alongside the Season 2 announcement, not as the paid crossover packs themselves.
“Can I rely on a listed month?”
Only as the currently announced window. SEGA says dates and content can change, so confirm the latest official notice before buying for a particular pack.
