What the project’s technical example shows
The post describes a minimal Python Flask core paired with local inference endpoints. Its illustrative /chat route reads a message from a JSON request, passes it to a function named process_thought_locally, and returns a response. That gives a high-level picture of the intended flow: a chat request reaches the Flask application, which delegates processing to local inference rather than showing a call to a cloud LLM.

What “completely private” does—and does not—establish
Nema describes PocketSage as local-first and says it is designed to keep thoughts on-device and function offline. But the post does not provide a network capture, complete application data-flow account, security review, or independent privacy audit. A local inference endpoint in an example does not by itself establish that every part of an application—including setup, updates, diagnostics, or optional features—avoids external connections. Treat the privacy language as the project’s stated intent, not a verified guarantee or a legal or compliance conclusion.
The post also supplies no performance benchmark, model size, or storage and memory requirements. Without the model and runtime details, a reader cannot determine what hardware is needed or reproduce the claimed experience from the article alone.

Do not confuse it with another PocketSage
A separate GitHub project also called PocketSage is an Android app for asking questions about PDFs using retrieval-augmented generation. Its repository discusses on-device document processing and different implementation choices, but the available information does not establish that it is Nema’s Flask project. Those Android details—including its device guidance—should not be used to describe the PocketSage in this article.
What a reader can take away
PocketSage is best understood as a short build story about matching a friend’s privacy concerns with a local-first assistant concept. Its clearest technical detail is a Flask /chat route that delegates to local inference. The post communicates the intended direction, but leaves the implementation specifics and evidence needed to assess actual privacy unresolved.
