Update a delivery-platform account to match your restaurant’s actual GST registration details—but do not use an account setting to choose or change a tax rate. In its 1 April 2025 Rajya Sabha answer, India’s Ministry of Finance said restaurant services outside specified premises attract 5% GST without input tax credit whether sold directly or through an electronic commerce operator (ECO) such as Swiggy or Zomato. The same answer put other app services, such as platform services, at 18%. Those are different supplies, and the statement does not establish a universal rate for every restaurant, premises type, or bill component.
The exact current button-by-button process for changing GST details in either restaurant-partner account is not established by the official public pages described here. Use the authenticated partner account or the platform’s current official partner-support route, verify your details against your GST registration record, and save confirmation of any change. This guide is for restaurants in India.

First separate your GST registration details from the tax treatment
A partner-account profile records information about your business; it does not determine the correct legal classification of every sale or service on an order. Keep the profile consistent with the restaurant’s current GST registration particulars, but treat rate selection and reporting as a separate compliance question. If your registration status, premises classification, or reporting treatment is uncertain, confirm it against applicable current notifications or with a qualified GST professional before changing tax treatment.

In a written Rajya Sabha answer dated 1 April 2025, Pankaj Chaudhary, Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance, stated that restaurant services other than those at specified premises are leviable at 5% GST without input tax credit, whether supplied directly by restaurants or through ECOs such as Swiggy and Zomato. The qualification about specified premises matters: this statement should not be generalized to every premises classification.

The same answer stated that other services provided by food-delivery apps, such as platform services, are taxed at 18%. It also reported that the GST Council had recommended further examination of the rate applicable to delivery of food in relation to app orders. The answer therefore provides a dated statement about restaurant service and platform services; it is not a complete guide to every component shown on a customer invoice.
Restaurant service, platform service, and local delivery are not interchangeable
| Category | What the cited government material says | How to use that information |
|---|---|---|
| Restaurant service outside specified premises | The Ministry’s 1 April 2025 answer states 5% GST without input tax credit, whether the restaurant sells directly or through an ECO. | Apply this statement only within its stated scope; do not assume it resolves the classification of every restaurant or premises. |
| Other food-delivery-app services, including platform services | The same Ministry answer states 18%. | Do not treat a platform service as though it were automatically the restaurant’s food supply. |
| Local delivery service | A Press Information Bureau government FAQ states 18% for local delivery services and says liability depends on the supplier’s registration and whether the service is supplied through an operator. | Do not collapse local delivery into restaurant service. The FAQ’s summary does not establish the answer for every individual restaurant’s arrangement. |
The government material does not provide a comprehensive bill-component guide for each platform. A customer-facing amount, platform charge, or delivery line should not be used on its own to infer the tax setting your restaurant must use. If a statement or invoice separates charges, determine what each charge represents before deciding how it should be recorded or reported.

Before making an account change, verify what actually needs correcting
Start with the restaurant’s own current registration record rather than copying a detail from another outlet or a platform statement. An incorrect GSTIN, a changed registration status, and a question about the applicable rate are different problems; changing one profile field will not necessarily solve the others.
- Check the GSTIN and the registered business particulars against the restaurant’s current GST registration record.
- Confirm which legal entity and outlet the partner account represents, especially if the business operates more than one restaurant or account.
- Identify whether the issue is a profile detail, a registration-status mismatch, a premises-classification question, or a disputed tax amount on an order or statement.
- Keep a record of the discrepancy, including the relevant account, statement, or order reference, so you can explain the issue accurately through the platform’s authenticated support route.
If your GST registration particulars have changed, rely on the authoritative registration record and your adviser’s guidance about any required compliance steps. Do not assume that editing a delivery-platform profile updates a government registration, amends a return, or changes the tax treatment of earlier transactions.

How to request a GST-details update safely
The following is a cautious operational workflow, not a verified Swiggy or Zomato interface guide. Public information described by the official sources confirms Swiggy’s Partner App as an official entry point, but that page does not expose a readable GST-editing workflow. The official public pages reviewed do not establish a current menu name, document list, verification timeline, or specific Zomato support path. Platform interfaces and support procedures can change, so use the route available in your authenticated partner account rather than relying on guessed labels or instructions for an older version.
- Assemble the correct details. Have the restaurant’s current GST registration particulars available and identify precisely what is wrong or has changed. Do not substitute a different business’s information or guess at a tax classification.
- Sign in through the platform’s official partner channel. Open the current authenticated restaurant-partner account or the platform’s official partner-support channel. Avoid sending sensitive business details through an unverified link, personal message, or third-party contact.
- Use the current account or support route for tax details. If the account provides a suitable way to edit those particulars, follow the live instructions shown there. If the option is absent or the request concerns registration status or classification rather than a basic profile correction, ask official partner support how to submit the change. This advice does not imply that either platform uses a particular menu name or accepts a particular document.
- Submit only what the authenticated flow requests. Check every field against the restaurant’s own registration record before submitting. The available public evidence does not establish which documents, if any, either platform requires for a particular update.
- Keep evidence of the request and its outcome. Save the support reference, confirmation, or other acknowledgement the platform provides, along with the date and the details you asked it to change. This is prudent recordkeeping, not a published platform-specific requirement.
- Check subsequent records. Review the next relevant platform statement or transaction records to see whether the business particulars display as expected. If the discrepancy persists, contact official partner support again and include the earlier reference rather than silently changing other tax fields.
Choose the next step by the kind of mismatch
The GSTIN or business particulars are wrong
Compare the account with the restaurant’s current registration record. Request correction through the current authenticated partner-account or support route, and retain the platform’s response. If the underlying government registration record itself appears wrong or out of date, resolve that with the appropriate tax process or a qualified adviser; a platform edit alone does not correct it.

The account says the restaurant is registered or unregistered incorrectly
Do not treat a status toggle as a substitute for confirming the business’s actual registration position. Check the current record and seek professional advice if the business’s status or obligations are unclear. Ask the platform how it wants the account information corrected, but do not infer the legal answer from the option that happens to appear in an app.

The platform statement or customer bill shows an unexpected charge
Separate the restaurant food supply from platform services and local-delivery services before investigating. Record the affected order or statement line and ask the platform to explain the charge through its official partner channel. The Ministry’s rate statements and the PIB FAQ do not, by themselves, explain every platform invoice layout or settle how every individual transaction should be reported.

You are unsure which premises classification applies
The Ministry’s 5% statement expressly excludes restaurant services at specified premises. If the restaurant may fall within that qualification, do not select a rate based solely on the general statement, another restaurant’s profile, or the way an order appears in the app. Confirm the premises classification and applicable treatment using current official tax material or professional advice.
Why changing a platform profile is not a tax-rate decision
A profile correction is an operational step: it helps the platform hold the restaurant’s intended business details. Tax classification is a compliance determination. The Ministry’s answer distinguishes restaurant service from other app services, while the separate PIB FAQ discusses local delivery service; those distinctions are a reason not to treat every figure on an order as one undifferentiated “GST setting.”
The GST Council agenda note provides historical compliance context: it described food aggregators such as Swiggy and Zomato as registered under Section 52 as tax collectors at source and discussed reconciliation and reporting concerns. That background is not a current guide to editing a restaurant account, and it should not be used to infer a button, a document requirement, or the restaurant’s present tax treatment.

Do not change a rate just to make it match a platform fee, a customer-facing total, or another restaurant’s account. Where classification or return reporting remains unclear, verify the current rule for your circumstances with official GST material or a qualified GST professional before making a tax decision.
