Rackwise is presented as a Eurorack row-planning agent that answers a practical question: “Does this row have enough space and power?” Its defining idea is to keep the arithmetic in a local TypeScript engine, retrieve hardware evidence separately, and constrain the AI to explain the result without changing calculations or treating unsupported details as verified.
What Rackwise is designed to check
According to creator Kavin HBN’s project account, a user can assemble a row, choose a power reserve, and check whether the selected modules fit and stay within the planned power budget. The described checks cover available HP, physical module depth, and consumption on the +12V, -12V, and +5V rails. Rackwise also checks whether retrieved sources cover the exact selected modules and whether source values agree with the planning catalog.

The project account describes three distinct roles: a TypeScript engine calculates fit and power locally; Sanity provides source-backed hardware context; and an AI layer explains the outcome within constraints. The intended boundary matters: the AI may explain a result, but it should not silently revise the arithmetic or present a claim without supporting evidence as verified.

How calculation and evidence are kept separate
Local planning values
The planner calculates the row’s dimensions and power requirements from its catalog values. The external knowledge base is not described as the source of the arithmetic; it supplies evidence that can be compared with those values.

Claims tied to sources
Rackwise is described as converting retrieved specifications into bounded claims. Each claim records the hardware identity, property, value and unit, the Knowledge Base path, and the original source when available. Width, depth, and each power rail are checked separately, rather than treating a general product match as proof of every specification.
Explanation under constraints
After the system has calculated the row and assessed the evidence, the AI is intended to explain the result without overriding either. This is a design description from the creator, not independent confirmation of the current implementation.

Why exact module variants matter
A source for one model cannot automatically validate another. The creator uses Expert Sleepers Disting EX and Disting NT to illustrate the rule: Rackwise is said not to use NT measurements to verify an EX. If a matching source is unavailable, that selected variant remains unverified.

The project account also describes separating apparently conflicting recording-duration claims for Make Noise Morphagene and Phonogene by product and operating mode. These examples show the intended evidence discipline; they do not independently establish that the implementation handles every variant or conflict correctly.

What happens when evidence is missing or conflicts
- Missing external service: The creator says local rack calculations can continue if an external service is unavailable. The result is then labeled “catalog-only,” rather than presented as fully source-verified.
- Conflicting values: When a source-backed claim disagrees with a planning value, the described behavior is to request review rather than silently average the numbers or choose one.
- Visible boundaries: Planner, Evidence, and Trace views are said to expose the calculation, supporting material, and processing trail.
The described request path validates the request, calculates fit and power locally, reads the Sanity Knowledge Base through MCP, routes to relevant entries, retrieves material, extracts claims, rejects unsupported sources and wrong variants, compares the claims with the catalog, and generates a constrained explanation.
Using the demo, as described by its creator
Kavin HBN’s instructions are to open the Playground, add or remove modules, choose a power reserve, ask whether the row has enough space and power, and inspect the Evidence and Trace views. The creator says no account is required. These are reported instructions, not confirmation that the linked app currently works as Rackwise.

The project account reports 33 tests covering the planner, MCP responses, claim extraction, source validation, module routing, coverage, and variant separation. That is an author-reported test count; it does not establish test results independently, and the test suite was not independently inspected.

There is also a current verification caveat: when the demo link was opened for this article, it resolved to an unrelated EuroStack site, so the linked app’s identity, availability, and Rackwise behavior could not be confirmed. The GitHub link did not provide usable repository content. Rackwise’s features and safeguards should therefore be understood as the creator’s description of the project, not as independently verified behavior of a working current release.
Why the approach is relevant to rack planning
Eurorack planning combines constraints that are easy to conflate: a row may fit by width but exceed a case’s depth allowance, or it may fit physically while drawing more current than a power supply can provide on one rail. Separating local calculations from source checks offers a way to show both the planning answer and how well the selected hardware values are evidenced. The design is most meaningful when it preserves uncertainty—such as an unverified variant or catalog-only result—instead of turning incomplete evidence into confidence.
