How Much Will I Get in Oregon Unemployment Benefits in 2026?

For a new Oregon Unemployment Insurance claim filed on or after June 28, 2026, Oregon generally calculates your weekly benefit amount (WBA) as 1.25% of your total gross earnings during the base year. The 2026 statutory range is $211 to $902 per week. Your actual figure comes from wage records verified by the Oregon Employment Department (OED), not from an estimate based only on your most recent paycheck.

Claims filed before June 28, 2026 keep the earlier statutory limits for the duration of that claim. After you apply, OED sends a Wage and Potential Benefit Report showing the official weekly amount, maximum available amount, benefit-year dates, and the wages used in the calculation.

How Oregon calculates the weekly benefit amount

Oregon’s formula is:

Weekly benefit amount = 1.25% × total gross earnings in the base year

“Gross earnings” means wages before taxes and other deductions. OED totals covered wages in the applicable base-year quarters, multiplies that total by 0.0125, and then applies the statutory minimum and maximum.

For a new claim filed Statutory weekly floor Statutory weekly ceiling
On or after June 28, 2026 $211 $902
Before June 28, 2026 Earlier limit applies Earlier limit applies

The new limits are tied to Oregon’s 2025 state average weekly wage of $1,410.13. State law sets the UI minimum at 15% of that wage and the maximum at 64%, with both results rounded down: $211.51 becomes $211, and $902.48 becomes $902. The $1,410.13 wage figure and the resulting limits are the values reported by the Oregon Employment Department for 2026.

The filing date matters for the limits, while the wage quarters used for the calculation depend on the week in which the initial claim begins.

Examples of the formula

Base-year gross wages 1.25% calculation Result after 2026 limits
$10,000 $125 $211 minimum
$20,000 $250 $250
$41,600 $520 $520
$80,000 $1,000 $902 maximum

The $41,600 example represents a worker earning $20 per hour for 40 hours each week for 52 weeks. One and a quarter percent of those annual gross wages is $520, which falls between the statutory floor and ceiling.

A low wage total does not produce a benefit below $211 on a new post-June 28, 2026 claim, provided the person otherwise qualifies. A high wage total does not produce more than $902 per week under those limits.

Which wages are in your base year

Oregon uses the first four of the five most recently completed calendar quarters before the week you file your initial claim. This method generally excludes the newest completed quarter, so wages from a very recent job may not appear in the first calculation.

For claims beginning in 2026, OED identifies these base-year windows:

Initial claim filed during Base-year period
January through March 2026 October 1, 2024 through September 30, 2025
April through June 2026 January 1 through December 31, 2025
July through September 2026 April 1, 2025 through March 31, 2026
October through December 2026 July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026

OED checks employer-reported wage records for those dates. If an employer’s report is missing or incorrect, the amount on your first report may change after OED reviews additional documentation.

Why a recent raise or job may not change the first amount

Because the base year omits the newest completed quarter, a recently started job, raise, bonus, or overtime period may fall outside the initial calculation. Keep pay stubs and employer information available in case OED asks you to verify wages or issues a later redetermination.

Eligibility requirements that affect whether you can collect

The formula only matters after you establish a valid claim. OED generally requires at least 500 hours of covered work or at least $1,000 in covered earnings during the base year. Covered employment and wages must be reported under Oregon’s unemployment program.

Every week you request payment has separate continuing requirements:

  • You must be able to work.
  • You must be available for work.
  • You must actively seek work as required by OED.
  • Your separation from work and other facts must satisfy OED’s eligibility rules.

Meeting the wage or hours threshold does not guarantee payment for every week. OED can investigate the reason you are unemployed, a refusal of work, availability issues, work-search activity, or other facts before paying benefits.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What the waiting week does to your first payment

Oregon requires one waiting week for each claim. You must claim that week and meet the eligibility conditions, but it is unpaid. OED’s guidance states that claiming the week and receiving credit for it are required even though no money is issued for it.

Continue filing weekly claims during the waiting week and afterward. Skipping the certification can interrupt the claim, delay payment, or require additional contact with OED.

How long benefits can last

A benefit year lasts 52 weeks. Regular benefits can total up to 26 times your weekly benefit amount, subject to the available balance on your claim and your continuing eligibility.

Illustrative WBA 26-times calculation What it means
$211 $5,486 Illustrative maximum regular-benefit balance if all 26 times were available
$520 $13,520 Illustrative maximum regular-benefit balance
$902 $23,452 Illustrative maximum regular-benefit balance

These are multiplication examples, not a promise that every claimant will receive 26 payable weeks. A claim can end earlier because the balance is exhausted, a week is disqualified, work is resumed, or another eligibility issue applies.

How part-time earnings change your payment

Report all earnings for the week in which you performed the work, even if your employer pays you later. OED says you may earn up to the greater of one-third of your WBA or 10 times Oregon’s highest minimum wage before benefits are reduced dollar for dollar.

To receive benefits while working, you generally must work less than full time and earn less than your WBA. The exact calculation uses the earnings you report for that week and the disregard threshold that applies under OED’s rule.

Illustrative part-time calculation

Suppose your WBA is $520. One-third is $173.33. If that amount is greater than 10 times the applicable highest Oregon minimum wage, earnings up to $173.33 would be within the stated disregard. Earnings above the applicable threshold reduce the weekly benefit dollar for dollar. For example, if the applicable threshold were $173.33 and you reported $200, the amount above the threshold would be $26.67, so the calculated payment would be reduced by $26.67, subject to OED’s final determination.

Do not use that example as your personal threshold: Oregon’s highest minimum wage can change, and OED applies the value in effect for the relevant claim week. Report gross earnings accurately and retain your pay records.

How to find your official Oregon benefit amount

The Wage and Potential Benefit Report is the claimant-specific document to use when deciding how much you will receive. OED says most initial claims take about three weeks to review.

How to compare two possible claim outcomes

Two people with the same recent salary can receive different results because their claim weeks and base-year histories differ. Compare these items in order:

  • Base-year gross earnings: the total covered wages in the first four of the five completed quarters.
  • Initial claim date: claims on or after June 28, 2026 use the $211-to-$902 limits; older claims retain the earlier limits.
  • Raw 1.25% result: determine whether the calculation is below the floor, inside the range, or above the ceiling.
  • Eligibility record: confirm the 500-hour or $1,000 covered-wage requirement and weekly availability, ability, and work-search conditions.
  • Claim-week earnings: part-time wages can reduce the payment even when the underlying WBA is unchanged.
Scenario What to inspect Likely effect
Lower base-year wages, claim after June 28, 2026 Whether 1.25% is below $211 WBA is subject to the $211 floor if the claim is valid
Middle-income wage history, claim after June 28, 2026 Whether 1.25% falls between $211 and $902 WBA equals the calculated percentage
High base-year wages, claim after June 28, 2026 Whether 1.25% exceeds $902 WBA is capped at $902
Claim filed before June 28, 2026 The limits printed on that claim’s determination Earlier statutory floor and ceiling continue for that claim
Part-time work during a claimed week Gross weekly earnings and the disregard threshold Payment may be reduced dollar for dollar above the threshold

Common problems and what to check

The amount on the report is lower than expected

First verify that you used the correct base-year quarters rather than your last 12 months of wages. Then check whether a recent employer falls outside the first four completed quarters, whether some wages were not covered, and whether OED has all employer reports. The 1.25% calculation also cannot exceed the statutory ceiling or fall below the statutory floor for a post-June 28, 2026 claim.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Your employer or wages are missing

Compare the report with pay stubs, W-2 forms, and employer names for every base-year quarter. Follow OED’s instructions for submitting corrections or proof. Keep copies of anything you send and watch for a revised determination.

You worked during a week for which you claimed benefits

Report the work and gross earnings for that week. Do not wait for payday and do not report only your take-home pay. OED applies its part-time rule to the reported week, and failing to report work can create an overpayment or eligibility issue.

You have not been paid after filing

Confirm that you filed the weekly claim, including the waiting week, and that no questionnaire or fact-finding request is outstanding. Initial claims commonly take about three weeks to review. Check the Wage and Potential Benefit Report for the benefit-year dates, wage record, and any redetermination notice.

What to have ready before you file

  • Employer names and addresses for the base-year period.
  • Dates worked and gross wages by employer.
  • Recent pay stubs and tax forms to compare with OED’s wage record.
  • The date and reason your work ended or your hours were reduced.
  • A reliable way to complete weekly certifications and record job-search activity.
  • Gross earnings for any work performed during each claimed week.

Accurate information at filing makes it easier to resolve a wage discrepancy and prevents a mistaken payment calculation.

The practical answer for your claim

If your new claim begins on or after June 28, 2026, multiply your total covered gross wages in the applicable base year by 1.25%, then compare the result with $211 and $902. Confirm that you meet the hours-or-earnings threshold and the weekly eligibility rules. Claim the unpaid waiting week, report any part-time earnings, and use the Wage and Potential Benefit Report as the final claimant-specific figure.
