What the 2025 Rivian HVDB recall repairs
U.S. NHTSA recall 25V537, identified by Rivian as campaign FSAM-1723, concerns a ground connection inside the high-voltage distribution box (HVDB). An improperly grounded connection may cause a loss of drive power, which could increase crash risk. Rivian reported that it was not aware of related accidents or injuries when it submitted the recall filing; that statement is limited to the time of the filing. NHTSA recall 25V537 filing.

The campaign covers a reported 23 potentially affected 2025 R1T and R1S vehicles. Rivian identified the population from manufacturing records; the reported suspect production period ran from September 25, 2024, through February 19, 2025. NHTSA’s filing lists an estimated 25% of the population as potentially having the defect. That is an estimate, not a measured failure rate or confirmation that a particular vehicle is defective.

Rivian’s remedy is to inspect the HVDB ground-strap joint and repair it, or replace the high-voltage battery pack if necessary. The repair is free of charge under the filed remedy. A pack replacement is therefore one possible outcome, not the default repair for every vehicle in the recall.

How the 2024 suspect-cell campaign differs
Rivian’s March 14, 2024 customer-satisfaction campaign, RCA-30-24-001-1, addressed a different issue: potentially suspect battery cells in some 2023–2024 R1T and R1S vehicles built approximately from December 2022 through September 2023. The bulletin directs Rivian to use vehicle-specific open-containment information to determine applicability; those model years and build dates alone do not confirm coverage. A cell short could trigger a fault message on the vehicle display and in the app, followed by a reduced-performance safe state. For vehicles covered by that campaign, the prescribed repair is high-voltage battery-pack replacement at a service center. This customer-satisfaction campaign is distinct from the 2025 safety recall and should not be treated as the repair policy for all Rivian battery concerns.

How to check coverage and arrange service
- Check the VIN. Ask Rivian to verify whether your vehicle is covered by the specific recall or campaign and whether the campaign remains open. A model year, build-date range, or general description is not a substitute for a VIN check.
- Request service through Rivian. Rivian says owners can request service through the app or contact Service Support. Follow any vehicle warning or direct instruction from Rivian. For the 2024 suspect-cell campaign, its bulletin says a related app or display fault message should prompt service as soon as possible; that instruction should not be assumed to apply to every vehicle in the separate 2025 recall. - Confirm the appointment details. Ask whether Rivian expects the vehicle to go to a service center or whether another arrangement is suitable, and what transportation options may be available. Rivian describes mobile service for many needs but says work is limited to what is safe in that setting; the recall sources do not promise mobile repair for the 2025 campaign. - Let the technician determine the remedy. For the 2025 recall, the inspection determines whether the HVDB ground-strap joint is repaired or the pack is replaced. For an applicable 2024 campaign vehicle, the bulletin calls for pack replacement at a service center.
Timing, transportation, and costs
The 2025 recall remedy is free of charge. The official campaign materials do not provide a general repair-time estimate, parts-wait estimate, loaner commitment, or completion rate for an individual owner. Appointment timing and transportation arrangements therefore need to be confirmed directly with Rivian for the vehicle and location concerned.
These remedies involve manufacturer service on high-voltage components. The campaign sources do not establish that owners need to buy tools or parts, and they do not provide a basis for attempting the recall repair independently.
