You can check and prepare your console now, but verify its listing again when preloading begins.
Is GTA 6’s install size confirmed?
No. Rockstar’s platform and edition support page does not state an install size. A report updated October 2, 2026 also found no size listed on the PlayStation or Xbox storefronts at that time (MapHeist). That is a dated storefront check, not confirmation of what the eventual download will require. Check the listing again as preload approaches; do not plan around an unofficial number as though it were a requirement.

When and where can you play it?
Rockstar lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as platforms. Take-Two Interactive announced November 19, 2026 as the release date, with digital preloading beginning November 12 (Take-Two Interactive). Release and preload details can change, so check the current platform listing for updates.

The boxed edition is not a disc installation: Rockstar says the box contains a download code and no disc. Physical buyers will still need to download the game and have sufficient console storage (Rockstar Games Support).

How to make room on PS5
Before deleting anything, check how much console storage is available. Sony’s storage guidance explains how to review and manage PS5 storage (PlayStation: Manage PS5 console storage space).
- Open Settings > Storage to see available space.
- Delete games or applications you no longer need. Sony says purchases can be downloaded again from your game library. If a game offers Customize, you may be able to remove unused add-ons or other portions while keeping the rest.
- Move PS5 games you are not currently playing to USB extended storage. They can be kept there, but cannot be played directly from the USB drive; move them back to PS5 console storage or M.2 SSD storage to play (PlayStation: USB extended storage on PS5).
Should you add storage to a PS5?
It depends on whether you want to archive games or play them from the added storage. USB extended storage is useful for games you are not playing now. For extra storage that can run PS5 games, Sony supports a compatible internal M.2 NVMe SSD; Sony states that “PS5 games are playable on M.2 SSD storage” (PlayStation: Add an M.2 SSD to a PS5).

M.2 requirements to check
- Interface: PCIe Gen4x4 M.2 NVMe.
- Capacity: 250 GB to 8 TB.
- Speed: Sony recommends sequential read speeds of 5,500 MB/s or faster.
- Cooling and fit: The drive needs effective heat dissipation. Check Sony’s required drive and heatsink dimensions before buying or installing one.

What about Xbox Series X|S?
Xbox Series X|S is a confirmed launch platform, but the sources cited here do not establish GTA 6’s Xbox storage requirement or provide Xbox storage-management instructions. Check the current Xbox game listing for the eventual size and consult Xbox’s own system guidance for storage options rather than applying PS5 USB or M.2 instructions to an Xbox console.
