There is no general U.S. internet discount simply for being a senior. Older adults may qualify for Lifeline or a provider’s low-cost internet plan based on income, public assistance, or—in limited state-specific cases—age-related criteria. The right option depends on the home address and eligibility, so check both before applying. The federal Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) ended on June 1, 2024, and is no longer accepting enrollments.
Do seniors get a discount on internet?
Not automatically based on age in the federal and provider programs covered here. Most eligibility rules focus on household income or participation in qualifying assistance programs. State-specific rules can differ: Xfinity and AT&T identify a New York pathway involving a senior citizen rent increase exemption, but that does not create a nationwide age-only discount. Xfinity Internet Essentials and AT&T Access from AT&T provide details of their respective eligibility rules.

Spectrum says adults 65 or older who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) may qualify for Internet Assist. The qualification is tied to SSI and the program’s other conditions, not age alone. See Spectrum Internet Assist for current terms.

- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset

| Program | What the provider says | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Xfinity Internet Essentials | Plans start at $14.95 per month for qualifying customers, according to Xfinity’s program page. | Service-area availability, qualifying assistance program or income criteria, and additional restrictions. Xfinity lists no Xfinity internet service in the previous 90 days and no recent outstanding Comcast debt among its conditions. Confirm current price and speed during application. |
| Spectrum Internet Assist | Spectrum advertises 50 Mbps at $25 per month for qualifying households. It says some participants in the National School Lunch Program, Community Eligibility Provision, or SSI may qualify for $15 per month. | Eligibility, address availability, and current price and speed. The $15 offer is not a general senior discount; Spectrum identifies adults 65 or older receiving SSI as potentially eligible. |
| AT&T Access from AT&T | A low-cost home internet option for eligible households where AT&T service is available. Eligibility can depend on income or specified assistance programs. | Use the address checker and application for the offer available at your home. The reviewed program information does not establish one nationwide price. |
Prices and terms on provider pages can change, so treat the figures above as snapshots of the cited pages, not guaranteed offers. Check the provider’s application for the terms currently available at your address.
Is the Affordable Connectivity Program still available?
No. The FCC says the ACP ended on June 1, 2024, and enrollment is closed. Pages claiming to enroll people in ACP or requesting personal information for ACP after it ended may be stale or misleading; the FCC advises consumers to report them. See the FCC’s ACP consumer advisory. The advisory reports that the program served more than 23 million low-income households during its two-year operation; that is a historical figure, not current enrollment.

Can Lifeline lower an internet bill?
Possibly. The FCC says Lifeline provides a discount on qualifying monthly telephone service, broadband service, or bundled voice-broadband packages purchased from participating providers. Provider participation is not universal. Check eligibility and participating providers through the official Lifeline Support website, then confirm the service and terms with the provider.

How to compare the real cost
A low advertised monthly price is only useful if the household qualifies and the service works at its address. Compare the actual offer from each provider against these details:
- Eligibility: Which income limits, assistance programs, or state-specific criteria apply?
- Availability: Is the plan offered at the exact address, and what connection technology is available?
- Ongoing price: What will the bill be after any promotional period?
- Setup and equipment: Are installation, modem, or Wi-Fi gateway charges included?
- Service terms: What speed, data limits, and contract conditions apply?
There is no single nationwide winner in the program information cited here: eligibility and offers vary by provider and location. Compare the terms available to the household rather than choosing by the program name or a headline price.
